Chapter 195: I Will Tell You Everything!
Evelyn had no interest in talking with the man who had kicked her out of his house, disowned her, and humiliated her in front of the whole nation.

The ringing stopped.

She exhaled, preparing to finally focus on work.

But before her laptop even finished booting, her phone buzzed again.

This time, it was a text.

“Evelyn! When did you gain the audacity to mingle with the Knights? Have you lost your mind?”

She froze for a split second, then burst out laughing. The absurdity of it all was too much.

“Lost my mind? He must be joking. Right!?”

This was the same man who told her she no longer existed in his world.

The same man who cared more about his reputation than his daughter.

And now, suddenly, he had the nerve to lecture her about who she was “mingling” with?

She shook her head in disbelief.

Maybe he finally realized he was wrong?

Or,

Maybe the stress from his precious mistress, Lana, had finally eaten his brain cells.

At first, she planned to ignore the message. But it was too funny not to reply.

“Who are you? You’re not someone who can tell me what to do. Stop contacting me. I’ll block your number.”

She hit “Send” and smiled in satisfaction. That felt good. Liberating, even.

Placing her phone on the desk, she turned back to her laptop.

But peace lasted all of ten seconds before another message appeared.

“Call me. I will tell you the reason why the Knights and the Walters can never work together or have any relationship.”

Evelyn suddenly feels as if the entire world has come to a halt.

Her eyes widened as she reread the words. Once. And then twice. And finally, three times.

The message is still there.

Her hands gradually started to shake slightly, and her heart raced faster than she was willing to admit.

That sentence… “The reason why the Knights and the Walters can never work together” was something she had wanted to hear in her entire life.

It was like a family curse in her mind.

Every time she had asked about it growing up, her father’s answer had been the same: “Don’t question it. Just remember, you can’t befriend or work with the Knight family for the rest of your life!”

Even when she was old enough to demand the truth, her father had simply tightened his jaw and walked away.

Not even her grandparents ever explained why the Knights were treated like enemies.

And now, years later, after everything he had done to her, after he had kicked her out for refusing to abort her child… he wanted to talk about the reason?

Her stomach twisted in conflict.

Part of her wanted to throw the phone across the room and never look back.

But another part of her… the one that still carried old scars and unanswered questions, wanted to know.

What if there was something bigger behind their families’ feud?

Something she needed to understand… especially now that she was married to Axel Knight.

She sank into her chair and leaned back, rubbing her temples.

“Should I call him?” she whispered to herself. “What if it’s another manipulation?”

But what if it wasn’t?

The silence in the room felt heavier by the second.

Even the sound of the clock ticking seemed louder, pushing her toward a decision she didn’t want to make.

She looked at her phone again.

The message glowed on the screen, almost mocking her hesitation.

‘What could he possibly tell me that I don’t already know?’ she thought bitterly.

Yet her hand was already reaching for the phone.

Her thumb hovered above the call button, shaking slightly.

She pressed it, “Call”

The ringing tone echoed in her ear, and her heart pounded faster with each second. She half-expected him not to answer.

But he did.

“Evelyn.” His deep voice carried through the speaker.

It was calm but heavy, the kind of tone that instantly transported her back to being a scolded daughter in his grand dining room.

Her hand clenched around her phone.

“What do you want?” she asked calmly, trying not to sound nervous when talking again to the man she hated the most.

“I want you to stop whatever plan you have in your head. I hear the news you mentioned, ‘the company’s philanthropic collaboration with Hope Medical Center.’ Have you lost your mind?”

Evelyn smiled faintly upon hearing his words.

But before she could speak, he kept talking, silencing her.

“Are you insane, Evelyn!? Or, are you STUPID? You know, I’m no longer in the company, and now you’re returning to ruin it? Work with Axel Knight’s company?”

She silently cursed him in her mind before calmly asking, “Then tell me what this long-hidden secret is that has haunted The Knight and Walters for decades?”

For a moment, there was only silence on the other end.

Then his voice dropped lower, almost cold.

“It’s not something to discuss over the phone. Meet me, and I’ll tell you everything.”

Evelyn frowned. “Meet you? Where?”

“At the old family estate. Tonight.”

Her pulse quickened. “Why should I trust you? You might just be trying to humiliate me again.”

“You have my word.” His tone softened slightly. “This is something you deserve to know, Evelyn. Something that was hidden from you since you were born.”

“What do you mean since I was born?” she asked. Confused.

William Walters didn’t reply; he simply hung up.

Evelyn stared at the phone in disbelief, her pulse racing with frustration.

For a moment, she only sat there, unable to decide whether to scream or laugh at her own stupidity.

She had fallen for it! Again.

“Never again,” she muttered, pressing her lips together as anger burned beneath her calm expression.

Taking a deep breath, she unlocked her phone and began to type, her fingers moving fast and sharp.

“I don’t care about you or your past. Don’t ever contact me again.”

She hit ‘send’ and immediately blocked his number.

The moment the screen confirmed it, a weight lifted from her chest.

But irritation lingered.

How did he even get her new number?

She quickly messaged Oscar, her trusted assistant.

“Oscar, I don’t know how, but my father found my new phone number. Can you find out how he got it?”

After sending it, Evelyn walked to her coffee maker.

The familiar sound of brewing soothed her nerves a little.

“Coffee indeed solves everything,” she murmured to herself, trying to drown out the echo of her father’s voice still haunting her thoughts.
