Chapter 484: No Progress Means Progress
The idea lingered in every single one of the Bennets, including Lola — the newest Bennet. However, they didn’t let that affect the remaining days they had in this paradise. Smiles, laughter, and silliness still echoed across the island.

But no matter what, Lola could feel the silent worry they all secretly worry.

Idling by the ocean under a large umbrella with a simple cloth spread beneath her, she watched the children playing with the adults. Penny and Zoren were with their kids, Slater joining them, while Kiara and Hugo were helping out — or rather, acting more like kids themselves with how they were having more fun than the children. As for Nina and Finn, as usual, the couple were relaxing under the big umbrella nearby.

“Haha. How cute,” she muttered, turning her head to the side where Atlas was seated.

Atlas was dressed in nothing but a loose white shirt and shorts, sunglasses covering his eyes, his hair tousled by the wind. He was simply watching everyone play, his expression nearly the same as always. But Lola could tell he wasn’t just watching — he was assessing everyone.

“Atlas?” she called, tilting her head. “Should we swim?”

He didn’t answer immediately, eyes still on the family playing in the salt water, before he finally faced her. “That night…” He trailed off, choosing his words carefully. “…what did you talk about with them?”

“Hmm?” Lola blinked, needing a moment to recall which night he meant.

Despite her conversation with his siblings, she had forgotten to bring it up with him. Though that was partly Atlas’s fault. He had been making the most out of this honeymoon. She never had a chance.

He blinked slowly, shifting his gaze back to his family. “Something is bothering them.”

With that, clarity dawned on her.

Lola’s brows lifted, her eyes widening slightly as she studied his neutral expression. A brief flicker of worry crossed his eyes, giving away how much his siblings’ behavior concerned him.

They were right, she thought. His worry… only makes them worry more.

And suddenly, Penny’s words from the very first time they met echoed in her mind: because Atlas was the way he was, no one would ever know when he was in pain. No one would know when he was struggling. He made everything seem so easy.

No matter how cold he appeared at times, it was obvious he had a soft spot for his siblings.

Lola let out a shallow breath and scooted closer until she was hugging his arm. His brows twitched upward at her sudden closeness. When he turned to her, all he saw was a small, mischievous curl of her lips.

“No wonder your siblings want to protect you,” she said. “You’re really like their father.”

His brows knitted, making her chuckle. Lola rested her head on his shoulder, her gaze drifting back to the others.

“We talked about our first lives,” she said quietly, aware he was looking down at her. “How could I not listen to you the first time? But… oh well. I just realized I’m not alone in this world. There are people out there just like me.”

She paused, then glanced up at him. “Atlas, I know you’re holding back some information from me so I can enjoy this vacation.” Her smile softened as she looked away. “Although I have a pretty good idea of what it is.”

“I wouldn’t have married you if I hadn’t known you’d eventually catch on,” he said casually, eyes lowering to meet hers when she looked up. “We wouldn’t have worked.”

Her cheeks, already flushed from the heat, warmed even more from the compliment. “I’m smart.”

“You are.”

“Hehe.” A short laugh escaped her. “So? Any progress I should know?”

At this point, Lola didn’t need an introduction to the Secret Society or to what Atlas handled. She already knew he was managing the Zorken family and the Order, dealing with powerful secret families, and unraveling a conspiracy they were involved in.

And she wouldn’t be surprised if he kept the details from his siblings simply because he didn’t want to worry them. That was her husband — if he could fix it alone, he would. He only reached out to family when it was truly necessary.

“I’ll discuss the breakdown with you once this vacation is over,” he hummed, letting her weight rest against him. “For now, all I can say is… there isn’t any progress. Not with our children’s case, or who delivered them.”

Silence settled as Lola thought about it. After a moment, her lips parted.

“But no progress… means progress, right?” She hummed, and the corners of his mouth lifted.

His eyes gleamed with satisfaction. This was why he had no regrets about marrying Lola. Unlike others, she didn’t need long explanations.

“Yes,” he nodded. “No progress means progress, because it tells us whoever is hindering it is someone to watch out for.”

Lola lifted her head off his shoulder and faced him. Their faces were only a few palms apart, meeting each other’s gaze in silence.

Just when he expected a critical question — something deep, something analytical — she asked instead:

“Atlas, how do you manage to sound sexy and smart at the same time?” she said, genuinely confused. “And how come your hair falls perfectly even with this wind?”

He blinked. “Is that a change of topic?”

“No, no. But I’m a little distracted.”

A shallow chuckle escaped him as he pinched her cheek. “Do not worry,” he reassured. “I’ve got it under control.”

Lola pouted, failing to hide her smile. There was something about the way he said those words — every time — that made her feel undeniably safe.

“I know.” She pulled his hand into her lap, holding it with both hands. “For what it’s worth, Atlas, you can rely on me too.”

She nodded firmly. “I’ll protect you, and especially our children. And I’ll prove to the world that I’m worthy to stand beside you.”

“You do not need to prove anything to anyone,” he said. “You are perfect the way you are.”

She giggled but squeezed his hand. “I know, because bagging Atlas Bennet is already enough, but…” She huffed, staring into his eyes. “I’m your wife now, so… I’ll carry everything with you. Promise me.”

“Promise me, Atlas,” she repeated, gripping his hand tighter. “That you’ll see me as an ally, a partner — not someone you have to keep at home.”

Her safety and their children’s safety mattered, but Lola wanted his confidence too. She wanted her name to never become something she despised — never something tied to weakness.

Atlas let out a soft chuckle. “My children have never been considered my weakness,” he said knowingly, tugging her hand toward him as he leaned closer. “And your name… my wife’s name, and the name of the mother of my children… will not be one either.”

“Promise?”

“Mhm.” He hummed, tugging her so she rested her head on his shoulder again. “It’s a promise.”
