Chapter 414: Not Sparky?
“Complicated?”

“Kind of…” Celina muttered. “You see… While you were gone, the girls and I were a little bored. We tried learning some languages, and even lived our life there on the mountain. However… I was a bit more bored than that.”

She pointed at the castle, which soon began to shake. “So I explored the world… Aurelia was there too, but we stumbled upon a certain creature that we didn’t know how to deal with.”

The ground began to shake as the crystals from above slowly began to crack, almost like they would fall at any moment.

“S-So we captured the creature and brought it here, but it’s a little—”

Before she could even finish her words, the castle’s entrance exploded as a dark figure burst forth, heading straight for Celina.

Neraxis couldn’t see it because it was so fast, but he had a gut feeling that the creature wasn’t evil. And it seemed like his gut feeling was correct, since the moment the creature stopped, he soon recognized it from the many fairytales he had read as a child.

Dust settled, revealing a pitch-black scaled lizard with wings. Obviously, it was a black dragon. However, its size was that of a dog, so that meant it was a baby black dragon.

Yet that black dragon only acted menacing for a few moments before flopping down on its back and showing its belly to Celina. She crouched down and began to rub it playfully before shooting Neraxis a conflicted glance.

“I didn’t know what to do with it, so I brought it here instead of our home. I was sure it would’ve destroyed it when it got older, and I didn’t want the others to get attached,” Celina explained. “Only Aurelia and I know about it. Now you do too.”

“Aha…” Neraxis sighed. “I mean, I don’t get why you would hide something like this from the others. Also, destroy the home? Really?”

“It’s a bit powerful,” Celina replied with a slight smirk. “It’s stronger than me, an SSS+ rank. Only Aurelia was able to subjugate it, but even then, carrying it here was annoying. We accidentally leveled three mountains and burned down one forest.”

She turned back toward the black dragon and rubbed its belly again. “But… After taking it to this ancient ruin, we were able to seal it. Dragons always use mana, and if you use mana in here, you can’t find the exit. Rather, the cave would just close in on you.”

Neraxis raised a brow. “So what’s stopping a Saint-ranked dragon from just destroying the entire cave?”

Right as Celina opened her mouth to answer, the black dragon suddenly spewed a spiral of black flame at the ceiling.

However, instead of hitting the ceiling and going through it, the black flames dispersed, almost as if the entire room was covered in an array that blocked off any and all magic from leaving.

“As it turned out, this place is really good at keeping dragons in check,” Celina said with a giggle. “It’s not a bad dragon, and I could probably let it roam free. But there’s a chance it would destroy a city if left unattended. I guess I just don’t want to take that risk?”

Hearing that, Neraxis fell into thought for a few moments.

If it matures, then it can do whatever it pleases since it won’t be stupid, Neraxis thought, furrowing his brows. I can’t speed up its growth since I don’t have mana. That means I can’t accelerate its time… How troublesome.

He could ask Raguel to do it, but Neraxis was sure that he was out doing something weird, so there was no point in bothering him.

Instead, he crouched down and petted the dragon as well. He wasn’t sure what to do with it, but leaving it here seemed like a waste of resources.

After all, although he was now trillions of years old, he still had that childhood fantasy of riding a dragon.

Hahaha… I really feel like an old man. I should go watch one of those new television series or something, Neraxis thought, and then gently picked the dragon up.

Celina was slightly surprised as she raised her hands, as if trying to make sure the dragon wouldn’t attack Neraxis.

But to both their surprise, the black dragon only yelped slightly, almost as if in fear. It didn’t even try to blow any fire out of its mouth, nor did it even meet Neraxis eye to eye.

“He… Likes you?” Celina pointed out. “Or is he scared? I can’t tell.”

“Probably scared,” Neraxis replied. “But hey, is there really an ancient ruin down here, or did you just want me to see the dragon?”

Celina pouted. “There really is. It’s inside that castle’s basement. And no, I haven’t looked down there much. I left when I saw a giant door that didn’t really match the aesthetic.”

Neraxis smiled. “Then let’s do that. I’m sure this dragon would also be of help, right?”

The black dragon aggressively nodded and then flapped its wings, hovering right beside Neraxis.

“Can you understand me?” Neraxis asked, amused.

The black dragon nodded again and opened its mouth, blowing out a few puffs of smoke, as if further affirming Neraxis’s words.

“Hmm… Should I give you a name?” Neraxis wondered, his smile widening.

“How about Sparky?”

“Absolutely not,” Celina interjected, her brows twitching. “Its name is Onyx. I just came up with it because there’s no way we’re naming it Sparky.”

Neraxis was slightly sad that Celina didn’t like the name he had picked out, but that made him rethink the other names he had planned.

Since Evangeline was pregnant, he had to think of baby names.

Maybe Gerald if it’s a boy, and Linda if it’s a girl? Neraxis thought, then shook his head. I shouldn’t come to any rash decisions just yet. I have 9 months to think about it… And I won’t be alone either.

Anyhow, he put the baby names on hold for now and began slowly walking toward the castle.

After all, he wanted to check out this ancient ruin.
