Chapter 483: Love like newly weds (2)
After what felt like hours, Alessandra laid on the cold library floor, staring up at the ceiling as she thought of how she got herself in this position.
“You swindled me,” Alessandra spoke. “It’s nearing time for Isabelle and Lily to return. I haven’t gotten any of the work I needed done.”
Edgar propped himself up so he could look down at Alessandra.
“Why rush when tomorrow is another day and we have nothing to do? I am thinking of asking Penelope to let her sisters stay with her tomorrow. Wouldn’t that be fun?” Edgar asked, seriously considering it.
Alessandra didn’t dare look in Edgar’s direction. “No, it wouldn’t be fun. I can already feel my back aching, and all I can think of is having this room cleaned. While you have not changed much from your younger days, I have.”
“Still, you manage to keep up with me. What are you doing?” Edgar asked, looking at where Alessandra pinched him. “That doesn’t hurt me.”
Alessandra turned on her side so she could face Edgar. “We’ve been married for long enough for you to tell me all your secrets? Why is it that it doesn’t hurt you?”
“Why would it hurt when you aren’t strong enough to properly pinch me? You hold back when you want to hurt me. You are too sweet,” Edgar said, holding Alessandra’s hand to lift so he could leave a kiss.
“Sweet? I was trying to hurt you so I could get some payback. I’ll have a lot of work to do tomorrow and the day after. We cannot trouble Penelope to watch her sisters. She was robbed of alone time with Tyrion,” Alessandra said.
Edgar rolled on his back as his mood turned sour.
Alessandra poked her fingers at Edgar’s chest. “With how it is going, Lily will soon marry, so it will only be Isabelle with us. While I am happy they are leaving to start their own homes, I am a bit sad. I am so used to their company.”
Alessandra wished her children would stay a little, just a bit more.
“They will be back here in no time, asking for something. We could never hide from any of them. Give it time, and you’ll be forcing them back to their homes,” said Edgar.
“Perhaps I might. I have heard from other ladies that it was hard at first to get used to their quiet homes, but they now enjoy the peace. Others don’t know what to do with themselves since their children have always been their focus. Do you think we would be bored eventually?”
“No. We’ve always enjoyed each other’s company, and as you have seen, there is always some sort of drama to trouble us. We will be fine,” Edgar assured Alessandra.
Edgar knew that their home was going to be full again, whether it be with their children or grandchildren.
“In the future, I would not mind if they leave their children here and go enjoy themselves with their spouses for a few days,” Alessandra said, excited by the thought of little ones running around.
Edgar groaned. “We’ve already done our part in raising children.”
“Yes, but they would be our grandchildren. Does it not excite you to think of our children one day experiencing the joys of having children?” Alessandra asked.
“I don’t know what joys you speak of,” Edgar muttered.
Alessandra gave Edgar a nudge at his side. “You cannot fool me, Edgar. You enjoy being a father. I remember quite well how you stuck by Elijah’s side during his first few days in this world. You acted like he would disappear should you blink.”
“You spoiled all of them far more than you needed to. We are fortunate not to have children who think the world owes them all that they want. I hear that feeling increases when you have grandchildren. It will be lovely,” said Alessandra.
Edgar turned his head to look at Alessandra. “You will not be upset to be called grandmother?”
Alessandra laughed. “I am not like your mother. I don’t mind having such a title. Can you imagine a little one coming running to us when they can’t get something from their parents or miss us?”
“I look forward to our children experiencing how stressed we are. I hope they experience the times we woke to hear that they had snuck out. It will be lovely,” Edgar agreed.
“See, I knew you would agree eventually. We must arrange a sit-down with Kael to know more of his intentions. I am not the most excited that Lily will go far, but I know she will be safe. We will have to do a lot of travelling in the future,” Alessandra said as she sat up.
Edgar remained on the floor, watching as Alessandra got dressed. “You enjoy it when we travel,” he said.
“I do. We should plan a trip so you can visit Rafael. I know you tend to miss his company. I wouldn’t mind if you were to go on a trip alone with Tobias to see Rafael. You deserve a moment alone with your friends so you can act like boys once more,” Alessandra suggested.
“A long ride with Tobias is the same as torturing me. He would speak from the moment we depart to the moment we arrive. I could consider it as long as I get my hands on something to make him sleep during the ride,” Edgar said, thinking it over.
Alessandra regretted coming up with the idea. “Edgar, while Tobias is no longer the king, it doesn’t mean that you can hurt him. Tobias is excited to be away from his duties, so can you please put on a smile and spend time with him?”
“I can for the right price,” said Edgar.
“You cannot do it solely because you want something out of me. You must do it because you are a good friend,” Alessandra said, pulling her dress away from Edgar so he could not keep her in the room.
“You have already invited him to our home, and I have agreed to entertain him. That is enough. Can’t you stay with me a little longer?” Edgar asked, holding onto her dress.
“No, I- They are home,” Alessandra froze. “I knew it. I knew it was time for them to return.”
Edgar released Alessandra’s dress. “I told you we shouldn’t let our children near Tobias when they were younger.”
Alessandra was in a rush to get dressed, but she stopped to get an explanation. “Why?” She asked.
“Neither one of us is loud. Where do you think they got it from?” Edgar questioned, already knowing the source.
It was from none other than Tobias.
