Chapter 707: Getting Ready For Exo-Knight Shopping
You know, I’m already used to my girls overreacting when they eat my food… But when I ate the pizza I made, I can definitely say that their reactions were justified this time.
It’s so good!!
Even I just want to keep eating after every slice!
I had even specifically made the pizza bigger than normal so that everyone could have several slices but even with two of them, both of them disappeared very quickly.
It was to the point that the girls were all craving for more and were less than satisfied by how much they ate so… I had to satisfy them with some other food I had on hand.
…
Yes, I was talking about my honey.
Guess I know that I would need to make a lot more when we throw the bigger party after we all officially graduate from here.
Also… I need to make a honey glazed pizza specifically for my girls.
… Actually… Make that maybe two, no… Three honey glazed pizzas.
Putting that aside, I made the girls clean up the kitchen and dining area after our… Err… Session. I’m just hoping they don’t resort to licking my honey off the walls and furniture and actually clean it properly…
Deciding that it would be best that I wasn’t around to see that, I went across the corridor to chill in the recreation room.
And by chill, I meant checking my emails.
Oh, looks like the instructor already sent out the email.
Opening it, I found that it was a standard congratulatory message about successfully completing the course and graduating from the academy and receiving my license. It says that attached within the email was my official documentation that I was now a licensed Exo-Knight pilot and checking the attachments, there was indeed such a thing.
This place works fast huh? I like that.
Looking at the rest of the message, it seems like the standard copy and paste corporate email where they just put in buzz words to make it sound like they care about you but they actually don’t really care.
Well, I don’t expect him to personalise every single email that he sends to his students.
Oh wait… There’s an additional section at the bottom…
‘Congratulations, Miss Tera. There are admittedly very few who manage to qualify for the early graduation of my course and you are now one of them. Seeing that all of the current top scorers are members of your Mercenary company, which I believe is aptly named Teran Mercenary Company, is a fact that is not lost on me. I sincerely believe your group is destined to make a huge name for yourselves in the future and I wish you all the best. On a side note, there might be some jobs that I have that you might be interested in so let me know if you would like to hear me out. It is fine if you don’t want to but I thought to let you know about it at least. Once again, I wish you and your company all the best.’
Huh… That’s interesting…
I wouldn’t mind hearing him out I guess? Though I wonder if he sent the same thing to the other girls as well.
Also… I don’t think I told him but it seems like he identified me as the leader somehow… Oh wait, it’s probably the name… Yeah…
Well, I guess I’ll ask the other girls and see what they think.
“Should I eat him, Daddy?” Renata suddenly asked from my chest.
I looked down at the eldritch maid I was currently wearing as my clothes, “Eat who? The instructor? Why?”
“Eh? Isn’t he like trying to take advantage of you?”
“Huh? What made you think so?”
“The message. He obviously wants to have some kind of connection with you since he realised that Daddy is awesome! After Daddy gets known throughout the universe, he’s no doubt going to just advertise that Daddy was his student and use that to attract more people.”
I thought about it for a moment and shrugged, “Does it matter? That’s true isn’t it? We did get our licenses from him and I think his teaching method might be a little unorthodox but I can see the reasoning behind what he’s doing.”
There was a pause before Renata spoke again, “I’m comparing him to the curriculum that other Exo-Knight academies have and I would say that he’s doing very little teaching though. He’s basically throwing everyone out there to force them to learn by themselves.”
“Well… First of all, are you comparing him to the curriculum of the academies that are within the Outer Colonies?”
“Ah… I see where I have made the mistake Daddy.”
Yep, she probably compared him to the academies in the Inner Colonies. Sure, they might be more proper but they are more performative than they are practical I believe. Out here, people tend to focus more on practicality instead.
Speaking of which… Since I already have my license, I guess I should take a look at Exo-Knights that I’m interested in purchasing.
I did a search of the GalaNet for Exo-Knight shops and specified the range to be within the Outer Colonies as well, otherwise they would probably give me results that were in the Inner Colonies instead.
Let’s see… Hmm… There’s actually a few companies that are making Exo-Knights here apparently… No wait… They don’t make Exo-Knights… They are basically just redistributors.
Hmm… From what I can find… The manufacturing of Exo-Knight is illegal outside of the Inner Colonies. Anyone caught trying to build their own Exo-Knight outside of the Inner Colonies would be apprehended and punished.
So it’s impossible to make a custom Exo-Knight within the Outer Colonies?
No wait… Looking at all of these companies that were selling Exo-Knights, it looks like there are some differences between them.
I mean… Aside from the really big companies that just have branches in the Outer Colonies and were obviously licensed to manufacture Exo-Knights within the Inner Colonies of course.
It seems like while it’s illegal to manufacture Exo-Knights outside of the Inner Colonies, there’s no rule against modifying them.
So what these companies would do is to buy the mass produced variants and then modify them to be their own flagship Exo-Knights.
I guess it works as they then turn the general use type Exo-Knights into specialised variants for specific industries in the outer colonies while also keeping them fairly cheap as compared to the specialised ones that is produced by the manufacturers themselves.
They’re basically the poor man’s Exo-Knights to put it bluntly.
Looking at the most common models, I see the one that was most used to be this model called the Squire Exo-Knight which was made by a company known as Crusader Inc.
Searching up its history, it’s apparently one of the first companies that started making Exo-Knights while the UTG was still at war.
They started out pretty unpopular due to how expensive they were and how unwieldy they were but this company launched the Squire Class Exo-Knight which was designed for mass production in mind which basically accelerated its popularity.
Back then, all the other companies were trying to make the ‘best’ Exo-Knight they could, which was what made them so expensive.
But the Squire Exo-Knight was easy to mod, easy to replace and easy to use which really helped explode its popularity.
With all the new wealth they got, they basically bought over all its competition and then took their competitors’ failed ideas to reinvent them into their own series which they would then release to the market as different models.
Apparently that’s also where the term ‘Exo-Knight’ came from because the company really liked the knight motif and named all of their models after terms like that.
That’s interesting to learn.
Nowadays, a lot of resellers of Exo-Knights would purchase the Squire model Exo-Knight and then modify it to their own specialised versions to sell them as their own version.
Of course, it’s not just limited to that model as every single model that was manufactured could be modified.
I was thinking that surely this must violate some kind of copyright policy or something but apparently they see this as akin to tuning a car before selling it so there were no problems.
I guess it doesn’t hurt the profits of the original manufacturers anyway so they wouldn’t complain about something like that.
So if you see a lot of similar looking Exo-Knights, they’re most likely the same model but just modified by another company.
Still… That also means that there’s a lot of choices for the consumer but it was basically all the same models but with some modifications done to them. Some of them could have really big modifications like changing the legs for tank treads or even giving the Exo-Knight four arms.
But there are just some really minor changes like adjusting the position of the thrusters or removing the head for aesthetic purposes.
With so many choices… I don’t even know where to start… Maybe I’ll just ask Ries to recommend me some later…
