Chapter 456: The Place Below Rock Bottom
At the same time…
Mike pulled up his face mask and put on a scrub, blending in perfectly with the hallway staff. In his hand was a tray and some medicine—exactly what a normal nurse would carry down the corridor. So far, his disguise was doing its job.
Soon, he reached Lawrence’s ward. He stopped at the door, glancing left and right before entering. As the door clicked behind him, Mike let out a shallow breath.
Slowly, he approached the bed where Lawrence lay peacefully.
“…” Mike stood motionless beside the bed, eyes on the patient. His heart hardened with nothing but spite.
All these decades, Mike had to suck up to this fool. He had to act nice and call this man his “brother.” God knows how insufferable Lawrence was, especially whenever Lawrence made sure Mike felt inferior. After all, Lawrence always acted as if he were better than Mike in every aspect.
Just because you were lucky enough to seduce a woman with money…
A vile smirk curled beneath Mike’s face mask. His eyes glinted malevolently, relief washing through him.
Once Lawrence was gone, Mike could finally take Jasmine away from all this. As for Melissa, she could just die—just like her mother, Loren. Unlike Jasmine, Mike didn’t have that many sentimental attachments regarding the baby swap. It annoyed him, it hurt him a little, and yes—he felt sorry for his own daughter. However, he convinced himself that he wouldn’t have been so cruel to Lola had he known the truth.
Besides, he believed he did his best to be a good second father to Melissa. He made an effort.
Most importantly, there was nothing they could do now. Loren had been a step ahead of them. They couldn’t change the past, but they could still control their future. And the last thing Mike wanted was to let all their years of scheming go to waste.
“Lawrence Young,” he whispered, taking a small vial from his pocket. He quietly drew a syringe, pulling the fluid from the vial efficiently. Once he transferred everything, he snapped his eyes back to Lawrence.
He snorted. “Still, thanks for all your help,” he murmured, reaching for the IV tube, positioning his hand to administer a fatal overdose. He sneered down at the unconscious man.
“You should rest in peace now,” he whispered as he slowly injected the drug into the IV line. “I will take care of Jasmine from now on. As for your daughter…”
Mike fell silent as he emptied the syringe, then quickly withdrew it. He wrapped the vial, reassembled the syringe, and placed them inside a pouch. His gaze drifted to a bag in the corner of the ward.
He quietly walked to the bag and tucked the evidence inside.
This wasn’t part of the original plan. Or rather, Jasmine wasn’t aware of this part. But Mike wanted to make sure that if an investigation occurred, all suspicion would fall on someone else. Melissa was the perfect fall guy: she had no money to sustain Lawrence’s treatment, she’d been kicked out by the Lancaster family, and her life had fallen apart.
That alone created a believable motive to end her father’s suffering, and her own.
Satisfied, Mike straightened and turned to the bed. A glint flickered across his eyes, the corners of his mouth curling into a vicious smirk.
“Loren Young will regret ever messing with us,” he muttered, approaching the bed one last time. “Our daughter isn’t the only one who will suffer—but hers, and yours too.”
“You’re lucky, Lawrence Young,” he added coldly. “You won’t have to see your child’s suffering.”
And just like that, Lawrence’s journey ended here.
Mike quietly walked to the door, peeking into the hallway before stepping out. As he walked, he pulled out his phone and contacted Jasmine.
Once the line connected, he simply said, “It’s done.”

Meanwhile, in the cafeteria, Jasmine and Melissa stared at each other. Jasmine’s eyes were cold; Melissa’s eyes burned as she clasped her hands tightly under the table.
“What are you going to do?” Melissa scoffed, her face twisting. “Hurt me? Slap me again?”
She snorted. “Do you think I’m scared of you? Try raising your hand at me again, and you’ll see what kind of person you raised, Jasmine Young.”
Melissa drew a ragged breath and pushed herself to her feet. She glared at Jasmine, shocked by her audacity, yet deep inside, terrified. Because no matter what happened, Jasmine raised her. That fear stayed buried in Melissa’s bones.
“I can take care of my dad,” she whispered sharply. “If you think your daughter is that amazing, then go beg her to take you.”
She shook her head, letting out a bitter laugh. “As for me? Don’t even bother. You are dead to me.”
With that, Melissa turned and walked away. Jasmine remained unfazed. Her cold eyes followed Melissa’s retreating figure. She scoffed faintly just as her phone rang.
She answered the call the second she saw Mike’s name.
“It’s done.”
Her eyelids lowered dangerously as her lashes fluttered. She tilted her head in quiet satisfaction.
“She’s on her way back,” she whispered. “Get out of there now and meet me in the parking.”
“Sure—”
Jasmine’s brows twitched as Mike’s voice suddenly cut off. “What is it?”
But the response wasn’t Mike.
“…you are under arrest for the attempted murder of Lawrence Young. You have the right to remain silent —”
Jasmine’s shoulders tensed at the faint voice from the other end. A second later, she heard another officer clearly:
“There’s nowhere you can run now, Mike.”
In the hallway, Mike froze as officers blocked both ends. His eyes dilated, darting around desperately. But it was over. He was cornered.
As for Jasmine, her heart pounded as she finally grasped what was happening. She turned off her phone and hurriedly grabbed her bag. But just as she took a step forward, someone appeared behind her, flashing a badge in her face.
“Jasmine Young? I’m Detective Connor from the King County Police Department…”
Jasmine staggered back, instinctively looking left and right. Unlike Mike, she wasn’t surrounded. Only one detective and two officers stood before her.
“No!” she screamed, clutching her bag and running.
But Jasmine wasn’t fit, nor was she young enough to outrun anyone. The detective simply sighed and gestured. Then, the officers seized her immediately.
“Kyah! What are you doing!?” Jasmine screeched, drawing the entire cafeteria’s attention. “I can’t breathe! You’re going to kill me!”
Melissa, who had barely reached the exit, stopped and turned. Her brows knitted as she walked back, only to find Jasmine pinned to the floor by two uniformed men.
“Huh?” she breathed out in confusion. “What is going on…?”
“Miss Melissa?”
An officer called to her from the side. Melissa turned slowly, the lines on her face deepening.
“Can I have a minute with you?” he asked.
Melissa didn’t answer at first. But deep inside, something twisted in her chest—a feeling that whatever was coming next was worse than anything she had ever faced.
She was right.
In the next few minutes, her already shattered world would break even further.
And she would learn about the place far, far below rock bottom. The hell where they locked Lola in the past… now opened for them.
