The Incubus System Chapter 833. The Guardian of The Border
But instead of answering him like usual, I used my telepathy again.
‘I just encountered something unusual in the human world,’ I began. ‘I think this has something to do with what Azrael told us.’
In response, a slight frown creased his brow.
‘Why do you have to use telepathy?’ he questioned, his mental voice carrying a tone of mild irritation. ‘Just explain as usual. This place has a special security spell to prevent spies from hearing any conversations.’ His reassurance was clear.
I stood my ground, my decision firm. ‘Just communicate with this and listen to my story. You’ll understand why I do it,’ I replied through our telepathic link.
In response, Lord Damon let out a long, exasperated breath. It was clear that he was not entirely pleased with my insistence. ‘Fine,’ he relented, his tone carrying a hint of resignation. ‘Tell me what happened.’
I launched into the narrative. I described how, with little warning, a crack had materialized as suddenly as a lightning bolt, only to vanish just as swiftly, the way it appeared and closed in the blink of an eye, leaving no trace behind.
I detailed the emergence of the colossal eye, recounted how it materialized, and revealed how it had managed to seize Beel’s core.
I described the confrontation that followed. The sheer power that emanated from the colossal eye, its power.
Then, I made my final deduction. I suggested that the colossal eye and the power felt by Azrael might be interconnected. I explained how I had sensed an unusual demonic power emanating from the colossal eye.
‘I guess this has something to do with what Azrael has experienced,’ I mused, my thoughts laid bare. ‘It’s just that the time frame doesn’t match.’
Lord Damon remained deep in thought, his brow furrowed with concentration.
I could practically hear the gears turning in his mind. It was clear that something was brewing, and I couldn’t help but wonder if Lord Damon had a hunch.
I leaned in closer, my curiosity getting the better of me. ‘Do you know anything?’
He turned his gaze toward me, his eyes meeting mine. ‘I have a guess,’ he finally admitted, his voice measured. ‘But I’m not sure.’
‘Why?’ I asked, intrigued by the idea that such a creature might have ties to a demon world.
‘Because this is just a legend,’ he began, his tone wavering slightly. ‘In fact, I only knew it through my father’s stories. Something similar to a bedtime story for humans. So I never take this seriously.’ His words were tinged with doubt. ‘But based on what you said,’ he continued, ‘that’s all I can think of.’
‘So this creature’s origin is some kind of story about unicorns or pegasus?’
Lord Damon’s response was matter-of-fact. ‘Unicorns and pegasus do exist in the light dimension,’ he pointed out.
‘Then this creature might also exist,’ I stated with a furrowed brow, my gaze fixed on him.
Lord Damon nodded, confirming my suspicion. ‘So, based on my father’s story,’ he began, ‘a long time ago, there was a creature that guarded the border between the human and demon world. This creature will not prevent creatures from two worlds from entering each other, but only ensures that no creatures are trapped in between.’
My eyes widened at the revelation. ‘Wait… you mean there is another world on the border?’ I sought further clarification.
Lord Damon explained. ‘It can’t be said to be a world or dimension. It’s simply just a little space between two worlds. Something like a small alley between two buildings.’
‘Alright, then?’ I prompted, eager to hear more of his story, my curiosity piqued.
Lord Damon continued.
‘This creature usually guards that space,’ he explained, ‘but he should have fallen asleep long ago because he was bored. There has never been a case of a creature being trapped between worlds, after all.’
As he spoke, the pieces of the puzzle began to fall into place, and a realization dawned on me. ‘I think I understand what happened…’ I began.

Chapter 844: Chapter 834. Interdimensional Catastrophe
The Incubus System Chapter 834. Interdimensional Catastrophe
“Explain,” he said, leaning forward, the seriousness etched in his tone, his eyes fixed on me.
‘It seems Zatan and Beel managed to create a crack right at the border, slipping into the space between two worlds. That’s why our radar was zilch, and all our hunting turned up nada,’ I explained, my eyes locked onto his, matching his serious vibe.
‘Okay,’ he nodded slowly. ‘But what about the guardian? That old tale says he doesn’t allow anyone to hang around for long, and his weird behavior, what’s the deal with that?’ Lord Damon furrowed his brows, clearly puzzled. ‘I mean, I’ve never heard of him teaming up with anyone or having the power to bridge worlds. He’s just there, chilling with his own mojo,’ he added in a sarcastic tone, his confusion making it to round two.
‘It’s a wild card, I agree. That guardian is a bit of an enigma,’ I admitted, scratching my head. ‘I mean, he’s an oddball, for sure. He might be more than just a gatekeeper and he’s got these untapped powers or something. Still, it’s the same as a Rubik’s Cube in the dark,’ I said.
Damon grunted, his demon-king brain clearly on overdrive. ‘Well, this is one mess that needs a cleanup, and fast,’ he muttered, more to himself than to me.
‘Yeah,’ I sighed, realizing this puzzle was about to get even more complicated. ‘The situation is escalating quicker than a cat video going viral.’
Due to my statement, Lord Damon gave me a flat stare. ‘Cat video? Seriously?’ he asked, raising one of his eyebrows.
I grinned awkwardly. ‘Well, everyone loves cat videos,’ I said innocently.
He let out a sharp exhale. ‘Scratch that. Do you have any idea why he did it?’
I rested my hand on my chin, fingers drumming lightly against my skin. ‘Hmm…’ I mused, trying to dissect the motives behind it all.
But after a moment of mental gymnastics, I just shook my head. ‘I don’t have a clue just yet. But I bet, Beel and Zatan probably dangled something in front of the guardian that he couldn’t resist,’ I suggested.
Lord Damon lapsed into silence, lost in the labyrinth of his own thoughts.
Eventually, he broke the quiet with a low mutter. ‘Did he do that to escape?’ His words slipped out almost unconsciously.
I leaned in closer, my gaze piercing. ‘Escape?’ I echoed, my mind immediately catching fire with the implications.
Lord Damon nodded slowly. ‘The guardian is an enigma, even by our twisted demon standards. No one knows why he’s there, or even if he’s there for a reason. It’s a big ol’ question mark whether he’s playing 4D chess to achieve something or just reacting to intruders like some sort of security system,’ he explained, the lines on his forehead deepening in contemplation.
I sat back, mulling over Damon’s words. ‘So, either he’s the ultimate strategist or merely an instinctual force of nature,’ I summarized, the possibilities swirling in my mind like a vortex.
Lord Damon leaned back in his chair, his expression a mix of frustration and fascination. ‘Yep, and that’s what’s got us all scratching our heads. The guardian’s motivations are as clear as mud in a storm.’
‘It’s like trying to solve a puzzle with missing pieces,’ I added. ‘What about your father’s tales? What did he say?’ Then, realizing the mix-up, I quickly corrected myself. ‘I mean grandpa,’ I interjected.
‘He always painted the guardian as this dutiful creature, loyal to the bone, but lacking a bit in the smarts department. It just did its thing, no discrimination between friend or foe. It was all about chucking whoever got stuck at the border into one of the two worlds,’ Lord Damon explained.
He settled back into his chair, propping an elbow on the armrest. His hand rested against his lips, a frown etching itself on his forehead. ‘The bummer is, your grandpa never spilled the beans about what this creature actually looks like or how much muscle it packs. He just spun it as a bedtime story for a kid,’ he lamented. ‘But considering what you’ve told me, how it went after Beel’s core, it’s a sign that there’s more going on up there, unless Zatan’s pulling the strings behind the scenes,’ he added.
‘Okay, assuming Beel and Zatan managed to rope in the guardian to their team, what’s our move here?’ I asked.
This uncharted territory was a brand-new level of stress for me. I was certain the border played by its own rules, different from both worlds. Plus, if the guardian had the ability to open and slam shut the door between these realms, that spelled bad news bears. Very, very bad news.
He scratched his chin, pondering the mess we found ourselves in. ‘We’re at a crossroads here. If they’ve somehow recruited the guardian, then we’re dealing with a whole new ball game,’ he replied, his words laced with concern.
Lord Damon’s eyes flashed with a mix of determination and worry. ‘And since the guardian got that kind of power, shutting and opening the gates, it means they control the traffic between our worlds. And that’s a colossal problem,’ he pointed out.
I ran a hand through my hair. ‘We’ve got to figure out how to tackle this without setting off an interdimensional catastrophe,’ I mused aloud.
