Chapter 212: Forbidden Curriculum
Maybe he was possessed when he said it.
Or maybe he just didn’t think any better of it, but a string of incriminating and mildly controversial words came spilling out of Riley’s mouth as if a prayer.
“Sure, we really can’t do that. But that just means we can do everything else.”
There was silence.
An awfully dangerous kind of silence.
And only after a moment did the dazed Riley, who was still looking at Kael’s face, realize the exact second the dragon raised a brow.
“!”
“!!!”
What did he even just say?!
The mortified human slapped a hand over his mouth, eyes wide, mind spinning. He wasn’t sure which was worse—the fact that he said it out loud, or that he even thought about it seriously.
Also, wait. What even was the problem with saying such a thing, when he already sounded like the most promiscuous mortal in existence—especially after hearing about Kael’s epic romance?
How bad could it even get, right?
But more than that, surely he also had a point.
Because if one thought about it carefully, dragons, like most beasts, were probably born knowing exactly how to mate. Technically, it was more like knowing exactly how to reproduce and being compelled to do it. But Riley couldn’t help but wonder if they had ever considered just taking pleasure in it?
Then again, maybe the other dragons had, but not his golden dragon.
His golden dragon, who had been dutifully, obsessively, piously looking for a literal egg—that he didn’t even end up finding—for over nine hundred years.
If he thought about it that way… then did that mean Kael hadn’t had any sexual appetite for centuries?
Could that even be possible?
Riley blinked, his brain now clearly running where it shouldn’t. Because if they hadn’t had today’s chaotic conversation, he wouldn’t have learned about the true nature of dragon psychology.
Moreover, he never would’ve learned that, despite that ingrained psychology, the so-called golden paragon of restraint was, in fact, very capable of looking tempted.
But for someone so good at kissing and touching and—
Wow.
Sure enough, the shameless mortal really was thirsty.
Because the apparently filthy mind of one fragile human actually did mental calculations and a few illogical reasonings and came up with an absurd conclusion.
Ahem.
Kael may or may not have actual experience, but surely, if the dragon could enjoy something as human as flan, then there might still be things worth learning from humans, right?
So, as this great dragon’s boyfriend, wouldn’t it technically be his job to introduce Kael to certain human customs?
After all, this was a cultural exchange. Sharing important knowledge. Mutual education between species.
Perfectly innocent.
Totally academic.
Therefore, when the golden dragon finally spoke, his voice deep and calm, “Everything else?” with that pointed look that could have melted steel, the daring human didn’t back down this time.
“Yes,” Riley said, trying very hard not to sound like his body was ready.
“Everything else.”
“Because if actual penetrative intercourse is the issue… then humans, who had long prioritized pleasure just as much as reproduction, would tell you that there should be other ways around it.”
The dragon lord didn’t speak, and so Riley just kept going. His dignity had already gone up in flames long before this conversation, so he might as well say everything now and pass out later.
“I’m not sure how dragons reproduce, because there aren’t exactly guides out there… but for humans, there are even contraceptives to lessen the risk of producing unplanned offspring during intercourse.”
He took a breath, his hands nervously fidgeting as his voice wavered and came out a garbled mess, since he couldn’t believe he was just about to talk about this with his boss.
Yes—his boyfriend, but still his boss.
“But because pleasure is such a big thing, even those contraceptives have flavors now. Then there are toys that can be used for individual or mutual pleasure, and then unique and bizarre positions depending on one’s comfort level.”
The floundering human had barely finished when the dragon’s voice cut through the air, low and sharp.
“And how do you know all that?”
Riley froze.
Huh?
He slowly turned his head to look at Kael, who now looked less like a curious boyfriend and more like someone ready to declare war.
“I—uh—hold on,” Riley stammered, raising both hands in front of him. “For one, there’s sexual education! They actually teach this kind of stuff in school! Maybe not the toys, but the condoms definitely!”
Kael’s expression didn’t change.
“And also,” Riley continued desperately, “with technology and the internet, really, it’s impossible not to see and learn a few things here and there!”
That didn’t seem to convince the dragon either. His stare only deepened.
The human could swear that somewhere nearby, something crackled. “Okay! Fine! I had to check things when I realized I had no issues with liking men!”
The temperature in the room seemed to shift.
The imposing dragon’s next words came slowly, every syllable carrying heat. “Issue with liking men?”
“Yes!” Riley squeaked. “While it’s not a social issue now because that’s normal for magical beings and because of interspecies relations with humans, by default, humans can’t reproduce unless it’s between a male and a female!”
He tried to breathe, tried to keep talking, though the words were tripping over themselves. “S-so, when I realized I didn’t find men repulsive, I figured I had to double check! But before you burn down the poor documents, I swear I just looked! Researched! And at best, just experimented with myself, okay?!”
Kael blinked down at him, the faintest twitch visible at the corner of his mouth.
Riley, red-faced and flustered, tried to recover. “Also! How could you raise hell when you’re clearly too good at kissing?! Surely you’ve learned it from somewhere?!”
The question hung in the air.
For a long, loaded moment, the golden lizard said nothing. Then, with an almost deliberate slowness, the dragon’s hand moved to the back of Riley’s head.
The human stilled.
Kael leaned in slightly, his gaze steady, and said, “Yes. I learned it from you.”
The mortal’s eyelashes fluttered, his expression dazed. “H-huh?”
“Didn’t you take all my first kisses?” Kael asked softly, his head tilted just enough to make his point, the ghost of a smirk threatening to appear.
Riley could only stare back, his thoughts short-circuiting once again.
Oh no.
He’d really done that.
