Chapter 189: Realization
The alarm was turned off before it could vibrate again.

Just in time, thought the dragon lord, whose gaze returned to the human on the floor.

He could still hear the faint voices coming through the orb—someone was talking about area consolidations, another about the changes in data—but to the dragon lord, all of it sounded far away, muted, almost irrelevant.

His current concern was whether Riley would be able to take blood like that, and why, of all things, he felt the need to plop himself down on the cold marble floor.

With a body like that, he shouldn’t even be thinking about sitting on har—

Lick.

It was the faintest contact.

So faint that Kael almost thought he imagined it.

But at that moment, a certain dragon’s mind blanked out only for his brain to continue when the twig looked up.

—d floors.

Right. That was what he’d been thinking. Floors.

Except that wasn’t what he was looking at now.

Because right there, unseen by anyone else but him, was that mouth, those lips, that tongue—and those eyes that met his gaze as if in a trance.

For a split second, Kael thought they’d both stopped breathing.

Riley didn’t even seem aware of how he looked.

Those green eyes were clear and unguarded, filled with a kind of concentration that had no place in something like this. The same human who couldn’t even hold his gaze during breakfast was now staring up at him like he was daring him to move.

Lick.

The second one was tentative, as if afraid of getting it wrong, but it made Kael’s hand flinch, surprised by the feeling of that tongue.

Soft, warm, and wanton. That peeking tongue didn’t even have a personality and yet, Kael, just by looking at it, felt that it was extremely dangerous.

But he could only clench his jaw as more sounds blurred.

Because the human didn’t stop.

Lick. Lick.

The motion was slow, deliberate, and maddeningly focused.

Kael’s leg tensed under the desk, the faintest tremor betraying how tightly he was holding himself together. He took in a breath—sharp, slow, heavy—and it still wasn’t enough.

Riley, meanwhile, looked almost pleased with himself. His brows were slightly furrowed, his mouth soft, his eyes bright with that glimmer of satisfaction that said he thought he’d done something right.

That expression was going to kill him.

Kael exhaled through his teeth, his control hanging by the thinnest thread.

“Haa…!”

The sound escaped before he could stop it—too quiet for the orb to pick up, too raw to be ignored.

Seriously!

But just as expected, the tiny cut didn’t last open for long.

The twig before him paused, confused, lips parting slightly as if bewildered that it had already closed.

It took only one look—one small, disappointed look—and the great dragon lord, who would never have considered giving his blood so easily, suddenly found himself acting faster than thought.

And he did give more.

This time, enough for a thin line of red to slip down his forefinger.

Drip.

Riley’s eyes widened in alarm.

A single drop like that couldn’t be wasted. Absolutely not.

Before it could fall anywhere else, he leaned forward in a rush, catching it with his tongue, and determined not to waste even a fraction of that blood, did what his instincts told him to do.

So he licked.

And then—he sucked.

From the base of Kael’s long forefinger, where the crimson had pooled, up to the very tip.

The motion was slow, unthinking, utterly focused.

Only he hadn’t expected Kael to react the way he did.

Then again, Kael hadn’t reacted the way anyone could’ve predicted since this started.

The dragon lord’s breath caught, his eyes widening slightly as his entire body stiffened and turned a fraction to the side—just enough to make the agents on the other end of the orb blink in confusion.

“!”

“My Lord—?” one of them asked, startled.

But the dragon lord didn’t even glance at the orb, or at them.

His golden eyes were fixed elsewhere, his expression unreadable—unbelievably focused, yet too strained.

“Continue,” he said, voice low.

The agents froze, unsure who that command was meant for. Then, awkwardly, they resumed their conversations, though none of them dared to ask questions.

But it sounded differently to one human.

Like it was meant exactly for him.

And for some reason, it sent a shiver down his spine.

He straightened slightly, his trance suddenly snapped by the sound of that single word echoing in his head.

Then he realized just what he was doing, and how he was doing it. One hand rested on Kael’s forearm for balance, the other greedily supported the dragon lord’s palm, while his lips and tongue were poised for their unholy work.

He was startled by himself, sucking a breath as he realized how screwed he was.

He wanted to apologize, but the moment he looked up, all air left his lungs.

Because Kael’s eyes weren’t just gold anymore.

They had turned molten, slit like a predator’s, locked directly on him.

The look was quiet and unrelenting, and Riley froze under it, fingers tightening unconsciously around Kael’s hand.

Neither moved.

They just stared.

Until Riley felt the faint brush of warmth on his lower lip—a droplet of blood he hadn’t noticed escaping.

He flinched instinctively, ready to wipe it, but Kael’s arm moved first.

The dragon’s hand twisted, palm turning downward. His thumb brushed against Riley’s lip, pressing lightly to catch the stray drop before bringing it back—guiding it back—to Riley’s lips.

Lick.

It was just a finger, from the same hand, yet the touch suddenly felt different.

The taste lingered on his tongue, just as Kael thumbed his lower lip.

Riley’s breath hitched, his legs closing involuntarily as his pulse hammered in his ears.

But above it all was that look.

So he could make that face.

That quiet, controlled, strained expression—the kind that looked like hunger struggling against restraint.

It was intense. Dangerous.

And yet Riley wanted to see more.

So he opened for him, taking him deeper into his mouth, just to see what kind of face and what kind of sound Kael would make.

It came—a low, unguarded grunt that sent heat spiraling through him.

The kind of sound that didn’t belong in a quiet study.

Riley tipped back his head slightly, dizzy and reckless, his mind a blur of avid curiosity and something far more dangerous.

Exhilaration.

He wasn’t drunk. He didn’t even drink.

And yet—he felt completely drunk.

Drunk on this.

On the way Kael’s arm tensed beneath his hands.

On the veins that suddenly stood out against his skin.

On the dragon lord’s breathing that had grown unsteady.

And yet, despite everything, all Kael did was wait until Riley took him deeper, over and over, until all the dragon could hear was the sound of his jaw clenching.

He just watched, hand following Riley’s lead, with only his thumb brushing against that mouth, that chin, that skin.

Riley shivered.

Because those were definitely the same fingers. The same ones that could’ve easily crushed him were now tangling with his tongue or tracing the line of his cheek.

Patient.

Deliberate.

Ahh, shit. Maybe a vacation can’t save him now.
