Chapter 711: Piloting In Zero G
“Did you hack into the android…” I asked, narrowing my eyes at my chest.

“Ehehe~ I didn’t really do it on purpose, Daddy~ I just tried to hack the Exo-Knight to make sure it isn’t spying on you but since the android is connected, I also gained access to it~”

I have a feeling that the truth was that Renata was already trying to hack the Exo-Knight but found the android there and just decided to hack it anyway intentionally instead of it being an accident.

Well… I don’t have any proof of that so I decided not to call her out for it.

“Just make sure that you return things back to normal, ok?” I warned her.

The android made a cute pose, “Yes, Daddy~”

Yeah… Renata really is enjoying this huh…

“You know what the android is here to do, right?” I asked.

“Ehehe~ Don’t worry Daddy! I know their function after taking over them! I’ll make sure that you don’t crash into anyone or anything!”

That’s reassuring.

I looked around the controls and quickly made guesses as to how to start it up based on the first Exo-Knight that we had been made to pilot.

Flipping several of the switches, the screens around me popped up as the machine hummed to life.

Perfect~

One of the screens then changed to show the instructor and I thought it was him contacting me until he started to speak.

“Good work, pilot. Seems like you’ve managed to at least start it up. No need to respond, this is simply a recorded message that is set to play when you manage to start up the Exo-Knight. As mentioned, today would simply be for you to try out the real thing at your own time. So feel free to walk around and feel the weight of it as you move around. You can also fly out into space and practice shooting at the asteroids outside. Do note that the android accompanying you will shut off your weapon systems if it detects you pointing at something that isn’t an asteroid. Additionally, it will intervene and take over the controls if you were to attempt something that might endanger yourself or someone else.”

The screen then shut itself off after the message had been plated.

Huh… This guy is certainly quite thorough isn’t he?

Well… Guess since he already gave us his blessing, I guess I should test this Exo-Knight out~

It’s using the walking method to control the legs so this wasn’t a proble– Woahhh!

I tried to take a step forward but for some reason, when I tried to lift up the leg, the Exo-Knight ended up tilting forward and almost fell over.

But right as it almost tipped over, the Exo-Knight suddenly straightened itself and took the step properly without falling over.

Renata giggled, “Ehehe~ The simulator doesn’t really simulate the weight of the Exo-Knight Daddy. You need to take that into account when you are trying to move it~”

Right… I guess that did slip my mind.

I tried to move again, this time making sure to remember that there is weight on the Exo-Knight and to lean the Exo-Knight to shift its weight as it moved.

It took me a moment but I was soon moving it like how I did in the simulation. I just needed to get used to this.

Since I know how to walk now… I guess it’s time for the next logical step. Time to fly~

I made my way towards the door of the hangar that led out towards the void of space, the only thing stopping everything from being vented out was the atmospheric shield that was in place.

I guess… I’ll just jump out there then?

Looking back to check if anyone was stopping me and finding none, I guess I’m allowed to just fly out like that.

Leaping off the platform, I flew out past the atmospheric shield and entered into the zero gravity of space, my Exo-Knight continuing its path forward due to the momentum of the jump.

The booster on my back that would have only given me a temporary boost of speed turned into my only source of mobility here.

I tried to use it but it basically gave me a quick boost in specific directions instead of giving me a constant thrust. Which means I have to rely on momentum to move around.

“There’s a setting to change the booster, Daddy~” Renata spoke up through the android behind me.

Oh? Is that so?

I looked around the cockpit, trying to see if there was an obvious button for that.

Then I realised directly above me was a switch that was pointed toward two different settings. One was ‘Gravity Boosters’ and the other was ‘Zero Gravity Boosters’.

I’m guessing that was it and flipped the switch over to the ‘Zero Gravity Boosters’ setting.

When I tried to activate the boosters again, it still shot me towards a specific direction which confused me a little.

That’s when I tried to move my joysticks and I realised that I was slowly floating towards the direction that I was trying to move in as well.

Oh, this setting basically changes the movement controls to control the direction of the booster thrusters instead. But it still allowed me to make quick boosts using the thrusters as well. Guess they thought of everything.

Soon enough, more people were also jumping out of the station and floating out after me, most of them struggling and flailing around in their Exo-Knights as they tried to get used to piloting their machines in zero G.

As for my girls, all of them seemed to also be getting the hang of it even though it would be the first time piloting an actual Exo-Knight for most of them.

I tried some manoeuvres in space where I flipped, twisted and spun through the void, testing how the machine responded with each movement.

It definitely felt different from the simulator since I could feel the weight and hear the groan of the machine reacting to my commands around me.

Checking the armaments that were on board the Exo-Knight, I seem to be equipped with a similar autocannon and… Oh? What’s this?

I reached to the side of the Exo-Knight and pulled out what looked like a cylinder that was stuck to its waist.

Activating it, the cylinder popped open to transform itself into a pole before the top of the pole split open to form an energy axe head.

Oh damn, it’s a halberd!!

I was just feeling a little sad that I couldn’t use my halberd and here I am getting one to play with already!

I did a few thrusts with the weapon, testing how it works in space before proceeding to shadow spar with an imaginary enemy with the halberd.

It felt a little weird at first considering I still had a shield strapped to my other arm so my movements were a little limited.

Still, I was able to swing it how I wanted to and took advantage of the fact that I was in zero G to do flips, and spins that I would not be able to do if there was gravity pulling me down.

I decided to try it out on some asteroids that were floating nearby, activating my boosters to boost me towards a field of them.

I imagined them to be a field of enemies and let out a breath before I shot forward.

For the first rock, I stabbed the tip of the halberd into it and flung it to the side to smash it into another asteroid.

I then boosted myself to the side and smashed my shield into another asteroid, slamming it into a larger asteroid before I swung my halberd down, cleaving both of them in a single swing.

And unlike the simulator that did not allow me to do this, I reached the hand with the shield up to pull out the autocannon, wielding it at the same time as my halberd in my other hand.

I flipped myself upside down before stabbing my halberd into another big asteroid that had been behind me, keeping it in place as I fired my autocannon at the rock.

Kinetic rounds exploded on its surface as pieces of it blasted out into space from the projectiles chipping away at it, quickly reducing its size to half of its original size.

I spun again and flung the asteroid into another one, spinning one more round to bring my halberd back to slice through the rocks once again.

I continued to slash away at the rocks for a while with the halberd and only after I finished off my fiftieth ‘enemy’ did I finally stop myself, marvelling at the handiwork before me.

Yep… There’s nothing but pieces of rocks floating out into space.

This halberd is cool~ I want one for my own Exo-Knight in the future too~

I have to say, this Exo-Knight functions pretty well despite supposedly being a tank class.

Yep, I have no regrets coming to this class~
