Chapter 460: Peace xD
Whatever was going on in Novera was something Lola no longer cared about. She would let karma handle the Youngs. So even if karma dressed itself as a man and manifested as Atlas, she was already out of it.

The days she spent away from all the chaos gave her enough time to understand many things. One of them being the “reason” she was given a second chance at life. No matter how much she tried to correct the wrongs from her previous life, it was extra difficult because her life was already wrong from the beginning.

It was wrong the moment she landed in Loren’s arms.

And the more Lola thought about it, the more painful her memories of Loren became. So instead, she filled her mind with new memories—ones she was building in this beautiful country, Anteca.

“Bye bye~!” Penny waved as she honked lightly, driving away from the restaurant.

Lola, seated in the front passenger seat, stared back at the entrance. Allison and Jessa stood outside. Jessa, with her fierce stare and crossed arms, while Allison waved with her usual gentle smile.

Lola smiled as their vehicle pulled away.

“Sis, you’re seeing them later,” Penny remarked. “You don’t have to be emotional.”

“Penny, if I’m going to cry, I’ll tell your brother it’s because of you,” Lola quipped, snapping her eyes at her. She chuckled. “I’m just happy. This poor orphan needs motherly affection, and your parents have been giving that to me.”

Penny ignored the second sentence as she was stuck on the first. “Sis, how does it feel to threaten me using my first brother?”

“Good.”

“I’d feel good too,” Kiara chimed in from the backseat. “Must be very nice.”

“Second Sister, you should be more lenient to Penny,” Nina laughed from the backseat. “She gets threatened from every direction. She needs a break.”

Penny frowned, glancing at Kiara through the rearview mirror. “Second Sister, why are you so harsh to me? Have you forgotten I was your favorite before?”

“You were until I found out you’d been placing bets on my marriage.”

Penny pressed her lips together and gulped, focusing on the windshield. Meanwhile, Lola looked at Penny’s side profile, then turned to the backseat.

“Bet on your marriage?” Lola repeated. “What does that mean?”

Even though she’d been here for a while, there were still many things she was learning—especially about the family dynamics. She got too comfortable too soon and forgot to ask. After all, Lola had been in Anteca for days, but she hadn’t seen Hugo—Kiara’s husband, and Atlas’s second brother—not even once.

Kiara nodded. “When Hugo and I got married, he needed to be deployed before he could step down from his position. So I had him sign our divorce papers early so I could file them before he died.”

Lola’s face twitched. “Why would you file it if he dies?”

“Because I’d rather be a divorcee than a widow,” Kiara answered plainly, confusing Lola even more.

Seeing her expression, Nina chuckled. “It’s because Second Brother is a little reckless. He told her that if he died, she’d get all his benefits. Second Sister didn’t want the benefits—she just wanted her husband to come back alive.”

“Ahh…” Lola nodded, surprised. Among all the couples in the family, she was most curious about Kiara and Hugo.

She’d seen plenty of Penny and Zoren’s interactions with their quadruplets. It was obvious that those two were madly and oddly in love. They were chaotic, but they were cute. As for Nina and Finn, they were the typical “too in love” couple. A doting husband, a beautiful wife—one glance and anyone could tell they were perfect.

But Hugo and Kiara… Lola had yet to see the two together, so she had no clue what their dynamic was like.

“Fortunately, my husband came home in one piece,” Kiara smiled proudly. “He returned and was dismissed with honors. He didn’t retire without taking home the leader of a terrorist group.”

Lola blinked, staring at Kiara’s obvious pride.

I… didn’t expect this. She seemed very proud of her husband. So why were they always “divorcing”?

What Lola understood was that the reason everyone called Kiara the “fake” second sister or the “fake” daughter-in-law was because they were always one divorce away. Not because the family disliked her, nor because Kiara disliked them.

Kiara being present at every Bennet family event said enough.

“It’s just that…” Kiara leaned back with a heavy sigh. “Even though my husband retired, I guess fighting for the country is what he was born to do. Right now, he accepted another mission because he’s the best—and they needed him.”

“In other words,” Penny shrugged, “Second Brother is like a freelancer—sort of.”

Nina nodded. “Whenever a department or the military has a huge problem, they call him as a last resort.”

“Ahh…” Lola nodded. “So that’s why you’re divorcing again.”

The ladies blinked at her. They thought she would say, “That’s why Hugo isn’t here.”

“Well,” Kiara nodded. “That’s right. Until he comes home, I keep our divorce papers with me at all times.”

Lola smiled softly, understanding Kiara more through this conversation. Her heart warmed. Kiara and Hugo might seem strange to outsiders, but hearing their story, she understood deeply that Kiara wasn’t just “there.”

She was waiting for her husband.

I guess she’s just too worried, Lola thought, shifting her eyes to Penny and smiling. No wonder Penny kept teasing Kiara more than anyone, probably to distract her.

Lola settled in her seat when a thought hit her. “Where’s the bet in that story, though?”

“Ah, that?” Kiara laughed and exchanged a look with Nina.

Nina smacked her lips. “Penny started a betting pool on whether Second Brother lives or dies. And she bet that he’d die.”

“Ahh…” Lola’s face contorted as she turned to Penny. “Penny.”

Penny puffed her cheeks. “I have a good reason for that, sis. It was a bet for a cause.”

“Well, anyway, she keeps starting these betting pools,” Kiara added with a shrug. “But I guess my marriage can take a breather now since we have you, First Sister.”

“Huh?”

Nina chuckled. “Last time, we had a betting night on whether you’d be able to command First Brother’s men to stop them from running themselves to death. I won, by the way.”

“…” Lola blinked, then blinked again.

She didn’t know that until now. Her face twitched, remembering the time Slater set up cameras around the jogging path.

She slowly turned to Penny, who was smiling mischievously while holding up two fingers.

With a sheepish grin, Penny said, “Peace.”
