Chapter 1013: Chapter 1013 The Jealous Zhane
Hearing his promise, Zhane exhaled a breath he hadn’t realized he was holding. He gave a small, respectful nod, and around them, the other Sullivan brothers straightened, their faces solemn. It was as if, in that silent moment, each of them made a vow, one of loyalty and resolve.
After all, they weren’t a bunch of ungrateful wretches. Hera and Zhane had done them a great favor by saving Cherry and even exposing Sophia’s cruel scheme to murder their younger sister, a truth that would have shattered their family from within.
Compared to that, this small promise was nothing.
They also understood that Zhane, and Hera who had been operating from the shadows, didn’t have to intervene, but they did. And though the Sullivans weren’t naïve enough to believe the pair acted without motive, a favor was still a favor.
At a time when they had nearly lost all hope, Hera and Zhane appeared before them like rain in a long, merciless drought, an unexpected lifeline when they were on the brink of collapse, a light of hope piercing through their darkness.
After all, many of their so-called close family friends and relatives had offered nothing but empty words of consolation and pity. Not one of them extended a genuine helping hand when the Sullivans needed it most.
So even though Zhane and Hera had come with their own agenda, the Sullivans still believed that it was far better than those who only spoke kind words but did nothing. At least these two acted when action mattered.
For that alone, the Sullivans felt deeply indebted to them, because in their darkest moment, when everyone else turned away, Hera and Zhane were the only ones who truly reached out.
“Alright then, I’ll connect you with Dr. Zigheart and my team so you can discuss the next steps and speak with potential donors. After that, I’ll have Gerald coordinate with you for all the necessary documentation and evidence.”
“It’s up to you whether you want to handle Sophia privately or let the law take its course,” Zhane said, his tone calm but laced with a chilling undertone. A cold glint flickered in his eyes, sharp enough to make the third Sullivan brother tense.
Feeling that oppressive gaze, a shiver ran down his spine, and cold sweat pooled on his back. He swallowed hard, the thought flashing through his mind like lightning: ‘Good thing my eldest brother had the sense to side with this man… Otherwise, I might not even know how we died.’
After their discussion, the Sullivans left Zhane’s office and went straight to Cherry’s room to share the good news. They made sure not to mention anything about Sophia, careful not to dampen Cherry’s mood, or alert Sophia that her schemes had already been exposed.
To ensure Cherry’s safety, they quietly assigned a trusted caretaker to stay by her side around the clock, someone who would closely monitor her meals, medicines, and anyone who entered or left her hospital room.
Although they didn’t want to alert Sophia that her plans had been exposed, so they could prepare and strike back at the right time, they couldn’t just sit by and let Cherry continue to be poisoned by that venomous woman.
The only thing they could do was place trusted people around Cherry to keep watch over her, ensuring she was never left alone with Sophia and that every meal or medicine she took was carefully controlled.
They could only justify the sudden changes by saying they were worried about Cherry’s condition and too busy to care for her personally, so they had no choice but to hire someone trustworthy to watch over her.
Even if Sophia grew suspicious of the sudden shift, she wouldn’t be able to confirm anything, and uncertainty would work in their favor. After all, when doubt crept in, Sophia would likely halt her schemes and lie low to assess the situation.
Only when she was certain everything was clear would she dare to resume her wicked plan. The Sullivan brothers knew that even if Sophia managed to poison Cherry successfully, it would all be meaningless if they uncovered her actions.
She wasn’t foolish enough to take that risk, and that gave them confidence that Cherry would have enough time to recover and prepare for the operation once the donors arrived.
Not long after, Dr. Zigheart arrived in Cherry’s room. It was the first time she had seen him while fully conscious. Although he was known to be a workaholic who had practically married his lab, he was also a renowned genius, someone on par with Zhane, and undeniably handsome.
There was an aloof, untouchable air about him that only made him more magnetic, and Cherry’s young heart couldn’t help but flutter the moment he stepped through the door.
Feeling plain and pale in her hospital gown, she grew self-conscious and lowered her gaze, stealing glances at him whenever she could. Yet her quiet admiration went unnoticed; everyone else was focused on discussing the treatment procedure.
Cherry listened intently as Dr. Zigheart spoke, his voice calm, confident, and precise, and she couldn’t help but look at him with awe. Meanwhile, the doctor remained oblivious to her gaze, his mind already ten steps ahead, mapping out every possible outcome of the treatment.
Hera and Zhane entered the room under the pretense of simply taking a stroll together, with Zhane pushing her wheelchair. The moment they stepped inside, Hera’s sharp eyes swept over the people present, quickly catching Cherry’s shy, admiring gaze directed at Dr. Zigheart.
Her lips curved into a mischievous smile as a thought bloomed in her mind.
Dr. Zigheart, after all, was single and practically married to his work. As his superior, wasn’t it only natural for her to be concerned about his personal life too? He was one of the key figures in her operations, an invaluable aide, and Cherry’s clear admiration sparked an idea.
Why not pair the two?
A marriage alliance with the Sullivans wouldn’t just strengthen ties; it might even turn into a beautiful love story, a workaholic doctor falling for a gentle, sickly young woman. The image alone made Hera chuckle softly, struggling to hide her amusement.
Zhane, hearing her quiet giggle, tilted his head curiously and followed her line of sight. But instead of guessing her playful scheme, he completely misunderstood. His jaw tightened ever so slightly, a faint hint of jealousy flickering in his eyes as he assumed Hera’s attention, and smile, were meant for Dr. Zigheart himself.
But Zhane wasn’t entirely wrong; Hera was looking at Dr. Zigheart with love in mind, though not for herself. Her matchmaking instincts had simply kicked in; she was thinking of pairing the aloof doctor with Cherry to add a bit of color to the young woman’s life.
Unfortunately, Zhane misunderstood completely.
Without a word, he reached down and pinched Hera’s soft cheek, clicking his tongue in irritation. “Tsk.”
It was the first time Hera had ever heard Zhane make that sound, and the clear note of jealousy in it caught her completely off guard. Her mischievous scheming evaporated at once as she blinked up at him, bewildered by his sudden display of possessiveness.
Zhane pretended not to notice Hera’s look and quietly pushed her wheelchair into the room. Behind them, Rafael followed, his sharp eyes scanning the hospital room as he took in the situation. He already knew the gist of how the negotiation had gone, which was why they had come to observe the next steps.
Completely unaware of the silent exchange between Hera and Zhane, or even noticing Hera’s little scheming, Rafael missed the flicker of jealousy that had just passed between Zhane and Hera.
Otherwise, if he had noticed the way Hera had looked at Dr. Zigheart, he too would have been jealous, and then Hera would have truly found herself caught between a rock and a hard place.
Feeling Zhane’s sudden jealousy, Hera scratched her head in confusion, not understanding what had sparked it. She decided to stay quiet as Zhane pushed her wheelchair further inside.
The Sullivan brothers and Dr. Zigheart, who had been deeply engrossed in discussing the upcoming procedures, paused and turned toward the new arrivals.
Meanwhile, Cherry, who had practically been staring at Dr. Zigheart with hearts in her eyes, snapped out of her daze when she noticed the doctor’s attention shift toward Hera. Following his gaze, Cherry’s eyes widened in surprise.
She recognized Hera instantly; after all, it hadn’t been long since they met in the garden. And with Hera’s striking, unforgettable beauty, it would have been impossible for Cherry to forget her in just a day.
“I-It’s you…” Cherry murmured weakly as recognition dawned on her. A faint, genuine smile slowly curved her lips. Despite being forced by Sophia to lie during their first encounter, Cherry had kept a good impression of Hera and the people around her.
She never understood what Sophia’s true intentions were back then, but as a woman, Cherry could tell that Sophia had her eyes on one of the men accompanying Hera.
