The Billionaire Twins Need A New Mommy! - Chapter 439
Chapter 439: Me too
A piece of paper had changed the course of Lola’s life but at the same time, another piece of paper also gave her hope.
Hope for a better tomorrow.
Hope that happiness was not so out of reach.
Hope for a life that finally felt like her own.
Atlas, Penny, and Slater stood by the entrance of the outdoor patio, watching Lola and the twins play on the lawn. A subtle smile formed on Penny and Slater’s faces, their hearts filling with relief as they watched the trio laugh together.
“Just last night, I thought things would be different,” Slater murmured quietly. “Thank God she’s fine.”
Penny tilted her head and glanced at her eldest brother. “First Brother, you planned all of this, didn’t you?”
As always, Atlas didn’t answer right away as if the question hadn’t even registered. His eyes remained fixed on his children and the woman who had given them life, the woman who would soon become his wife. Just hearing his children’s bubbly laughter mingling with Lola’s voice was enough for him.
Finally, he understood his father.
Why his father would skip a meeting to watch his child’s basketball game.
Why he would forgo ambition if it meant spending time with his family.
Now, Atlas understood the man who had raised him—and his siblings—because he felt exactly the same way.
This was his treasure. Those three were his everything.
No amount of money, reputation, or power could ever compare to the sight before him. His children and their mother playing freely, without fear or care.
When Atlas finally spoke, it was an answer to Penny’s question.
“I didn’t,” he denied calmly. “I just saw an opportunity… and took it.”
Others might say he should’ve told Lola everything, but after being with her, he realized she’d rather hear the truth from anyone but him. Anyone, except him. Why? He had no idea. But somehow, he preferred it that way.
So when he saw Melissa in that hospital, he didn’t stop her. He let her take the bait. He handed her the weapon himself, knowing that someone like Melissa would grab a bomb and threaten someone with it, only to blow herself up in the process.
What hit Lola last night was simply a shard from that explosion.
“But that means you’re right, First Brother,” Slater said, breaking the silence, his voice suddenly sharp. “Whoever took the kids and brought them to you… they’re already ahead of us.”
Penny’s expression turned serious as she studied Atlas. The eldest brother didn’t answer right away.
He kept his gaze on Lola and the twins, who were now sticking their tongues out at him in pure mischief as if teasing him for missing out on their fun.
“That problem…” he trailed off, finally tearing his eyes from them to face his siblings. “…can wait.”
A faint glint flashed in his eyes as his tone softened. “Once your big sister and I talk things through. After all, she’ll get bored if she’s not included.”
“First Brother,” Penny cleared her throat delicately. “I won’t have to worry about her joining the secret society, right?”
Atlas replied without hesitation, “No. Lola lets a lot of things slide simply because she can. But this—” his gaze hardened slightly, “—this, she won’t. I know, because I wouldn’t either.”
His answer made Penny exhale in relief.
The secret society was unlike anything else, and she knew that better than anyone after years of watching her brother work within it. She could never handle their twisted ways or brutal laws. But Atlas thrived in it, and he had never once asked her or anyone close to him to get involved. He knew the consequences.
If Atlas said Lola could handle it, that meant he trusted her more than anyone else.
Besides, what was there to worry about?
Lola would be under Atlas’s wing.
Even if the world burned, not a single flame would touch her or the children. Penny and Slater knew that better than anyone because Atlas had protected them all these years.
“I’m taking her home,” Atlas said finally, stepping forward to join the three on the lawn. “Let everyone know she’s going home with me.”
Penny raised her brows, watching his retreating back. She pressed her lips together and smiled softly, shaking her head. When she glanced sideways, she caught Slater looking away.
“Third Brother…” she teased, narrowing her eyes. “Are you crying?”
“Penny, just leave me alone!” Slater snapped, waving a hand while discreetly wiping the corner of his eyes. “I’m not crying — it’s just the wind!”
“But there’s no wind,” she pointed out with a smirk, earning a flustered yelp from him.
Penny chuckled quietly, shifting her gaze back toward Atlas and Lola. Her expression softened as she watched Lola leap into Atlas’s arms while the twins clung to his legs, laughing as though trying to climb him like a tree.
A small, wistful laugh escaped her lips. “Third Brother,” she said softly, “once they leave Anteca… will you go after them? To the island?”
Slater, still pretending not to wipe his eyes, froze at her question. Her tone wasn’t teasing this time. It was calm, almost thoughtful. He followed her gaze toward the family on the lawn.
“I have to,” he said under his breath. “I still haven’t found that woman. Until I know she’s dead, I won’t be at peace.”
For a moment, the two siblings simply looked at each other. Their usual banter fell away, replaced by quiet understanding.
Then, Penny’s lips curved into a mischievous smirk. “Need help?”
Slater frowned. “Just take care of your kids. Actually, go home—your children might’ve buried their father by now.”
“Not gonna happen,” Penny said with a playful shake of her head. “My kids and their dad get along just fine.”
What she didn’t know, however, was that her beloved husband had just survived a minefield of elaborate traps set up by their mischievous children while she was gone. So far, though, Zoren was still alive—thanks solely to the power of love.
“Mom’s gonna love her,” Penny hummed, snapping her eyes at Lola. “Aunt Jessa too. God, they will love her for sure.”
After all, the elders in their family were scared Atlas would grow old alone and grumpy. Slater sniffed and shifted his eyes to Penny.
“She was lying too, wasn’t she?” he hummed, referring to the rebirth Lola had mentioned last night. “I’m glad she’s one of us too.”
“Me too, Third Brother.” She nodded. “Me too.”
