Chapter 470: New beginnings (2)
Damien was puzzled by the recent turn of events.

When Penelope came outside to yell at Tyrion, the servants all thought she would stay to convince him to get off the roof, but instead, Penelope asked for a chair and sat under the cool shade of a tree in the garden.

“Has he fallen yet?” Penelope asked, then placed a cherry in her mouth.

Damien looked up at the roof. “It doesn’t appear so,” he answered.

“How unfortunate,” Penelope replied, but she didn’t mean it.

Penelope was upset that Tyrion had not gotten down from the roof after seeing everyone be concerned about his well-being.

“My husband will not get down from the roof because he thinks he is well-protected from getting hurt. Just like how he placed himself in a position to be shot. If he falls from there, I cannot offer another prince to Lady Hazel. How could I when I don’t have a child of my own to offer?” Penelope rambled.

Penelope set down the book she was trying to distract herself with and looked at the roof, but it was awful timing. She witnessed Tyrion walking around.

Penelope knew it was Tyrion even from a distance because he waved at her.

“If he were to stand on the roof of a tiny home, I wouldn’t stop him, but there are three floors, and there is nothing tied around him should he slip. We are just hoping one of the knights will catch him,” Penelope said, angrily staring at where Tyrion stood.

Penelope suspected he wasn’t doing any work. He was just standing up there to annoy her.

“I envisioned we would be exploring our home together, then take the horses to visit old friends. I cannot do that if he stays up there. Be a dear and get my husband down by any means necessary,” said Penelope.

Damien started to move, but Penelope’s hand blocked him.

“Not you. You will not succeed. I was speaking to Matilda,” Penelope clarified.

Damien looked at Matilda, who moved without question. “If I may speak.”

“You may.”

“You don’t trust the prince being up there, but you think it is safe for Matilda to go get him?” Damien asked, puzzled by Penelope’s train of thought.

“Yes. Matilda is quite wise, Damien. She’s going to get him down without needing to go on the roof because she knows it would scare me to see her up there. She will only step foot on the roof if she’s going to push him,” Penelope said, going back to her book since the matter was being dealt with.

“And that doesn’t scare you?” Damien asked.

Penelope shook her head. “No, because if I go up there, I am going to push him. You must have more faith in Matilda. We grew up together, so she knows what I want. Sometimes I feel she knows what I want before I think of it.”

“I see. May I be excused for a moment?” Damien requested.

“I don’t see why not. There are guards all around,” said Penelope.

Penelope lowered her book as she watched Damien hurry off, but it was low enough to cover her smile.

“Men,” Penelope commented.

Near the door, Damien rushed inside to stop Matilda, only to find her leaning on the wall beside the door.

“You,” Damien said, puzzled as to why she stopped.

“Took you long enough. Have the prince down right away, or I will go up for him. Why is he making her worry on the first day?” Matilda muttered.

“You, did the two of you play me?” Damien asked, realising Penelope’s plan.

“You should think of it more as motivation. Now, you will try harder to convince the prince to get down, so I don’t need to go up. If you cannot do it, then I will go up there, and I do not fear the consequences. Good luck,” Matilda said, leaving Damien to complete his task.

Damien was silent as he watched Matilda walk away. No words were said between the two women, and yet, they were able to make him worry.

Damien pinched the bridge of his nose. It was his fault for being concerned about Matilda whilst knowing that there was nothing in the world which could scare her.

Damien sighed and carried on his way to find Tyrion. He was so upset with being fooled that he might grab Tyrion and pull him off the roof. He found the window which was used to get on top of the mansion and exited to find Tyrion.

“Your highness,” Damien greeted Tyrion.

“I was wondering what poor fool she would send to get me down. Why don’t you have a seat and tell me how upset my wife is?” Tyrion suggested, whilst patting the warm area beside him.

“You must get down before the lady comes up here to push you off. Or worse, she will send Matilda to get you, and I truly believe she won’t fear the punishment. They tricked me into coming up here,” Damien said, still sulking.

“You have to be wise when standing with those two. I am coming down shortly. I’m looking forward to her cute, angry face. The leak was fixed long ago,” Tyrion confessed.

Tyrion only stayed up longer than he needed to just to see Penelope be upset.

“You are purposefully angering and worrying your wife? I understand why she wants to push you. I apologise,” Damien said, getting his apology out of the way before grabbing Tyrion’s leg.

Damien dragged Tyrion down toward the window and almost slipped. Damien stood still before he could take them both tumbling down the roof.

“If you value your life, let go of me,” Tyrion warned Damien.

“I fear you, but I fear the lady’s maid more. You must come down. It is starting to become too windy,” Damien said, keeping his hold on Tyrion.

Tyrion tilted his body to the right to look out at where Penelope once sat. Now she stood, most likely out of fear since Damien almost slipped and would have taken Tyrion down with him.

“It is time to get down. Release me,” Tyrion said, almost tempted to kick Damien.

Damien gently put Tyrion’s foot down and carefully moved to the right to be out of the way.

Tyrion stood and dusted off his clothes. He looked back down at Penelope only to find her walking away from her chair.

“Where is she going?” Tyrion wondered.

“Well, if I were her, I would get back at you by making you worry. Maybe she’s finding somewhere tall to stand on,” Damien concluded.

Damien folded his lips, losing interest in speaking after Tyrion glared at him.
