Chapter 3671: Medical Oversight
“How are His Highness’ vitals?” An older woman asked with a serious expression.

“Stable, Doctor Varis. We have not seen any reason for concern. Right now, it appears that his epithelial system is undergoing the first stage of his metamorphosis. So far, the microsensors of the medical cocoon have not detected any autoimmune response from the immune system. It appears that the flesh being integrated into his body is being slowly assimilated into his flesh without any problems.”

“Good,” Doctor Varis replied with a calm and composed tone as her eyes remained fixed on the medical cocoon that Rui submerged within. “It appears that the Void Prince was not mistaken when he said he could handle the immune system’s response. We can trust that he has taken the right measures for this procedure.”

When Rui had told the medical team assigned to his case what his intentions were with his metamorphosis, they had been shell-shocked. To say that his project was ambitious was a grave understatement. It was completely and utterly demented.

Then he told them that he had informed the Divine Doctor and had consulted him on how to go about it, and they calmed down just a little. Every medical expert in the Kandrian Empire had come to gain a tremendous amount of respect, awe, and admiration for the greatest medical expert on their continent.

The man could perform miracles.

From completely dissecting alien botany and biology without ever actually causing any harm to the subject to leapfrogging their medical technology by decades with ease, he was on a different level.

He had achieved immortality without even using medical equipment, completely halting his body’s aging. Although he had been less willing to share this technique, he had still improved their longevity potions greatly, nonetheless.

That was the reason that they had been willing to allow the Void Prince not only to proceed with his crazy plan but even to take a more passive and reactive position. They would only intervene if something was clearly going wrong.

Of course, that didn’t mean Dr. Varis was laid back about the matter, not at all. Her elderly eyes remained fixed on Rui’s medical cocoon like a hawk, never once shifting away from it even once.

The entirety of the medical team remained on high alert at all times, no matter how exhausting that was. Nothing could be allowed to happen to the Void Prince, that was absolutely clear.

Even without the Emperor of Harmony going out of his way to inform them of the importance of keeping him alive and able, they would never have dared to hold back on their duty of monitoring his condition.

Even if they weren’t well-informed on geopolitical events, the world war that had erupted between the seven continents was truly grave and severe. It was an existential war for the Panamic Continent that fought in self-defense to protect itself from those who sought to annihilate it and take its resources.

Every single Panmanian had learned of the war by now, and there was even footage of the devastation it brought available on the interweb. The urgency and the gravity of the situation had thus fully penetrated the entire continent, even to those who lived far away from any action.

This was especially true for the Kandrians, who were the primary target. Each and every single Kandrian citizen experienced a level of dread when they learned that the tekvores, the giants, and the Evolutionary Army were attacking them and only them.

Not even the month-long war that had occurred shortly after the Unfolding had inspired such fear in the Kandrian citizens, for that conflict was spread across the continent. This time, they were the only target!

In just the span of days, the Kandrian Empire had completely changed.

All seafaring and maritime affairs were completely halted for obvious reasons. This had instantly spelled economic destruction for a large chunk of the Kandrian Empire’s rich seafaring and maritime industry.

The Emperor of Harmony had, of course, accounted for this and had already announced a special bankruptcy program that completely spared owners of any liability, promised all shareholders remuneration, and all stakeholders compensation.

The seafaring industry rapidly became nationalized as the Kandrian government took over countless companies, consortia, and corporations while also creating incentive structures for shipyards and any other private player to contribute to the war effort through any means.

The economic shocks could not be understated.

It triggered a recession, at least on paper.

This was, of course, horrible news for the ruling class, which enjoyed tremendous support at the grassroots level. With the interweb allowing even ordinary citizens to access public information effortlessly, everybody had immediately learned that it was Prince Rui Quarrier who was responsible for triggering the conflagration that escalated to war with his decision to harness the army of sea monsters to the Great Void Ocean.

Normally, this would have led to people cursing him for triggering a war that could destroy them all, but the reactions were muted.

In fact, they reversed entirely.

“How dare they declare war on us just because our prince wiped the ocean floor with their butts?!”

“Salty bastards just can’t take an L!”

“You lost fair and square!”

The Panamanians almost universally blamed foreigners for the war, even if it had been triggered by Rui. It was simply psychologically impossible for them to blame him for anything. Seventeen years of living under terror and horror from the Beast Incursion, with the only light of hope and salvation coming in the form of the Dawnbringer, had made it so that every single citizen of the continent developed a deep fondness and adoration for him.

Then there was the Faith of Dawn and the Virodhabhasa Faith, both of which were deeply penetrated into human civilization, which made it outright heresy to cast criticism on Rui.

It wasn’t healthy by any means, but it showed how important he was spiritually. It was another reason why the medical team watching him felt a tremendous amount of pressure, pushing them to dedicate their everything to ensuring that they watched over his safety.

If something happened to the Void Prince, they would not survive the consequences!
