Chapter 599: Seizing Long Bar
Meanwhile, in the bar, the groups that had gathered because of Lola decided to seize the opportunity to attack. A few of them moved inside while others positioned themselves outside. The men in the area were still outnumbered, but they were confident they could take them down.

Communicating through signs and signals, they slowly approached the bar without a sound.

As they advanced, they secretly took down those stationed a little farther from the bar. The Bellemonte captives—saved by Lola from their public execution—led both groups.

But then, just as one of the attackers struck a mercenary with the butt of his rifle and the body fell with a dull thud, those nearby turned their heads.

For a second, both the group and the mercenary froze as they made eye contact. It took the mercenaries a moment to realize what was happening.

“Hey!” one mercenary shouted, followed immediately by gunfire.

The first group that had been discovered dove behind a nearby building, barely dodging the bullets flying their way. But as the mercenaries opened fire, one of them suddenly went limp, blood spreading across the concrete.

The rest of the mercenaries froze, their eyes widening as they stared at their fallen comrade. Then, slowly, they turned their heads, only to see another group firing at them from the side.

BANG! BANG!

From their hiding spot, the first group peeked out and saw that their comrades had taken down the mercenaries. One of the Bellemonte captives glanced at the others, nodding once before turning back to the group.

“Let’s go!” he shouted as he jumped to his feet.

Determination flickered in everyone’s eyes as they surged forward. At the same time, rounds upon rounds of gunfire echoed from inside the bar.

“Enemies!” someone shouted from within, turning toward the entrance just as several of their people dropped. “Motherfu—”

Everyone who had been working on forcing open the entrance beneath the bar counter abandoned what they were doing. Teeth clenched, they braced themselves for battle.

Within moments, gunfire thundered across the area. Smoke from the gunpowder thickened the air, blood splattering and pooling across the floor. Shouts and curses rang out until they were abruptly silenced when someone was hit.

As the mercenaries retreated deeper into the bar, it became clear they were being overwhelmed. Far more of their guards outside had been taken down than they’d expected.

“Hold them off!” one shouted, taking cover behind the wall near the entrance. “I’ll hold them off—call for backup!”

Some of them radioed their comrades stationed on the west side after receiving a tip.

“We’ll cover!” another shouted, while the first speaker continued firing at those outside, not waiting for a response.

The man who had taken cover slid across the floor, dragging a table with him as a makeshift shield before vaulting over the bar counter. But instead of landing on the metal platform they had been forcing open earlier, he missed.

He landed directly on the open platform—on the one that was slowly ascending.

THUD!

For a moment, the man winced, clutching his backside.

“Aw—” he reached behind him, only to hear a series of clicks.

Slowly, he lifted his head. His eyes widened as he found multiple weapons pointed straight at him.

“Watch out for those above,” Florida ordered, keeping his rifle trained on the man while the others resumed raising the platform. It moved at a pace slower than a snail—or a turtle. They might as well have climbed up themselves.

Even so, once the entrance was breached, the sound of gunfire raged without pause. They could already tell what was happening just by watching the shelves behind the bar counter shatter under the exchange.

“You—” The man instinctively reached to his side to defend himself. But before he could, a deafening shot rang beside his ear.

Then, he went limp.

Florida swallowed hard as the man collapsed, blood spreading beneath him.

The platform and their supposed grand entrance might have been embarrassing, but once they were close enough to the top, Ransom and Florida volunteered to climb out. The moment they did, they spotted someone crawling toward the opening behind the bar counter—and froze when the man noticed them.

It turned into a split-second contest of who would fire first.

Three gunshots rang out behind the counter, drawing the attention of several mercenaries inside the bar.

“Hey! What the hell are you doing back there?” one of them shouted, then turned and fired toward the entrance. “Stop wasting ammo! We need to hold them off until backup gets back!”

The gunfire continued, but no one answered.

After another minute, the man glanced back again, frowning. Something felt wrong.

“Hey—” he stopped short.

A pair of feet jutted out from the opening behind the bar counter, blood slowly pooling beneath them.

His eyes bulged, his teeth grinding. “Fuck!”

Without thinking, he yanked his rifle free from the narrow crack in the wall and aimed it at the counter. But before he could fire, someone shouted,

“Yo!”

He turned toward the opening, where the lifeless feet still stuck out, and saw Florida lying partially atop the corpse, his head peeking out.

“You—”

“Right here!” Ransom’s voice called from the opposite side.

The man instinctively turned his head—and in that instant, he knew he’d made the worst decision of his life.

Ransom stood there, palm raised. A spark then flashed in the corner of the mercenary’s vision, coming from… Florida’s direction.

Florida opened fire, and the bullet struck the man clean through the temple. Before the mercenary could even react, it was over.

The mercenary was gone.

The sudden silence stopped everyone else inside the bar—the same ones who had been focused on holding off the enemies outside.

Now the enemies were inside.

And immediately, they knew they were at a disadvantage.

With attackers both outside and within, every single one of them understood they had to make a choice: fight to the death, or flee.

Naturally, they tried to do both.

Unfortunately for them, those outside had already caught on. They surrounded the bar completely.

In no time, Florida, Ransom, the Gigante men, the boss and his lackey, and the Bellemonte captives seized control of the Long Bar.
