Chapter 1384: Forging The Beast Contract
When Orion returned to the island, he gathered the Spirit Beast women into one room and explained his desire to form a Spirit Beast contract with them.
“How long will this contract last?” asked Tsyliria.
She had ivory skin and ivory-white hair braided into coiled loops. She wore a long, flowing white robe, and her arms and back were covered in translucent, bone-like scales. Behind her hand floated a crescent-shaped black crown, hovering like a shadowy halo.
Tsyliria was the other Princess, aside from Vun-Shei, whom Orion had managed to secure. She wasn’t surprised by his words, as it was already expected that he would immediately sign a contract with them, either to keep track of them or to summon them into the Material Realm in case they tried to flee.
The only concern now was the duration of the beast contract before it expired.
Usually, when signing a beast contract for Spirit Beasts of their level, the typical duration ranged from 1,000 to 2,000 years, with exceptional cases reaching 3,000 to 4,000 years.
However, things were different with the mysterious man before her. Since they were already at his mercy, he could very well request a contract lasting over 5,000 or even 10,000 years.
Even though she had an immortal lifespan, she wasn’t keen on serving a single person for that long. She was already near the top of the hierarchy and could roam freely across the Middle Layer as long as she avoided other Princes or a King.
Tsyliria’s only genuine interest in forging a beast contract was to take a look at the Material Realm, the world the mysterious god before her had come from.
The others also silently awaited his response to her question.
“I’m thinking for as long as I live,” Orion replied.
Tsyliria sighed. His response had already been within her range of expectations. In fact, she would’ve found it suspicious if he hadn’t taken such an obvious opportunity to demand a long-lasting contract.
The other Spirit Beast women sighed inwardly as well.
“How long are we talking about, exactly? One lifetime? Or even after you’ve died and undergone reincarnation, until you’re completely gone?” she asked, curious.
The only reason she felt free to ask such a bold question was because she realised the Supreme Leader was surprisingly approachable. It seemed he wanted them to question him to their hearts’ content.
She wasn’t sure why he couldn’t just command them, but she was willing to take advantage of the opportunity.
“I would say the second. However, I don’t think I could ever truly die. But if such a day does come, then you’ll be freed from the beast contract,” Orion replied.
He hadn’t asked them to swear loyalty for two reasons. First, the divine artefact he had used with J’garin and the others was too weak to establish a bond with all of them.
He suspected it would collapse the moment he attempted it.
Perhaps it would be different with his Divine Medallion of Sovereign Accord or the Throne of Infinite Edict, as both were Divine Mandates.
But neither could function appropriately within the Spirit Realm.
Second, the place Orion had reserved in his heart for these women went far beyond simple beast contracts. If he had merely wanted baby-bearers, he could have snapped his fingers, and an ocean of Spirit Beast women would have appeared at his doorstep, eager for him to choose.
But that wasn’t what he wanted.
He wished to bring them into Paradise, and eventually, in the distant future, introduce them into his Divine Household.
He wasn’t in a rush to sire another child, especially one who might blur the boundary between Spirit Beast, Human, and god, considering Zymera had yet to deliver. In the meantime, he would use the opportunity to filter through those he found worthy.
Until then, beast contracts would suffice.
Tsyliria nodded in understanding.
“Are there any more questions?” Orion asked.
The Spirit Beasts shook their heads one by one.
Most of their deeper concerns would be voiced later on. None of them wanted to risk their lives with reckless questions beforehand.
“Alright then. Let’s begin,” Orion said, scanning the room. “Who wants to go first?”
“I’ll go first,” Vun-Shei replied.
Because her situation differed from the others, it didn’t matter to her how long Orion expected them to remain by his side.
She stepped forward and sat before Orion.
“I will initiate the contract,” she said calmly.
After reaching Viscount Rank, Spirit Beasts could choose whether to recreate their own contracts.
It was a personal decision.
Suddenly, a glowing array of runes formed a circle beneath Vun-Shei, expanding outward to surround Orion.
“You can review the contract,” she added, gesturing to the array.
A surge of information flowed directly into Orion’s mind. He immediately confirmed that the terms matched what they had discussed.
“Your blood,” Vun-Shei said softly.
Orion nodded. He drew a small cut across his palm and let a few drops of blood fall onto the glowing runes.
The arrays of runes shone with a bright light for several seconds.
Orion felt a connection forming between him and Vun-Shei.
The light dimmed moments later, and the runes vanished soon after.
The beast contract had been forged.
Vun-Shei stood up and bowed respectfully toward Orion before returning to her position.
Tsyliria walked forward afterwards.
The entire process for all of them took less than ten minutes.
After that, Orion sent them out to get familiar with one another, as well as with Celeste and the others, so he could get their evaluation on what they thought about them.
Next, he dealt with the Spirit Beasts who had come to meet with him privately.
The first individual was a tall woman dressed in a black robe adorned with grey embellishments, with two white furry ears protruding from either side of her head and a tail extending from the centre behind her waist.
She sat on the cushion across the wooden table from Orion.
Orion observed her intently. He remembered that she was one of the Spirit Beasts who had agreed to the binding oath Avarielle had proposed later on with Kun’lin, Crahon’ra, and the others. She no longer concealed her strength.
The aura she exuded was that of a Princess.
“I am Princess Dakari,” she introduced herself.
“I’ve come here to seek the Supreme Leader’s help,” she said.
Orion raised a brow in surprise. Then he narrowed his eyes at her. “I don’t believe I have any reason to help you, Princess Dakari. But since you’re here to speak with me privately, you must have your reasons.”
“It’s because this matter concerns the Vylkr entities, and their creator, whom I now know as Naka,” Dakari responded, her expression and gaze turning solemn.
Upon hearing her words, Orion’s gaze sharpened. “What is it?” he asked.
“I don’t know when it began, but the Vylkr spawns and other entities have started capturing high-ranking Spirit Beasts. It’s natural for them to enter conflict with any being other than their own due to their vile nature, but this time, it’s different,” Dakari said.
“They’re not killing the Spirit Beasts they capture. Instead, they’re imprisoning them. I know this because one of them was captured some time ago, but she’s still alive. Though I can sense her lifespan is rapidly draining.”
Initially, after sensing the King’s aura and further investigating the matter herself, she had hoped to meet Orion and request their cooperation in dealing with the issue.
Now, after all that had transpired, she realised she had made the right choice. That was also why she had approached them carefully. Otherwise, as a Princess, there was no way she could treat a god with such respect.
“But you are a Princess. How are you not able to handle a Vylkr entity?” Orion asked, frowning deeply.
He knew that, unlike gods, whose natural enemy was Vylkr energy and who would slowly die upon contact, Spirit Beasts had no such restriction. With the Celestial Cycle of Spirit Beasts protecting them, as they grew older, not only could they subdue the Vylkr energy, but also completely eliminate it.
Though this still depended on the strength of the Spirit Beast in question.
From what he had witnessed, the Vylkr spawns so far hadn’t been capable of contending with a Duke. But now, hearing that there were entities even Princesses were wary of, Orion’s mind began to spin.
From the knowledge he had devoured from Nyzzorrak’s memories, the stronger the Vylkr entity, the more likely it was directly related to Naka. That could lead him to one of his bases.
Dakari smiled wryly at Orion’s question.
“It seems you’re not fully aware. There exist Vylkr entities that are comparable in strength to a Princess. Their ability to absorb prey allows them not only to devour life force and grow stronger, but also to assimilate most of their victims’ abilities, and sometimes even fragments of their memories.”
“For now, these entities can only be found in the Lower Layer of the Spiritual Realm, where the malevolent Spirit Beasts dwell.”
