Chapter 1011: Chapter 1011 Paving The Path For The Future
“Indeed,” the fourth Sullivan brother added, his tone deceptively smooth. “We must make sure she receives all of our thanks for trying.” His words dripped with sarcasm, but the venom in his eyes told a different story, one of bloodlust barely restrained.
He expressed his gratitude with a smile, but what he truly meant was far from kind. What he really wanted was to make sure Sophia, that deceitful doctor who dared to hurt their beloved sister just to steal her place and enjoy her luxurious life, would be “well taken care of.”
In other words, he intended to make her life a living hell as payback for conspiring against them.
The Sullivans were not a family that sought conflict. In fact, they were known as some of the most good-natured people in the business world, a family whose strength came from unity, not rivalry.
It was this harmony that allowed them to rise into one of the most powerful families. But just because they rarely made enemies didn’t mean they were easy to bully.
They could tolerate many things, but Cherry is their bottom line, and Sophia had simply stepped on every one of their landmines. From today on, she shouldn’t expect an easy life.
The Sullivan brothers weren’t likely to move straight to murder; they preferred a slower, crueller approach. They could ruin her professionally and personally: blacklist her throughout the medical community, cut off every professional avenue, and close every door as the elder Sullivan brother has just that wide a connection in the business world.
If she tried to flee the country and rebuild her career overseas, they had the means to stop that, too. The second brother already held a high military rank as a Major General at his young age, and because of that, he enjoyed special treatment and had many influential patrons, like generals who were grooming him as a protégé.
With those connections, they could pressure military and border authorities to block her exit, or use back channels to make travel and work abroad impossible. In short, Sophia would find herself boxed in from every direction, with her options disappearing one by one.
That meant they would trap Sophia inside the country and crush her career, stripping her of status, opportunity, and dignity until she had no life left but a rat’s existence in the gutter.
If Sophia ever grew desperate enough to do something reckless, the Sullivan brothers, backed by Zhane and Hera, would be ready to stop her. That’s one reason Hera and Zhane shared their information with the Sullivans: not only to give them the chance to retaliate, but to prepare everyone for worst-case scenarios.
If Hera and Zhane moved against Sophia and she snapped, nobody could predict how far she might go, so it was safer to warn the people involved and coordinate a response in advance. Leo was part of that circle, too, which is why Hera and Zhane were being so meticulous.
“Dr. Zhane, thank you for all your help, and for going as far as to find an alternative donor for my sister. But I have to ask, is there something you want in return? Perhaps a business collaboration or some form of compensation for your efforts?” the fifth brother asked calmly.
He was the only one who managed to keep a clear head and focus on what truly mattered. Having already been deceived once by Sophia, he refused to let his guard down again.
If they allowed another person to take advantage of their trust, it would be nothing short of foolish, a lasting stain on their family’s pride. So, out of both caution and instinct, he chose to remain wary.
After all, once bitten, twice shy.
As the lawyer and the one in charge of the legal affairs of their family business, the fifth Sullivan brother leaned forward, resting his elbow on his knee as his sharp gaze locked onto Zhane. It was the kind of look one would give during an interrogation.
Zhane, however, remained calm and composed, meeting the man’s eyes without flinching.
“Fifth Young Master Sullivan,” he began evenly, “I actually enjoy speaking with sharp-minded people like you. As I mentioned earlier, this isn’t something I accomplished alone. I received significant help from the woman from earlier.”
“She was the one who conducted the extensive investigation and provided most of the information I’ve shared with you. In return, all we ask is that, should she need your assistance in the future, you extend your support to help her out.”
Zhane hadn’t intended to bring Hera into this, preferring to keep her role concealed. Yet, he couldn’t bring himself to dismiss her contribution; after all, she had done far more than anyone else.
The truth was, he had gone this far precisely because he knew the Sullivans were powerful allies, ones who could be invaluable to Hera when the time came for her to claim her rightful place as the Avery heiress and face the storms that would follow.
He knew that even though Hera appeared calm and unbothered about her impending fight for her rightful place, it was only because she didn’t want to make anyone around her worry. Deep down, Zhane understood that things wouldn’t be easy for her, and were actually far from it.
There was little he could do beyond offering help on the medical front. After all, the Avery family was a massive conglomerate with influence across countless industries, and his contribution alone would barely make a ripple.
That was why he believed they all needed to work together to support and protect her. Even then, it might still not be enough. They would need more allies, people like the Sullivans, because too many predators were already circling the Avery family, waiting for the perfect moment to strike.
Then Zhane added calmly, “The Avery family may also need your help in the future. When that time comes, I hope you’ll be willing to lend them your support. After all, the donor list and Dr. Zigheart’s assistance both came from them; it’s only right to return the favor.”
He leaned back on the sofa, tilting his head slightly as he waited for their response.
“The Avery family would need our help?” the fifth Sullivan brother asked, his brows raised in disbelief.
“Yes,” Zhane replied, his tone firm and expression serious. The sudden shift in his demeanor made him appear stern and composed, yet despite that, the Sullivan brothers almost couldn’t hold back their laughter.
What he said sounded so far-fetched that it bordered on absurd to them.
Zhane didn’t bother to elaborate that Hera and the Avery family were one and the same. He knew that when the time came, the Sullivans would eventually discover that Hera was the true heiress of the Avery family.
By then, he wouldn’t need to explain anything; the Sullivans would understand on their own, and when that perfect moment arrived, the promise they made today would naturally take effect.
The fifth Sullivan brother let out a low, skeptical chuckle. “Dr. Zhane, you must be joking. The Avery family is a powerful lineage that comes from old money, an empire with deep roots and hidden influence.”
“My family may be strong in our own right, but we could never compare to them. Tell me, what kind of help could we possibly offer to a family like that?”
The eldest and second Sullivan brothers also leaned forward, frowning in confusion. They understood each word Zhane said, yet when pieced together, his meaning felt like a jumbled puzzle they couldn’t quite grasp.
“That’s right, Dr. Zhane,” the eldest Sullivan brother spoke up, “our family may be powerful, but we could never compare to the Averys. What kind of help could we possibly offer them?”
Zhane smiled faintly, deliberately taking his time, which only made the Sullivan brothers’ already pounding hearts and swirling thoughts race even more. Countless possibilities ran through their minds as they tried to make sense of it all.
Why would a powerful family like the Averys take notice of them, let alone offer help? As far as they knew, it was usually families like theirs who sought the protection of an influential household, not the other way around.
The whole situation felt too good to be true, almost like they were being handed a false promise.
