Chapter 437: A thought suddenly crossed her mind
“Sam,” Diane called. “You know how capable Alice is, so why don’t you want to give her the gate?”

Samson looked at her and then closed his eyes. Right, he nearly forgot Alice was Diane’s friend. So she would side with her, especially knowing how capable she was.

To anyone watching, it seemed unreasonable that Samson didn’t want to hand the dungeon over to Alice. She already promised to give him the rewards but he refused, almost as if he was worrying about her qualifications and her safety.

That certainly wasn’t it.

Then, was he going to give the excuse that he wanted his guild members to gain experience?

If so, there were still a lot of unexplored low-level gates in the country. Since Alice has been venturing outside, the gates that were stable in the country weren’t touched by her.

So, he could use that to help his guild members improve.

Then, if he wasn’t going to give that excuse, what more could he say?

Samson did not respond for a while, and as if engaging in a silent war with the furrowing Alice deep in thought, he kept his eyes on her.

Diane sighed.

Honestly, there was some part of her boyfriend she just couldn’t understand. Maybe it was because he was older than her by a couple of years. Adults definitely think in a strange way.

“The reason I don’t want to just give her the gate is because we need to understand this unnatural phenomenon.” He said. “This gate spawned in a building and I don’t think I’ve heard of cases like that before.”

Alice opened her eyes as she heard that.

‘Are we ruling out the school incident then?’

During the school gate break, there were a few gates that spawned inside the school. Well, that, too, wasn’t natural, and the size of the gates in the field was abnormal for their difficulty as well.

Anyway, the gates couldn’t be analyzed because they disappeared once she forcefully closed the gate in their classroom. Thus, they couldn’t analyze things carefully.

“Ah,” A thought suddenly crossed her mind.

Since she couldn’t explore the suspicious gate, she could just close it, right?

It had been a while since she practiced forcing a gate closed, but she was sure she still had it.

But then there was the downside. It required demonic energy, so she would be spreading her demonic energy, and if there were more traces around them, the traces would be distorted by her own energy.

It was quite tricky, but maybe it was better than letting someone enter the gate and then die from something unforeseen.

“Do you have to study the gate, though?” Alice suddenly asked and they turned to her. “I mean, it’s not like you’ll be able to predict when one of these things spawns if you do. That’s why it’s an unprecedented spawning. It’s not meant to be predicted.”

Alice thought that someone like Samson, who looked so bulky and had a guild called the Brute guild, would live by some kind of motto like, ‘whatever gets in the way, just smash it.’

But contrary to that, Samson had quite the down-to-earth motto, it would seem. He used his brain more than his brawn showed.

‘I think it would’ve been easier if he were more brawn than Brain, though,’ she thought sheepishly.

“Anyway, I’m not leaving it to you and I won’t change my mind.”

“Not even if I take Diane hostage,” Alice asked, suddenly disappearing and appearing behind Diane.

“What?!” Diane exclaimed in disbelief.

“I know you won’t hurt her anyway.” He said, folding his arms and Alice sighed.

He was so stubborn.

“Fine.” She said. ‘I’ll just have Gramps deal with this. I already asked nicely, so don’t hate me too much when absolute authority that you can’t decline asks for it,’ she thought.

“You’re just so stubborn,” Diane muttered, and then Alice hooked her arm over her neck.

“Anyways, you win, but I’m still taking Diane hostage.” She said, grinning. “Let me know if you change your mind. I’ll bring her back well packaged.”

“What are you talking about?” Diane asked, but before she knew it, Alice had leaped into the air with her and Leo, who glanced at the gate for a while longer, narrowed his eyes, and followed.

Alice finally placed down the ‘kidnapped’ Diane, whose eyes had spirals.

“You… You son of a…” She wretched, having the urge to throw up but she managed to swallow it back and said, “I’m okay,”

“No one asked,” Alice said, grinning and she felt irked.

“You’re being a big jerk right now, asshole.” She cursed and Alice tilted her head.

“Right, right. Hurry up and come in.” She said, walking forward. She had been waiting for Leo but as soon as she sensed he was very close by, she started walking into the building.

“Where is this?”

“Wow, did the flight cause you to lose your memory?” Alice asked, glancing back as she walked.

Diane looked around and then noticed that this was Alice’s building.

“Ah, did it get renovated or something?” She asked. “I almost didn’t recognize it.”

“It seems like it did,” Alice answered, her eyes steady on the front. “But it still looks the same to me though. Maybe cause I’ve been here for a while.”

“You haven’t been back for a while, though.”

“Still,” she glanced over her shoulder and smiled. “There’s no place like home, right?”

Diane saw this smile and let out a little sigh.

This punk… Who said she could smile like that and get away with it?

Diane hurried and threw her arm around her neck.

“Right, right. No place like home.” She said. “We have a lot of catching up to do, you know. I have a lot of things to say and you probably have a lot to say to me.”

“A lot?” Alice tilted her head. “But why can’t I remember a single one?”

Once again, Diane felt irked. Was it fun messing with her?

Seeing Diane’s reaction, Alice laughed.

“I’m just joking.”

“You better be.” Diane hissed. “Then, we should probably have a sleepover.”
