- Chapter 399 - 399 A Sneak Attack
399: A Sneak Attack 399: A Sneak Attack “A sneak attack?” Elina was shocked.
She quickly took a defensive stance and stepped back ten times.
Without forgetting, she drew the dagger hidden behind her dress.
Her gaze sharpened as she scanned her surroundings.
“Come out.
Don’t be a coward,” she said in a cold, indifferent tone.
There was no answer, as if the attack had been nothing more than an illusion.
But Elina knew the assassin was still hiding.
Suddenly, she sensed a threat from her right side.
She instantly turned her face to the left, and a knife whizzed past her cheek.
The sharp tip grazed her skin, causing a thin line of blood to slide down.
Elina wiped the blood and stared at it.
Her expression darkened as she fixed her gaze on the direction the knife had come from.
“Come out, or I’ll come looking for you,” she warned coldly.
Clap!
Clap!
Clapping echoed from in front of her, accompanied by a man’s laughter.
“Amazing, Your Highness.
My attack was fast and precise, yet you dodged it so easily.
It seems you’re much stronger than the information I received.” A man stepped out from the shadows between the trees.
He was tall and sturdy, with broad shoulders and a narrow waist that gave him a well-proportioned body.
He wore a black coat and a half-face mask shaped like a skull.
His cream-colored hair was slicked neatly back.
If Nolan were here, he would have been shocked-because the man’s hairstyle looked exactly like one from his previous world.
“Who are you?” Elina asked indifferently as she prepared to fight.
“Me?
You don’t need to know, Your Highness.
What matters is that I’ve come to take your life on someone’s orders,” the man replied casually.
“On someone’s orders, huh?” Elina tried to think of who might have sent him.
She suspected one of her brothers, but she couldn’t pinpoint which one.
Was it Cedric?
Or Adalen?
Both felt unlikely.
Cedric was smart and cunning-he wouldn’t use such a crude method.
That left Adalen.
But remembering how the Singularity of Light had been humiliated by one of the Singularity of Chaos’s subordinates at her father’s previous party, it seemed impossible for him to dare something like this.
Could it be… Aldric?
Or even Cassian?
No matter how she thought about it, she couldn’t find the answer.
The man didn’t let her think any longer.
His figure lunged toward her at high speed.
“Since the sneak attack didn’t work, I’ll just kill you directly!” He clenched his right hand into a fist and threw a punch at Elina’s face.
Bang!
His attack missed as Elina crossed her arms to block it.
But the impact was so strong that she was forced back ten steps.
She lowered her arms and glanced at the red marks on her upper arms.
They throbbed with a sharp, stinging pain.
Fortunately, she had never slacked off in her training, even after being transferred to this town.
Her physical strength was still at its peak.
“Oh?
You can block my punch?” The man seemed surprised, then grinned.
“But that was only my weak attack.
I’ll keep attacking you again and again!” Whoosh!
His figure vanished like a shadow.
Two seconds later, he appeared beside her without making a single sound.
Elina leaned her body backward, and his strike sliced past her.
The force of his fist made the air tremble.
If that had hit her, her face would’ve been shattered for sure.
Taking advantage of his bad position, Elina twisted the dagger in her hand and stabbed it into his arm.
Srck!
“Good attack, but not enough!” He spun around and punched Elina in the stomach.
This time, she couldn’t dodge, and her body was sent flying twenty meters away.
Boom!
Her back slammed into a wooden house and shattered it.
The sharp pain made her let out a soft groan.
“Ugh…” Elina tried to stand, but the man didn’t give her any chance.
He tightened his left fist and punched toward her face.
Elina quickly dodged and shifted five meters to the side.
Boom!
His blow crushed the remains of the wooden house.
Without a second thought, Elina kept retreating until she felt the distance was safe enough.
“Hah… hah…” Elina gasped as she held her stomach.
“This man is very dangerous.” His punch had caused her internal organs to shift slightly.
Thankfully, she wore light armor under her clothes in case something like this happened.
The man rubbed his left fist while chuckling softly.
“What’s wrong, Your Highness?
Did my attack hurt you?
If so, I apologize.
Oops!
I forgot I came here to kill you, so I don’t need to apologize.” He tapped his forehead as if he had just remembered.
Elina didn’t fall for his provocation.
Besides learning martial arts, she had also trained her mind.
Her brother once told her that enemies who liked to talk were psychopaths.
They enjoyed cruelty-breaking their target’s mind before killing them.
The only way to deal with them was to ignore their nonsense and stay focused.
Elina took a deep breath and cut her dress skirt.
Instantly, her shapely thighs wrapped in white stockings were exposed.
The skirt was getting in her way, so she had to remove it.
“Oh?
So you have quite a sexy figure, Your Highness,” the man said, licking his lips.
“How about I taste you first before I kill you?” His disgusting words made Elina furious.
Even though she knew it was just provocation, she hated people who looked at women with such filthy eyes.
Her purple eyes flashed coldly as she shot forward at high speed.
She spun her body and aimed the tip of her dagger at the man’s neck.
But the man dodged it with ease.
He countered with a punch to Elina’s stomach.
Elina avoided it as well.
The two of them clashed fiercely.
At a glance, it looked evenly matched-but anyone sharp enough could see the truth.
The man had the upper hand.
In both physical strength and combat skill, he was far above Elina.
“All right, enough playing around!
Now, accept your fate!” The man opened his right palm and struck Elina in the stomach.
Elina’s eyes widened as sharp pain exploded through her body.
She was thrown fifteen meters back and crashed onto the ground.
“Ugh…” Elina groaned, clutching her stomach.
Her face turned pale, and cold sweat slid down her neck.
“Who is this person?
Why is he so strong?” She whispered in fear.
Even the two assassins Zarak had hired earlier hadn’t overwhelmed her this easily.
The man in front of her was far stronger than them.
Just as he was about to deliver his final attack, a woman formed from pure shadow emerged at Elina’s side.
“You’re really brave, little demon.
Just like your emperor-you’re just another coward who only dares attack the weak.”
