Chapter 483: Not Over Yet
Lola learned a lot just by talking with Penny, Finn, Slater, and Hugo. She was pleased—relieved, even—to find people who had experienced the same phenomenon as her. All this time, she thought it only happened to her.
Who would have thought there were more people like her? And to make it better, they were the very people she now called family.
Still, it made her wonder… why them?
Above all, it made her wonder about many other things, despite gaining some clarity from the discussion.
Lola paused by the doorframe of the kids’ area, leaning against the jamb. Inside, Atlas sat with Chacha holding his hand, making him sign her homework. Second, meanwhile, was wrestling with his little cousins. The quadruplets were doing typical one-year-old things—except for one of them, who was climbing the curtains.
…Or was curtain-climbing normal toddler behavior too?
Not letting the children’s daily dose of near-death activities distract her, she shifted her eyes to where her husband sat.
According to his siblings, Atlas wasn’t supposed to be in this position, she thought.
The one who should have been carrying the burdens of the secret society was Zoren—Penny’s husband. Zoren’s mother came from one of the big families tied to the secret society. Although the Bennets fought for and with Zoren, they all knew the price of freedom was high.
And it cost them Atlas.
The thought brought mixed emotions to her chest, but she knew—deeply—that Atlas wanted this. After knowing him and loving him so long, Lola knew this was exactly the kind of burden Atlas would choose. Not the secret society itself, but the safety of his siblings and family.
He may not have been sentimental, but he was reliable. And if it were for the family, he would lock himself away a thousand times if it meant ensuring their safety and freedom.
But that didn’t ease the faint pain she felt for him.
All this time, I thought he lived a perfect life. But now… I understand how different expectations are from reality.
The Bennet family was close-knit and loving, yes—but they were far from perfect. For all their success and unity, they also had huge problems. Problems Lola would never have known if she had remained on the outside.
Secret society… she thought, her mind drifting back to their discussion. And Atlas doesn’t even remember his first life.
“What are you thinking?”
Lola flinched at Atlas’s voice close to her. Her eyes shook slightly as she lifted her head, catching him already standing before her.
His gaze swept over her, head lowered slightly. “Did they bother you?”
“Huh?” She snapped out of her thoughts and shook her head. “No one bothered me.”
He didn’t reply, but she could tell from his expression that he was trying to detect even the slightest reason to kick everyone out. Before he could, Lola jumped onto him, wrapping her arms around him.
As she pressed her cheek against his chest and tightened her hold, his brows lifted. He looked down at her, mild surprise flickering in his eyes.
“I’m just…” she hummed, trying to articulate her feelings. “I just missed you, that’s all. You said you’d follow me outside after you talked to the butler.”
He patted her back, letting her cling to him, though his posture stayed stiff. “The kids dragged me to spend time with them.”
“Hehe.” She chuckled. “What do they want this time?”
Atlas glanced over his shoulder at the chaos behind him. Chacha had her back turned to them, clearly hiding something.
“Fraud,” he said.
“Huh?”
He smiled subtly, taking her wrist. “Don’t bother about it. Her mother has plenty of money to bail her out of jail.”
Confusion slammed into Lola, but before she could respond, he was already pulling her out of the playroom. As they walked away, Lola stared at his back.
“Wait—Atlas, where are you taking me?” she asked.
Without looking back, he answered, “Sex.”
Her face froze, but her feet kept moving anyway. Slowly, her nose scrunched as she studied his profile while walking two steps behind him. The more she looked, the more she realized she had absolutely no problem with where this was going.
“Goodness,” she chuckled, letting him drag her wherever he pleased. “I told your siblings I was just getting a glass of water.”
Atlas glanced back and smirked. “They’re very good at pretending to be blind, mute, and deaf. No need to worry.”
A light giggle escaped her as she practically bounced in excitement. Their sex life was undeniably one of her favorite parts of being married to him.
Even so, the earlier conversation lingered in her mind. Lola knew that dwelling on it was important, but the timing wasn’t right. She would have plenty of time to investigate her pregnancy and everything that happened after once they reached the Island.
For now, she would indulge in this paradise with the love of her life.

Unlike Lola, who made a quick decision to stop thinking about it, the people she left on the back patio couldn’t stop replaying her questions. Her words looped in their minds like a broken record, leaving them sharing a heavy silence.
A minute later, Zoren stepped outside and instantly sensed the mood. Lines creased between his brows as he assessed the group before quietly approaching. Only after he sat beside Penny did he finally break the silence.
“Do we have a problem?” he asked, immediately catching on.
His voice snapped the others back to reality, and Penny turned to him.
“Anything wrong, my love?” he asked. “Did Third Brother find out about your plans?”
“I know her plans,” Slater muttered darkly, “and I’ve already set traps for her to save my snacks. But First Sister had a point.”
Zoren looked at him. “What point?”
“Renren.” Penny squeezed her husband’s hand. “We were talking about our first life with our first sister-in-law. And she asked us something.”
Zoren’s brows rose as he scanned everyone’s tense expressions. Whatever Lola had asked, he knew immediately it was something none of them—Finn included—could answer.
“She asked… how certain are we that the Zorken case was really closed?” Finn said, taking a long sip from his drink. “And not something we are simply made to believe was closed?”
The statement silenced Zoren as well. Back then, they would have answered without hesitation. But now…
“Someone has been tailing First Brother, that’s for sure,” Hugo said, rocking his head thoughtfully. “Dad has always wondered about that ever since the twins came home. But with First Sister’s story about how she lost her children… and how she always thought she had only one child instead of twins… Dad wasn’t wrong.”
Hugo looked up, still seated on the floor. “Something doesn’t add up at all.”
Again, silence fell on them like a boulder. The possibility that they had all been dancing to someone else’s tune sent a cold shiver down their spines.
“It’s not over,” Slater whispered. On the quiet patio, his words echoed like a warning. “It was never over.”
