Chapter 220: His beautiful Confession
Axel’s silence made Evelyn even more nervous.

“Axel… I’m sorry if my words offended you,” she said quickly, forcing a light laugh that didn’t quite reach her eyes.

Still no response from him, Evelyn feels even worse about what she said. She lowered her gaze, focusing on her hands, trying to avoid his look.

“I just…” She softly whispers, enough for him to hear her, “You know, jealous… Ugh, can we talk about something else?”

“Eve,” Axel finally said.

She looked up, startled to see him rise from his seat slowly, his chair sliding back with a faint sound.

Then he moved closer until he stood beside her.

Without another word, he knelt down, rested one knee against the floor, and smiled at her.

Evelyn blinked in surprise. “Axel, what are you doing—”

But before she could finish her sentence, Axel raised a hand. His index finger gently pressed against her lips, silencing her.

Her pulse quickened.

His gaze was steady, warm, and sincere. “I never brought anyone here,” he said quietly. “Only you.”

The words struck her harder than she expected.

She froze, eyes wide, searching his face for any hint of teasing or exaggeration… but there was none. His voice was calm, his tone honest.

“Really?” she whispered.

He nodded slightly.

“You can ask Dylan. Or anyone in this building. I’ve never involved my personal life with anyone here. This place—” he gestured subtly around them “—was always separate. Until you.”

Her heart softened instantly.

“Axel…” she murmured, guilt enveloping her. “I didn’t mean to sound—”

He cut her off again, this time not with words but with a gentle smile. “You’re jealous,” he said, almost like a statement of fact.

Evelyn’s cheeks flushed again. “I’m not.”

“You are,” he teased, leaning a little closer. “And it’s adorable.”

She tried to deny it with her glare at him, but his smirk made it impossible to stay annoyed.

“You’re right… I’m jealous,” she didn’t want to hide how she felt right now.

Axel’s hand brushed against her jawline, his touch warm and grounding.

“You have no reason to be jealous, Eve,” he said softly. “Whatever I did before… whoever they were… it ended long before you came into my life, before we signed the papers as husband and wife. You’re the only one I ever wanted to bring into this space. The only one I wanted to stay.”

Her chest tightened at his words. “Axel, you make my heart flutter…”

He tilted his head slightly, eyes glinting. “Still think I was talking about dessert just now?”

Her lips parted in shock, and she playfully slapped his arm. “Can you not ruin this moment? I’m genuinely happy to hear your beautiful confession…”

He chuckled, taking her hand before she could pull away. “I promise, I will confess to you every day.”

“Now you’re just trying to charm your way out,” she said, but her voice softened.

Axel lifted her hand and gently kissed her knuckles. His eyes stayed fixed on hers, “Do I need to?”

Evelyn sighed, her expression melting.

“Axel Knight, you’re lucky I love you.”

“I know,” he said simply. “That’s why I never take it for granted.”

For a brief moment, silence filled the room again as they looked at each other with affection.

The tension, the teasing, and the humor slowly blended into something warmer, deeper.

Evelyn reached out and fixed his collar, her fingers brushing against his neck. “So… You really never brought anyone here?” she asked again, quietly.

Axel shook his head, eyes holding hers for a slight moment. Then, he firmly answered, “Never.”

A soft smile appeared on her lips. “Good.”

He stood up, pulling her with him, his hands resting lightly on her waist.

“You’re my first here, Eve,” he murmured against her hair. “And I’d like to keep it that way.”

Her heart was pounding all over again. “You’re making it hard to finish my lunch,” she whispered, trying to sound annoyed.

“That’s because I’m thinking about dessert,” he replied smoothly, his tone low.

Evelyn gave him a half-hearted glare. “Axel…”

“Yes, Mrs. Knight?”

“Eat your lunch before I finish it for you!”

He laughed and leaned in to kiss her cheek before he allowed her to sit again.

“Alright, I won’t tease you anymore. Please finish your food quickly, then go shopping online. You can enjoy the dessert in the fridge later.”

Her eyes beamed at the mention of shopping and ice cream.

She tried to look composed, but her smile betrayed her again. Somewhere between his teasing and sincerity, her earlier jealousy melted away.

And when Axel caught her smiling like that, he knew he didn’t need any other kind of dessert. He already had everything he wanted sitting right in front of him.

…

After lunch, Axel stood from his chair, glancing at his watch before looking at her.

“I should finish some work,” he said softly. “It won’t take long. You can rest here or shop online, whatever you like.”

Evelyn smiled warmly, “Don’t rush. I’ll be fine. Go handle your empire, Mr. Knight. I’ll enjoy my time.”

He chuckled, leaning down to kiss her forehead before heading to the door.

“I’ll be quick,” he promised, his tone both firm and affectionate.

Then, with one last glance at her, he stepped out and quietly closed the door behind him.

As silence filled the room, Evelyn sank comfortably into the sofa.

The soft cushions seemed to invite her to stay there forever.

She reached for the iPad Dylan had given her earlier, unlocking it with a light tap.

Shopping for Axel’s gift had been on her mind since morning, and now she finally had the time to do it.

Still, the quiet felt too heavy. She glanced around, then picked up the remote and turned on the television.

“Okay, let’s have a little background noise,” she murmured to herself.

The screen flickered to life, and a live news report filled the room.

At first, she didn’t pay much attention. But as soon as the reporter mentioned a familiar name, her gaze shot toward the TV.
