1006: Chapter 1006 Getting Back On Track?

1006: Chapter 1006 Getting Back On Track?

It only meant that Hera’s men had already thought several steps ahead; they knew exactly how to control their strength and calculate every strike with precision.

In this way, Hera’s bodyguards wouldn’t give their enemies any chance to exploit the situation or use their injuries to cause trouble for Hera, such as reporting her and her people to the police in an attempt to get them jailed.

Silvia could have used that as a way to get back at Hera and reclaim some pride after being humiliated, but unfortunately for her, that plan was doomed from the start.

Sure enough, after fuming for the entire elevator ride, Silvia thought of reporting Hera and her men for assault.

However, when she learned that while her bodyguards were in pain, none of them had any visible bruises or marks of being attacked, she realized she couldn’t use that angle.

So instead, she considered using the hospital’s surveillance footage to accuse Hera of starting a fight inside hospital premises and add more charges on top of that.

But again, luck wasn’t on her side.

The altercation happened on the VIP floor, and the surveillance footage there was highly confidential, accessible only to the hospital’s directors and upper management.

To make matters worse, the hospital was owned by Zhane’s family, meaning Silvia had absolutely no power to obtain that footage.

Zhane could easily refuse to give her any access or even have the surveillance permanently deleted if he wanted to.

“Ugh!” Silvia groaned in frustration.

She was on the verge of screaming, but she forced herself to hold it in, mainly because the people she brought to record the confrontation were still watching.

She didn’t want them to see just how humiliated she was at that moment.

She had already lost enough face; the last thing she needed was to make an even bigger spectacle of herself.

So instead, Silvia turned on her heel and stormed off, leaving her battered bodyguards to drag their aching bodies out of the hospital while leaning on each other for support.

To those who didn’t know what had happened, the sight looked almost comical, like a squad returning from a lost battle.

Curious onlookers snapped photos and videos, posting them online within minutes, and soon, Silvia’s humiliation began spreading even wider across social media.

Meanwhile, Hera returned to Leo’s room with a victorious, contented smile.

She had just sent the cuckoo away with a satisfying outcome, rendering Silvia speechless in front of everyone.

Even if Silvia tried to stir things up later online and sling mud at her, few would believe her now.

Hera had already come out on top in their first public confrontation, one witnessed by countless netizens who saw Silvia hesitate and fail to give a clear answer about the supposed Avery”“Hendrix engagement.

That hesitation alone was almost an admission that no such arrangement existed, and Hera knew Silvia would never dare push the Avery family to make that announcement, not when Old Master Avery could discover that she had been coveting Leo all along.

Silvia definitely didn’t want Old Master Avery finding out about any of this.

Yet at the same time, she was probably fuming and fidgeting, trying to figure out how to fix the mess she’d made.

Her attempt to humiliate Hera had completely backfired, and the thought of it must’ve been driving her insane, making her stomach twist with anxiety and rage.

After all, if Old Master Avery learned what she’d done and decided to cast her out before she managed to secure Leo or the title of Mrs.

Hendrix, she would lose everything.

That fear alone could easily push her toward desperation.

But that wasn’t Hera’s problem anymore.

After all, she wasn’t the one who started the trouble; she merely turned Silvia’s own attack back against her.

So, she felt no hint of guilt or remorse for how things ended.

“Done?” Leo asked the moment Rafael pushed Hera’s wheelchair into the room, noticing the victorious smile on her face.

“Uh-huh,” Hera replied with a playful lilt in her voice, her bright smile saying more than words ever could.

“Good.” Leo’s voice carried a balance of warmth and indifference, but when Hera looked up, she caught the faint curl of his lips, a subtle smile that told her he approved of her actions.

The fact that he wasn’t acting like a tsundere this time was a pleasant surprise, and it made her heart flutter.

It felt like she was slowly melting the ice around his heart, and that thought made her smile even wider, her eyes crinkling with delight.

“Come on,” Leo said softly.

“Let’s forget about unimportant people and get some sleep…” He paused mid-sentence, his gaze flicking toward her as his lips pursed, as though he were debating something in his mind.

Then, in a low murmur barely above a whisper, he added, “Wanna sleep beside me?” Hearing that, Rafael raised an eyebrow and couldn’t help but smirk at Leo, amusement dancing in his eyes.

“No can do.

You’re still a patient, you need proper rest,” Rafael said firmly as he wheeled Hera closer to their bed.

Then, with practiced ease, he leaned down and carefully lifted her from the wheelchair, carrying her over to the king-sized bed beside Leo’s.

Leo, seeing this, bit his lip and clutched his blanket tightly.

“But Hera’s a patient too.

Why are you allowed to sleep beside her, and I can’t?

I’m her legitimate partner, her fiancé, and you are just…” He trailed off, the rest of the sentence echoing only in his mind, ‘a male vixen’.

His jaw tightened as frustration bubbled beneath the surface.

He didn’t even understand why he was so affected.

Maybe it was his subconscious remembering fragments of Hera, or perhaps the knowledge that she was his fiancée stirred something deeper, something primal in him.

A possessive instinct, a territorial pull.

Whatever it was, it made him restless.

Every time he saw her with another man, an unfamiliar pang twisted in his chest, and that strange, squirming feeling in his stomach only grew stronger.

He was certain it wasn’t just jealousy eating at him when he saw her with them; it was the gnawing sense of being left behind.

That realization only deepened his frustration.

So instead of keeping up his cold, distant façade, he decided he would rather face these emotions head-on and get to know Hera better, if only to understand what he was truly feeling.

After all, Leo despised the unknown, and what he hated even more was losing control, especially over his emotions.

Yet when it came to Hera, control was exactly what slipped through his fingers.

He might be good at masking his thoughts and hiding behind his composure, but deep down, he was utterly unsettled.

“Oh?

You remember things now?” Rafael teased as he carried Hera toward the king-sized bed.

“Not yet,” Leo replied coolly, his glare sharp enough to cut.

He knew Rafael was deliberately provoking him, but he refused to take the bait.

Instead, he watched and waited.

If Rafael didn’t put Hera down beside him soon, Leo was fully prepared to drag his battered body over to that bed himself, pain or no pain.

And when he did, he was certain Hera would react.

If she truly liked him the way he suspected, she’d be worried, maybe even heartbroken, seeing him struggle.

Then, she’d start feeling dissatisfied with Rafael.

Even without his memories, Leo’s instinct for scheming hadn’t dulled.

He was already setting the stage, quietly maneuvering Rafael into a corner without the man even realizing it.

This was the difference between the empress and the concubines of the harem.

Leo played the long game, while Rafael and the others only toyed at the surface.

Even with his supposed amnesia, Leo hadn’t changed one bit.

Now that he had decided to understand Hera and get closer to her, his natural scheming instincts were kicking in, whether he realized it or not.

To secure his position in this modern-day “harem,” he first needed to establish his dominance and influence.

That meant knowing how to manage the other men, subtly putting them in their place without them ever realizing they were being handled.

That way, peace would be maintained, and their little rivalry for Hera’s attention would remain tolerable, just harmless competition within bounds.

After all, a bit of playful roughhousing among concubines was perfectly acceptable… as long as no one crossed the line.

Sure enough, Rafael gently placed Hera on the king-sized bed, deliberately making sure Leo wouldn’t get the chance to sleep beside her.

After all, with Leo still suffering from amnesia, they all saw this as the perfect opportunity to nurture their own connection with Hera, to finally close the gap that had always existed between her and them when Leo was the favored one on top.

Now that fate had leveled the playing field, Rafael and the others intended to take full advantage of it.

They planned to slowly win Hera’s favor while Leo was still busy acting cold and tsundere, hoping his aloof attitude would annoy her enough to make him lose his top spot in her heart.
