Chapter 721: Want To Get An Android?
“I will admit… Even though this was what I hoped for, I didn’t think that you would be able to do it so perfectly…” The instructor admitted after we reported the mission success to him while on our way back.
Right now I was seated inside the bridge of our newly acquired ship on the way back to the station with the Instructor’s Exo-Knights on board.
I raised an eyebrow, “What? Were you expecting us to fail or something?”
“I mean… I was expecting the Exo-Knights you’re piloting to be heavily damaged or something. But you came back here with barely a scratch on them.”
“Were you hoping to collect compensation for repairs for the Exo-Knights if they turned up damaged?”
“To be honest, a little.”
At least he’s honest about it I guess.
Well, we are using his equipment so I guess it was reasonable to be expected to pay for repairs if we damage it anyway.
He cleared his throat to change the topic, “Ahem… Anyway, I’ve already transferred the money to you. It should be coming in right now.”
I brought up my Codex to check and indeed, the agreed Credits were reflected on my Codex.
I nodded, “Yeah, I have received it. But… I have one request that I’m not sure if you would be able to help with.”
“Go on?”
“I see you have quite a lot of androids so I’m wondering if you could help me get one as well? Since we’ve just captured their ship and we’re thinking of adding it to my fleet so we might need some additional hands to manage it.”
There was a pause before the instructor spoke again, “Are you asking if I’m willing to sell one of my androids to you?”
“Well, if you’re offering, I wouldn’t say no.”
He shook his head, “Miss Tera. As much as I would like to help you with that, I’m afraid that my androids have to stay with me as they are also part of my security. So I’m afraid that I cannot offer you one from my retinue. However… I am able to give you a referral to a merchant that sells them if you would prefer? I’m quite a big customer, as you can clearly see, so they will treat you well.”
“That will work too. Where is it though? Because we intend to get to the Exo-Knight exhibition after this.”
“Of course you are. And so am I as well. You don’t think I would be missing out on the unveiling of the newest Exo-Knights do you? But if you want to make a pitstop to purchase an android, you might not have enough time to get there if you don’t leave within the next few days.”
I frowned, “It’s that far?”
He nodded, “It is a few days away from the exhibition location itself and I doubt you would want it to be delivered directly to you.”
I blinked at him, “Why would I not want it to be delivered directly to me?”
“Right, I forget that this is your first time purchasing an android. Usually the process is that you would place an order using their GalaNet site and give them the specifications you require. They would then start building the android and then send it to one of their showrooms where you can pick them up. But before you take it, you get to test it out first to make sure that it’s made completely to your specifications because you can’t return them once you take them. And ordering them to be delivered means you have to pay the delivery and return fee if you find something wrong with them.”
“How much is the fee?”
“Depends on the distance that they have to travel but I say the average would be around a thousand Credits each way.”
That’s not too bad? The way he said it I was expecting like several tens of thousands of Credits just for a delivery which would have been quite ridiculous.
He raised a finger, “As a veteran, I would really recommend to pick them up on site because they can do on site tuning if there’s anything wrong with it and you usually can get a bunch of freebies to go along with the purchase since their stuff is already there.”
You know… This guy doesn’t act like he literally earns several hundreds of millions of Credits each time he hosts a lesson with how he’s trying to scrimp and save…
At least he’s giving good suggestions and helping us not waste our money.
But I guess the most optimal choice for us would be…
“I suppose in that case, I should try and send my specifications to them today and be prepared to head out tomorrow?” I asked.
He seemed to consider it for a moment, “You should take your time with it, actually. There’s a lot of settings so you want to make sure that your settings are perfect. One of these androids is going to cost you anywhere from a few tens of thousands Credits to over a million Credits, depending on your specifications.”
I almost blurted out that we were just looking for some generic android and it doesn’t even matter what specifications it has until I managed to stop myself.
It would be pretty weird for someone to think that way when making a big purchase such as this.
It’s like someone ordering a custom ship and then not even bothering to customise it and just leave the place after asking about it.
Yeah… Those types of people either have too much money to waste or they are just dumb… Or they are pirates looking out for a ship that they can use and ditch for some illegal stuff.
So I’m just going to pretend like I’m a serious buyer.
Anyway, I’m sure if I get a good high quality android for Renata to consume, her transformation would be better than just using a run of the mill model as her reference.
“I’ll consider it seriously,” I assured him.
“Yes, it is quite an important decision after all. I’ll send you the contact of the representative and they will guide you through the order process in a bit. Anyway, thanks again for helping me take care of those business rivals of mine.”
Yeah sure… Business rivals he says… Whatever, I’m not paid to question him so I’ll just take the Credits and keep my mouth shut.
He ended the call and a few moments later, a message came from him with the contact with the name ‘SynLife Rep’.
If I remember correctly, SynLife was the name of the android manufacturing company and the specialise specifically in making androids and is also one of, if not the, biggest in the market for androids.
“Should I call them now?” I muttered aloud.
Only one other person was on the bridge with me right now so it was no surprise that she was the only one who responded, “Why not, Daddy?”
I turned to the orange haired Renata, “Well… Maybe Ries wants to have a look too?”
“Ehehehe~ I think she would sooner think about building her own android though. But there’s no harm in getting started first, right Daddy?”
I suppose she has a point. Let’s call the rep first.
I started the call and it rang a few times before the screen changed to show a flustered looking woman with messy hair like she had just been caught sleeping on the job.
“H… Hi!! This is SynLife Sales Rep Merissa! Umm… How can I help you?!” She squeaked.
I coughed, “Ahem… Sorry… I can call later if now is a bad time.”
“No! No! Not at all! I was… Ughh… There was just something unfort– Ahhh!! I mean… Nothing’s wrong! Ahem… Are you looking to purchase an android?”
“Err… Yeah. I was referred to you by my Exo-Knight instructor to get an android from you?”
“Oh!! Yes, yes! I know who you are talking about! Don’t worry! Any friend of his is a friend of ours! So you are looking for an android right? Do you already have a design in mind?”
“A design? Err–”
“She has to be cute!” Renata spoke up from the side.
“Oh yes, we can make the android cute, don’t worry!” The sales rep chirped, either not noticing or not caring that I was not the one who said that.
I cleared my throat, “Well… I’m more thinking about the practical stuff on what they need to do, you see… I’m a ship captain and I need some androids to be around to help me maintain the ship.”
“Ah! Then in that case, allow me to send you an app that will allow you to customise your own android! Once you are done, you can just submit it and I will receive it and we can confirm the details before we process your order, how does that sound?”
“Yeah… That would help.”
“Perfect! I will send you the application shortly! Thank you for choosing us!”
The call ended and I let out a breath.
Well… That was certainly something…
