Chapter 291: Chapter 49
The Author.

The Creator of all that ever was, all that is, and all that will be.

The first and final consciousness, beyond logic, beyond creation, beyond eevn time.

His form could not be described by the language of mortals or gods. To the highest beings, his body appeared as an endless cascade of digits, a living ocean of one and zero.

To others, he was a void shaped like something beyond comprehension.

He sat within the silence between realities, in a realm that existed before existence.

In his hand, he held a book. Its cover shimmered between white and black, forming symbols that no mind could read without breaking.

“The God of Underworld.”

The Author watched, motionless, as words appeared across its pages without his touch.

Sentences carved themselves into the paper like divine etchings, forming events, dialogues, and choices that he had not written.

It was impossible. Unacceptable. Yet fascinating.

A character had begun writing his own story.

Hades. The defier. The one who transcended his own script.

The Author leaned closer, binary eyes flickering with faint amusement.

For eons, he had written endless tales. Worlds rose and fell with every flick of his will. Heroes ascended, gods perished, stars burned out in his boredom.

Yet this one, this small fragment of his imagination, had begun to rebel.

A faint ripple of emotion stirred within the Author.

Curiosity, and amusement.

How could something he made act without his hand guiding it? He wanted to know. That’s why he left the book that should’ve ended long ago, blank, he wanted to see how would the characters write their own story.

The Author found himself… entertained. It had been so long since he last felt that. Hades was a perfect anomaly, the first creation to step outside the boundaries of his programming.

However, no matter how curious or fascinated he was, it doesn’t change the fact that he was already bored.

With a sigh, he released the book.

It did not fall, the book hovered before him, suspended in the void like a dying sun, then with a lazy flick of his finger, he sent it drifting into the vast empty space.

Then, countless eyes seems to have woken up.

Shadows coiled from the void, long and fluid, their edges twisting like broken code, they crawled toward the book, merging with it.

The cover pulsed once, and the darkness was gone.

The author simply pick another book.

Inside The God of Underworld, the skies tore open.

From beyond the void, countless abominations emerged, beings of shifting flesh, writhing tentacles, and infinite eyes that saw too much.

They were the Outer Ones, the Author’s discarded thoughts, the echoes of his boredom made manifest.

They had smelled it—the boredom of their Creator.

They had come to feast upon his creation.

Outer ones already existed in the book, but they were not so dedicated in feeding it, taking the time to feast upon it, page after page.

But with the arrival of these new outer ones, everything completely changed.

World after world vanished into their maws.

Galaxies turned to liquid shadow.

Universes, once ruled by radiant gods, were devoured in screams.

Across the boundless sea of existence, the entire creation trembled.

Every Pantheon, from the highest heavens to the lowest spiritual planes, felt the shift.

The very laws that sustained reality quaked as a force beyond comprehension swept through the entirety of the existence.

From the mountains of Kunlun to the sacred halls of Yomi, from the golden spires of Asgard to the halls of Celts, all eyes turned toward the expanding void.

On a certain universe, solar god burned his divine body to hold back a single tendril, only to be swallowed whole.

A pantheon of war gods fell silent as their heavens turned black.

Mortal civilizations watched their skies crack open, seeing only eyes staring down at them before everything turned white.

*

Chinese Pantheon.

In the Jade Palace, silence ensued the hall, the celestial court was gathered, each deity radiating divine brilliance.

The Jade Emperor stood motionless, his expression grim as he gazed into the heavens, where the stars flickered like dying embers.

“The Heavenly Dao themselves are shaking,” murmured Nezha, his spear trembling in his grasp. “Those…’aliens’ have become relentless.”

Beside him, Guanyin closed her eyes, the lotus beneath her feet wilted as she said. “At this moment, we really need the help of the Great Saints.”

The Jade Emperor spoke, his voice was low and heavy. “No, we need to rally our Heavenly Soldiers and gather all immortals and reinforce the border of our world.”

On a secluded dimension, on a grand palace, Nuwa, who was meditating, opened her eyes, gazing into the beyond.

*

In the Shinto Pantheon.

In Takamagahara, the realm of the kami, Amaterasu sat on her throne, her light dimming as she gaze into the void.

“What is happening!?” Susanoo demanded, storm clouds crackling around him. “What happened to those things!? Why did those things gone insane and devouring universes in droves?”

“I don’t know either,” Tsukuyomi whispered, his voice barely audible. “But something seems to have agitated them.”

Amaterasu’s eyes reflected the encroaching void, the entire constellations flickered out within moments.

“This is dangerous,” she said. “Tsukiyomi, I want you to use all you have to shroud our universe from the void.”

Tsukiyomi nodded, “No problem. I won’t let even a single spark be seen from the outside.”

Susanoo snorted, “Do we really have to keep hiding? If those things really decided on devouring all existence, no matter how well we hide, they will find us. Isn’t it better to just fight to the death?”

Tsukiyomi remained silent, but he agreed with his words.

Amaterasu simply stared at the beyond, her thoughts unknown to her brothers.

*

The Celtic Pantheon.

On the palace of the Lugh, the current leader of the Celts, sat on his throne, looking worriedly at the sky.

“This is insane. Countless universes vanishes every second,” he said, voice heavy with dread. “Those outer ones have gone insane.”

Below the throne, Morrigan’ hands glowed faintly as she traced runes into the air, with each symbol burned for a heartbeat before vanishing into the mist.

She shook her head, “The scrying spell I left in some minor pantheons have all vanished. They should truly have been devoured.”

Nuada, the first king of Celtic Pantheon, slammed his fist on a table, his silver arm gleaming, as he spoke, “Then we must be ready to fight! We are warriors before we are gods, and we will show those things not to underestimate us!”

But Dagda, the previous king before Lugh, shook his head. “Although I agree, there is no point in fighting an unwinnable battle. For now, we must forge an alliance to strengthen ourselves.”

Lugh gripped his armrest, thinking of Odin’s words when he visited him before.

*

The Egyptian Pantheon.

In Heliopolis, beneath the eternal light of Ra, the gods of Egypt gathered, the sun above them flickered, its light no longer steady.

“Ra, this is not good,” said Thoth, his voice carrying unease. “We need to hurry and join in on the Norse and Greek alliance, or else…”

“I know,” Ra looked at his sun, which was already starting to dim.

Anubis looked on, his eyes narrowing. “Even the Duat is trembling. The souls of the dead are screaming, I am certain that it won’t be long before those things found us. And this time, we won’t be able to deal with them like we did before.”

“Hmph, those damn angels…” Thoth muttered, his hand trembling as he clenched his fist. “It’s all their fault that we are in such in a situation! We could’ve fully recovered by now if they did not attack us!”

Ra sighed, waving his hand, “There is no need to point fingers now. We are weakened, and blaming the angels won’t change the fact.”

He stold from his throne and looked towards Thoth, “Go, I believe that it won’t be long before Odin and Nyx attempt to fuse their universe. Observe them, and if they succeed, immediately tell them that we will join them.”

*

The Mesopotamian Pantheon.

In the divine city of Nippur, Enlil stared at the darkening skies, his hand curled to a fist.

“Those ugly things have really gone too far,” grunted Ishtar. “Hmph, they are more annoying than that fellow Gilgamesh.”

Ea, the god of wisdom, placed his hand over the cosmic map. “They are more than just annoying. They are terrifying. Minor pantheons around us that we are in contact with have already been devoured. It won’t be long before they found us.”

Enlil clenched his fist. “…We need to ensure our survival.”

Ea looked up, his ancient eyes hollow and dull, “I don’t think there is survival that can be found in this reality. We cannot even fight a single fragment, not to mention a true body of an outer one.”

Enlil stared at him, “…There is someone who can.”

*

The Mesoamerican Alliance.

In the heart of Tamoanchan, Quetzalcoatl unfurled his wings, staring into the sky where the sun should have been.

“Ah, how disastrous this is,” he said. “We no longer have any chances of survival.”

Huitzilopochtli stood beside him, drenched in the blood of sacrificed stars. “Don’t give up yet. No matter what, we are gods. We must maintain our pride and dignity even in death.”

The Mayan god Itzamna whispered to the heavens, “The Inca gods have already been devoured. Guess we will be joining them soon, huh?”

Quetzalcoatl shook his head, “No, we might have a chance.”

Kukulkhan, the feathered serpent of Mayan pantheon, stood beside Quetzalcoatl, “Indeed. The Greco-Nordic alliance. If we can join them, perhaps we can survive.”

*

The Hindu Pantheon.

In the cosmic ocean, Vishnu stirred from his rest, his thousand eyes opened as the lotus of creation withered upon his navel.

Brahma trembled. “The outer ones from the void… They have become restless. They have devoured more universes in this era than the previous ones combined.”

Shiva stood in silence. “….There is nothing we can do about it. For now, we must focus on the survival of our universe.”

Kali, Goddess of Death, laughed softly, though there was no mirth in it. “So even the Great Shiva actually has something he cannot do.”

Vishnu rose, his voice echoing through all planes. “For now, let us strengthen our defences and make sure that we can defend ourselves.”

*

The Norse Pantheon.

In Asgard, thunder cracked endlessly as thor stood before his father, his hand gripped tightly on his hammer.

“Father!” he roared. “The Unification must be done in a hurry! We won’t be able to handle another invasion!”

Odin’s single eye gazed into the abyss.

“I know, but we must finish rebuilding our realm before we can proceed with the plan.”

Frigg grasped his arm. “Odin… Rebuilding the nine realms is not easy. We barely rebuilt two more realms.”

Odin nodded, and continued, “I have a plan… Don’t worry.”

Frigg still looked worried, but she nodded, trusting her husband who had never once led the Norse astray.

*

Across the infinite, the Pantheons prayed, screamed, and fought as the darkness advanced.

But none could stop it.

The outer ones have already started to erase this reality, and the author merely turned his attention to another book.
