Chapter 435: You’ll need to get a team here
“I swear, I’m no hero. This is just Alice rubbing off on me.”

Her gloves glowed with a golden light and enveloped her hand to her elbow, transforming into her gauntlets, and then, with a swift movement, she leaped and got on top of the counter to see what was going on.

Just as she thought, the sound was coming from there, and what she saw made her frown.

Two green creatures were gnawing at an unrecognizable body. It was in such an awful state, and there was blood everywhere.

These creatures were busy snacking with no care. Two of them.

They were green.

Goblins?

Well, they looked like it but she was sure they weren’t goblins.

Rather, they were Gnolls.

And she was more than certain when they hadn’t reacted to her presence or her voice.

Gnolls relied on their sight, even if they had just one eye, and the scent of blood when going after their target. Their hearing isn’t good.

If it were, they would’ve attacked as soon as Diane asked if anyone was there.

Diane clicked her tongue seeing the body that had been eaten to such a disgusting state. They had even taken out the heart as well as other organs and eaten quite a lot.

“I hope you guys like your meal roasted,” she said, positioning her hand in front of her and then without a single hesitation, yelled out. “Hell’s flame.”

Fire gushed out of her palm and engulfed them.

They let out irritating and struggling shrieks.

She leaped off the counter and then clicked her tongue.

For monsters to get in without anyone outside knowing, didn’t that mean there was a gate inside this building?

Possibly… Her eyes trailed to the staff-only door… In there.

“I can’t deal with this,” she said as she took out her phone and called Samson. “Okay, so I was on my walk and nothing happened, really. It was even snowing, quite lovely.”

“Alright. Then do you want me to come pick you up?” He asked but she shook her head.

“Actually, that’s just the first half of what happened.” She said, smiling awkwardly. “So, after I stopped walking, I decided to go into a coffee shop and get some coffee but there was no one. And you’ll never guess what I saw.”

Samson remained silent. He didn’t like where this was going. Her voice sounded like she was excited, but he could feel something aside from that excitement. Impatience.

Still, she wanted to start her words from the start to the end despite the feeling of urgency.

“Diane,” he called and she pursed her lips. “Where are you?”

His intuition told him something had happened and if he did not hurry there, she would get pushed into something against her will. Something dangerous.

After getting her address, he rushed out and found her tapping her feet outside with her arms folded, clearly worried.

“Diane,” he called and she immediately turned her head.

“Good, you’re here. You… You’ll need to get a team here. At least one team or two… I don’t know. Just enough to take care of that thing inside.” She said, pointing at the cafe’s entrance.

He had not noticed it when he rushed to her but now that he had calmed down after seeing she was safe, he sniffed the smoke mixed with the stench of burning flesh in the air.

He turned and found it coming from the coffee shop.

Wait, she didn’t kill someone, did she?

“Diane,” he turned to her. “…was there a fight?” He asked, his face looking serious and she tilted her head.

“What?”

She was a bit confused, but then she finally understood what he meant and punched his chest.

“Gosh, do you think I’d go around killing people?” She asked and he patted the place she punched.

“Then, what happened?” He asked.

“You didn’t even let me finish what I was saying on the phone.” She said, raising her hand to start all over but he urged her.

“Just get to the point where you walked into the shop, darling.” He said and she blushed.

He didn’t need to call her that to make her rush. But it did serve its purpose.

“Ahem,” she cleared her throat despite her flushed cheeks. “So, I heard some disturbing sounds. Though I don’t know what was going on, I had a hunch and took out my gauntlets.”

“What did you find?”

“Gnolls,” she said and he froze, his eyes narrowing in shock.

“What?”

“There were two of them so I took them out. That’s where this smoke is coming from.”

“You’re not hurt or anything, are you?” He asked and she shrugged.

“Do I look hurt to you?”

That didn’t seem to be the case so he was assured. Still, he should’ve gone with her in the end. What if there were more, and she had been ambushed? Gnolls were as cunning as goblins but more dangerous, despite sharing a similar body size.

People usually mistake a gnoll for a goblin with its back to them, but once it turns around, you can’t even mistake it anymore, since goblins have two eyes and long evil looking nose but Gnolls don’t have a nose and have one large eye, that some even think they’re a lesser hybrid of a goblin and a cyclops or troll since those two monsters have only one eye.

Anyway, it was very dangerous.

“Diane, you should head home for now.”

“Ah, it’s a very good idea that I won’t argue with.” She said, giving him a thumbs up with a delighted expression. “You take care of it, mister S-class.”

He nodded and called a taxi but as she got in, she realized she hadn’t told him about the fact that there might be a gate inside the shop.

‘Hm, he’s been in the business for a while so he should probably have guessed that much,’ she shrugged. That was the perk of having a guild master as a boyfriend.

And an S-class awakened too.

‘Though, I hope he doesn’t do anything reckless.’ she thought, looking out the window.

But then, she caught sight of a family silhouette.

“Ah, stop the cab,” she yelled right away and the driver hit the brakes out of shock.

“Young lady, you can’t yell like that when we’re in the middle of the road,” he said but when he looked back, she was gone, leaving only a few change on the chair. “Young lady?” The confused cab driver called.

Diane rushed out of the car at the speed of light, fearing she might miss them with even a second of delay.

She finally stopped, panting as she said,

“Ah, you’re so slippery, Alice.”

Alice, who had just arrived in town turned her head.

“Ah, I knew I sensed a familiar presence nearby,” Alice said, grinning. “It’s been a while, Diane.”

Diane saw that it was really her and bowed her head, feeling relieved as well as a bit of frustration.

“It’s been a while?” She raised her head, expressing her frustration with her twisted facial expression. “Is that what you say after disappearing for months? And without a word at that,”

Alice scratched her face, her eyes rolling away in guilt.

“I didn’t exactly disappear,” she muttered with puckered lips and Diane laughed.

“Yes, right, right. You were on the news all the time, so I wouldn’t exactly say you disappeared, but… Alice,” her expression softened a bit and she sighed. “…you could’ve at least picked up the damn phone.”

Alice laughed.

“Yeah, that’s the least I could’ve done.” And before she knew it, Diane hugged her.

It was a warmer welcome than she thought, coming from her friend.

“I’m glad to see you in person though. Coming back is all that matters in the end.”

“Yeah,” Alice said, raising her hand to hug back when Leo cleared his throat.

“Ah,” Diane shifted her head to look at the corner where Leo was standing. “How did I notice that handsome face right next to you?”

“Not the first time,” Leo said, as if he was used to it. It wasn’t just her. People usually don’t even know he’s standing right there despite how ‘loud’ his appearance was.

But he probably did it on purpose, hiding his presence so he’d be less conspicuous.

“It’s been a while, Leo. I see you’ve been taking quite the care of Alice.” She said, grinning sheepishly but Alice looked at her puzzled. What was that supposed to mean?

“If you mean he feeds me well, then yes,” she said, but Diane clicked her tongue, shaking her head in pity.

These two just don’t get it.

“Anyway, you said you just came back? Then what are you doing in this side of town?” Diane asked and then pointed in the opposite direction. “Isn’t your house that way?”

“Ah, right,” Alice said.

“Oh my,” Diane placed her hand over her mouth in disbelief. “You didn’t come all the way to visit me first, did you?”

“Gosh, when will you let go of your narcissism?” Alice asked, pushing her face away but Diane kept wiggling her body, convinced that Alice cared for her that much. “I’m not here for you but it’s nice to see your face.”

“Tch,” she folded her arms. “Then, what are you here for?”

“Well—”

*Boom*

A huge explosion interrupted her, as smoke flared into the air and the ground trembled.
