Chapter 493: More To Learn
As it turned out, Izu was just kidding about jumping off the cliff. It was just that, after hours of running, he forgot to mention he was joking.

“Gosh…” Lola muttered, eating a banana under the shade while watching her kids and Baby stand by the cliff, shouting for Haji.

Over the cliff was the ocean, so Haji was fine. They had jumped there before, so she wasn’t worried at all.

“Sis, I thought you wouldn’t make it,” Slater said, gaining her attention. “Fortunately, I didn’t bet that you wouldn’t finish.”

She deadpanned. “Slater. Please tell me Penny didn’t start again.”

“Uhhh.” He cleared his throat, making her narrow her eyes. “Yes, she did. That woman is despicable.”

But in truth? This time, Slater was the one who started it. That was the advantage of Penny’s sullied reputation.

Lola shook her head and took a deep breath, idling under the shade and enjoying the fresh air. A moment later, Izu approached her and Slater.

“Madam, we’re going back to the manor,” he said, rocking his head. “I’ll let the master know that you’re here with the children.”

“Mhm.” She smiled, though her face twitched as she watched them leave.

After running the entire evening with these guys, she had no energy left to get up. If anything, she just wanted to stay here and rest as long as she could. But those guys still had to run all the way back to where the chopper was waiting to fly them to headquarters.

“Goodness. I know they’re built differently, but they’re on a different caliber,” she clicked her tongue, snapping her eyes at Slater when he spoke.

“Not really. I am better than them.”

Lola arched a brow, her nose scrunching up in disbelief. Slater had joined them when they returned here, but she still hadn’t seen him do anything aside from taking selfies every chance he got.

“Goodness,” she hummed, taking another mouthful of banana.

“Mommy, we’re just going down to check on Uncle Haji~!” Second yelled from where he was, pointing toward the cliff. “Can we go? We’re worried about Uncle Haji~!”

Chacha smiled devilishly. “Mommy, can I jump?”

“No, please.” Lola shook her head. “You can check on Uncle Haji, but no jumping.”

“Aww, man.”

“Chacha.”

Chacha’s pout grew rounder at being told no. Even so, she didn’t complain further. Lola then shifted her eyes to Baby and nodded.

“Keep your eyes on them.”

Baby said nothing, but he nodded. Having received his cue, he carried the twins in his big arms—letting Second crawl onto his back while Chacha remained in his arms. Like a gigantic robot, Baby took big steps down the alternate path leading to another cliff.

They could jump from there since it was lower and safer.

What Lola had learned so far was that, on this island, her kids were safe. Safer than they ever were in Novera or Anteca, or anywhere else in the world.

At least, they were safe from outside forces. Although… they weren’t as safe from themselves.

After all, Chacha and Second acted like they had multiple lives. Lola had already lost count of how many times she felt like fainting because of her children. Even though she knew they had done even more extreme activities before, her anxiety still screamed every time she caught them mid-act.

“Sis, aren’t you going back to the manor?” Slater asked, genuinely curious. “First Brother is waiting for you there. You still have a class, don’t you?”

Lola frowned slightly. “A class… right.”

Training wasn’t the only thing she had been focusing on since arriving here. She was also taking short classes—ones she could do on her own time—to understand the Secret Society better. Explaining it once wasn’t enough. Hence, the need for these lessons for a deeper understanding of this world.

Surely, it was different from the underworld.

It was far more complicated than that. All she knew was that the secret families were “heroes” from a long time ago. And now, they lived in secrecy for the heck of it… until greed took over, and now, here they were.

“Right.” Lola raised her brows and shifted her eyes to Slater. “Didn’t you mention that your brother has a guest today?”

Slater rocked his head. “It’s the head of the Bellemonte family,” he said. “He’s probably already there. Why do you ask?”

“Nothing.” Lola leaned back, her hands on either side of her. “It’s just that I haven’t met anyone from the other Secret Society families.”

She had expected these families to live in the same area as neighbors. So imagine her surprise when she realized that everything she could see—hills, land, ocean—was owned by the Zorken family.

“Sis, it’s better not to meet any of them for now,” Slater advised. “Especially not the head of the Bellemonte family.”

“Huh? Why not?” she hummed. “Atlas didn’t warn me about him, though.”

“It’s because he’s my brother’s ally—sort of,” Slater shrugged. “This is exactly why you should learn from these lessons. My brother stayed late at night summarizing them for you. All you have to do is read.”

“I am reading them, alright? It’s just that I also have a company to run from a faraway land and… children to raise and make sure they survive this childhood.” Lola let out a deep exhale and nodded. “But you’re right. I’m getting too distracted by a lot of things instead of focusing on what’s important.”

“I’m not saying you’re distracted, sis.” Slater pouted, making her frown. “All I’m saying is make time for it. Right now, it’s safe since I don’t think they’ve seen your face. Having your face unknown is a blessing. You should take advantage of it.”

“Oh…” Lola rocked her head, surprise written across her face as she stared at him. “I didn’t expect that from you. Surely, you’re not as careless as I thought.”

“What does that mean? Sis, I can be reckless because I can,” he rolled his eyes. “Anyway, don’t bother with my first brother’s guests. He’s bad news.”

With that, Slater pushed himself out of the shade and walked toward the cliff to check on the others. Lola let out a shallow chuckle, shaking her head as she watched him.

Her smile, however, faded when Slater suddenly stepped back from the cliff… only to run forward and jump.

Silence descended on her shoulder instantly, a beat of stillness before she heard the loud splash below.

“Did he just…” she trailed off, mouth falling open. “I didn’t know he could jump over a cliff.”

“Hah…” Lola rocked her head. “I guess there’s more to learn about him after all.”
