The Innkeeper - Chapter 1989
Chapter 1989: What the…
Helix Petal Rose. Lex did not raise one eyebrow, but both! Holy bloody hell!
Since Lex was the owner of the Midnight Inn, and had a very competent worker underneath him who was fond of gardening, Lex had done much to increase his knowledge about plants over the years. After all, it would be too sad if Lex missed out on good opportunities out of ignorance.
He especially paid attention to rare and valuable plants, the kinds that could give him huge benefits yet were hard to grow. Naturally, older plants that were linked to mythical stories and legends were even higher on his priority list.
As it turned out, the Helix Petal Rose was a part of a legend as well. It was said that back in the early days of the universe, before any race became too famous, and the ego of dragons was reigned in a bit, a dragon and phoenix fell in love.
The Helix Petal Rose supposedly grew only in their nest, marinating in their auras, intertwining both their powers into becoming something greater!
This flower was said to be extinct, for dragons and phoenixes now had a rivalry that went back to the beginning of the universe, so naturally they would not cohabitate.
Lex was not shocked because of the rarity of the flower, although that in itself was amazing. The flower was something even peak Celestial Immortals would covet, and yet his mother seemed to have used it to nurture Lex’s physique. Comparatively speaking, Lex felt like she had just brute forced Lex’s physique to get minimal results because the flower should have been able to give him many more abilities than just help improve others. Then again, that ability was also pretty powerful if used properly.
The actual reason Lex was shocked was because he had previously thought that his physique was born as a result of copying phoenixes or something because of the healing and evolving properties of his blood. Now it seemed that while he wasn’t exactly right, he also wasn’t exactly wrong. Hidden deep within his body must be traces of a phoenix’s power which is why his blood could heal!
Moreover, that also explained why his body took to his dragonform so easily. Yes, his cultivation technique played a role. But if it was that simple, then he wouldn’t need a drop of Jorlam blood to transform every time he wanted to enter that form. There was no such restriction for his dragonform.
That could also possibly explain why dragons were not so averse to him, and accepted him so easily. Maybe the dragon aura he displayed was not entirely something he stole, but something he had all along.
Although the news hadn’t fundamentally changed Lex’s life in any way, having a deeper understanding of oneself was critical on the path of cultivation. This explained a few things that could prove very useful in the future, especially since he still planned on cooperating with Vinei in the future.
Serene and Leon could both see that news of the Helix Petal Rose had surprised Lex, and that actually relieved them both. Everything in their lives was dramatic enough to write a dozen novels and even shoot some films on, but Lex treated it all as if it were nothing. Even now, he hadn’t asked a single question about the heritage, as if he couldn’t be bothered to care for it at all.
While that also made things easier for them, since they didn’t want to have to hide things, it also made them feel exasperated. It was not easy when one of their children was so successful that it made their hurdles seem like nothing.
“For Belle, it was much simpler,” Serene continued. “The primary ingredient used in her body is called Fabled Sanctuary. It’s a type of crystal that can be formed during the maturing process of a regular realm into a Major realm. Even though it sounds simple enough, the actual conditions for its creation are so unique that it hardly exists in the universe. Fabled Sanctuary is actually an incredible treasure, valued especially by Deities because it can perfectly preserve and hide Divine Fires, leaving no traces whatsoever.
“That, when combined with some of the supporting ingredients, gave her an affinity for Angelic Bloodlines, which is why she could support a Valkyrie Heart. In truth, I’ll bet her ability to utilize divine energy is even better than Angels themselves, almost rivaling Deities.”
Lex tried to keep his lips from twitching.
“So the secret to making physiques is to utilize Immortal level resources that are rare across the universe? Who could have guessed,” he said, slightly sarcastically.
Serene shrugged.
“Do you think that as a mere mortal, it was easy for me to make physiques out of thin air? Now, as an Immortal, I wouldn’t necessarily need such valuable resources, but back then my means and abilities were limited. I could only make use of whatever I had on hand.”
Oh, so she just happened to have a Helix Petal Rose and a Fabled Sanctuary on hand. That was perfectly normal. On a serious note, he couldn’t help but wonder about the heritage. He was able to guess that it was easily a Dao level heritage. Even though these ingredients weren’t Dao level ingredients themselves, their rarity made it so that only a Dao Lord could accumulate all of them.
“Liz was a little complicated,” Serene continued. “So far, I did my best to actually use resources from any kind of animal, to avoid influencing the baby’s character, and to avoid any unexpected mutations. But by the time it came to Liz, I had acquired some practice and my level was higher as well.
“But, just to be extra safe, I used a Lionel Condensate – basically the liquefaction of the very concept of adaptability that ancient humans had. That is what allowed her to achieve the perfect Beast master physique, though I suspect that’s only the most basic ability of her actual physique.”
Lex stared at his parents dumbfounded. Previously he wondered if they were smart or stupid. Now, he was even more confused. How does one liquify a concept? And then, after liquifying the essence of human adaptability, how can they not know what abilities it gave Liz? What the hell?
