The Grand Duke's Son Is A Heretic - Chapter 463
Chapter 463: 463
Rein took over Nightstar and solidified his position completely.
The sudden change struck every kingdom and every court across the continent.People could only stare at the sky and their fates in disbelief, not knowing where the world was heading now.
Curfew was imposed and all internal troubles were dealt with brutally by Nightstar.
Rumors spread like fire and uncertainty thickened the air.
The ones who felt the impact most were the soldiers stationed at the borders of the Heizen
Empire.
Until yesterday their orders were clear.
Attack. Push. Break through.
Heizen had been defending constantly without resting and Nightstar was already close to breaching their eastern line.
But right when their blades were about to bite deep into enemy territory, the King changed.
No one knew if they should continue fighting or stop.
While generals hesitated and waited for new orders, another command arrived and shook the land harder than the last.
Nightstar declared a full scale war on the Heizen Empire.
The scale was massive.
The eastern territories of Heizen collapsed like dry wood struck by a storm. Villages burned, towns fell and banners changed.
Heizen’s eastern plains turned into a battlefield painted with fires and corpses.
The northern region however stood firm.Thick forests acted as natural walls and Veydrin held the defense like an unbreakable pillar.
On top of that the Ice Elves joined hands with them.Their icy magic froze lakes, roads and enemy paths until Nightstar troops lost numbers in cold more than in blade.
If there was one race that hated Nightstar even more than humans, it was the Ice Elves.Their grudge ran deep through generations and they fought like wolves protecting a grave.
The joint resistance protected the north, but the east was still in chaos. If eastern lines kept falling the heart of Heizen would be exposed soon.
To the south of Heizen lay the Kelo Empire.
Skirmishes scattered across the southern border too.
Kelo was not attacking fiercely, however they were pressing just enough to keep Heizen on edge..They wanted Heizen to be unable to withdraw soldiers from the west or reinforce the east.
Politics was sinking deeper into disorder.
Except for the Dukes, control over nobles was weakening because Emperor Edward remained silent. His silence left cracks that widened with every passing day.
…..
“WHAAATTTT!”
Roosevelt screamed while reading the reports. His voice shook the pillars of the hall.
“HOW..”
His eyes bulged and the papers trembled in his hands. He stood frozen like a broken statue, unable to believe the scale of events.
Edward clicked his tongue lightly from the throne.
“You need to stop with those reactions. An Emperor needs to be steady. Just look at your sister.”
Roosevelt turned around sharply.
Martina stood beside him like a stone statue. Her brows were tightened, her face pale. She looked calm at first… until she suddenly tilted sideways like she lost her soul.
“Father,” Roosevelt muttered.
“Yes.”
“She seems to pass out.”
“….”
Kael, who stood near Martina blinked, then poked her shoulder gently.Martina wobbled then fell limp like jelly.
Kael moved quickly and caught her in his arms. He lifted her carefully and held her against his chest.
Edward and Ramos watched this with oddly satisfied expressions, like this was normal.
‘Good Boy!’Ramos gave a thumbs up.
“Can we focus on the issue?” Roosevelt snapped sharply.
“And I reacted like that because I am in a familiar place,” he added while glaring.
Kael adjusted Martina carefully on her seat and sat down beside her.
“Hey Mam.. I know you are awake,” he whispered near her ear.
Martina’s eyelids twitched. She opened her eyes slowly and smiled faintly.
“Can you even pretend?”
“Why pretend when you aren’t even blushing? Most girls would be embarrassed.”
“Uh.. so you want me to act like a cute innocent girl in love? You like those cute girls. But if I remember correctly, all the girls around you are valiant and cold.”
Kael paused. His lips tightened and his thoughts rolled around fast.
‘Now that I think she is correct… All the women I liked were valiant and cold. Do I have a strange fetish?’
‘Am I the abnormal one?’
BAM!
Roosevelt slammed the floor with his foot and desk shook.
“Can.. Can we please focus?” he gritted out, jaw tight.
Martina sat up properly now, face steady, emotion hidden.
She asked calmly, “Yeah… how did they take over?”
Edward looked at Pleard and gave a nod. Pleard stepped forward and answered clearly.
“While Nightstar was preparing for revenge, Abyss Cult started forming allies by offering benefits in shadows.”
“Rein’s partnership with Nightstar happened because of this. The two have done numerous heinous things. Especially sacrifices.”
Kael frowned and leaned forward.
“Don’t people know that Abyssal Cult has a hand in it? They should revoke support isn’t it?”
Pleard shook his head slowly.
“They don’t know. Do you think such information is made public? Only higher ups like us are aware.”
Kael leaned back silently. His fingers tapped the table. Martina crossed her arms. Roosevelt clenched his jaw tighter.
“So what is our next step?” Roosevelt asked, voice low, heavy and determined.
“We can’t let this go.”
Silence spread for a moment.
Flames from the fireplaces flickered along the walls and cast long shadows behind them. Footsteps of guards echoed faintly through the corridor outside.
The Empire was on the edge of war and decisions taken in this room could shift the balance of the continent.
Pleard looked down at the war map spread before them.
The frontlines marked red, blue, and black threads intertwined like veins of chaos.Borders tightened, alliances cracked, and threats grew like poison through the land.
He exhaled.
“Our next step…” he whispered.
Edward raised his eyes. His voice was calm and deep like steel.
Edward slowly turned toward Roosevelt, his expression calm yet sharp. His voice was steady.
“Everyone said I have been resisting it passively. Do you know why?”
A deep silence followed the question.
