Chapter 412: The Fury of a Woman
Atlas wasn’t born knowing who lives and who dies. Never in his life had he thought about that. But for the sake of family and everything it demanded, he assumed a role that required an entirely new life and identity.

A life of constant danger and schemes.

He lasted this long because of his methods, but it wasn’t all him. The people around him helped him endure. Allen was one of them.

Holding so much power—being in a position to decide who lives and dies—also entailed huge responsibility. That was why Atlas had given Allen one role: just one. Aside from Allen’s official position as advisor and assistant, Allen was authorized to undermine his orders when there was a better way.

This one, however, was something Atlas hadn’t thought could be resolved any other way.

There was just no way.

Allen let out a deep exhale as he sat in his office, thinking about his boss’s order. He hadn’t passed the order yet; he was still wondering how Atlas had processed it in his mind.

“He should’ve at least explained how he came to that conclusion,” Allen muttered, pausing as his brows rose. Checking his wristwatch, he jumped from his seat and rushed to his boss’s office.

He knocked, then pushed the door open. As expected, Atlas wasn’t in because he was in a meeting. Without hesitation, Allen moved to the bin.

The paternity results were still in it.

Allen picked them up and unfolded the first document. As his eyes scanned it, deep lines creased his face. The first result showed Melissa and Mike’s DNA test.

The result?

“It’s negative?” he blurted in disbelief, then quickly checked the next page. This time it was Lawrence and Melissa, and it showed a 99.9% match.

Confusion overtook him; this was not what he’d expected. Even though Atlas had ordered the tests because something seemed off, Allen had been convinced Melissa was Mike and Jasmine’s daughter.

He checked the other results without thinking. He came across Lola’s DNA results with Lawrence. Surprisingly, not a match. Then he turned the next page: Lola and Mike.

His blood ran cold.

99.999% match.

“What in the world is going on…?” he trailed off, hit by the realization of why Atlas had given such an order.

His lips went cold, and his pupils dilated as he whispered, “Loren Albert…?”

*****

[Flashback]

Loren sat in a rocking chair, one hand on her bulging belly. Her eyes drifted to the window, where the garden glowed. She hummed a calm and empty tune. She was almost due, and she was alone.

Not just today. She’d been alone throughout the pregnancy.

Her husband? He was somewhere else.

Somewhere, taking care of another pregnant woman. The thought made her chuckle.

Years of togetherness, loving a man, fighting for a love she believed worth fighting for. Even when she found out about Lawrence and Jasmine, and that he had gotten Jasmine pregnant in a single night of mistake, she stayed. She forgave him, thinking they could figure it out.

Loren was wrong.

Jasmine was like poison. A slow, lethal one.

The silence in the room broke with a faint knock. Loren didn’t turn when the door creaked open.

Doctor Tyler entered. He stopped at the doorway and found Loren in the rocking chair as usual. Studying her profile, his lips tightened; worry swirled in his eyes.

Once, Loren had shone brightest.

She had stood out in a crowd; her presence could light a room. Yet on the day she should have been happiest—blessed with the pregnancy she’d prayed for—her light had dimmed.

“Loren,” Tyler said quietly, dragging a chair close. He called her again, but she kept staring at the window.

He exhaled and glanced at her hands on the armrest, then reached out to hold her hand.

“Loren,” he said softly. “If it’s truly unbearable, just leave him.”

“Lawrence is nothing,” he muttered. “You don’t need him. Many others would want to love and take care of you, both you and your child. Someone who will show you that you don’t deserve this.”

“Like… you?” Loren trailed off as she finally turned to him.

Tyler’s breath hitched at her response, watching her chuckle. “You’re not very good at hiding it, Tyler.”

They’d known each other since college; Loren understood Tyler’s admiration. She didn’t want to give him false hope, so she’d pretended to be blind to it.

She had hoped he’d give up, but he was more devoted than she’d expected.

A soft chuckle escaped her. Leaning back with her hand on her belly, she tilted her head.

“How nice would it be if you were him?” she hummed. “If it were you, maybe I wouldn’t feel this much loneliness…” Her smile faltered as she added under her breath, “…and anger.”

Loren looked away. “Jasmine… had I known this would happen, I should’ve dealt with her earlier.”

This was not what Loren had expected. Lawrence and Loren had planned to support Jasmine’s pregnancy and her child financially. Lawrence didn’t want the child, but the child in Jasmine’s womb was his, and Loren didn’t have the heart to forsake an innocent life.

But Jasmine had used that to poison Loren’s marriage. Before long, Loren was alone in the pregnancy while Lawrence took care of his mistress.

All because Jasmine somehow convinced Lawrence that the child Loren was carrying wasn’t his.

No one knew the wrath that had filled Loren.

Slowly, she squeezed Tyler’s hand. “Tyler, help me.”

“Hmm? What do you need?” he asked. “Anything.”

Loren’s hand tightened on her belly, then she breathed, “Revenge,” she whispered. “Help me take my revenge.”

“Loren, what are you —”

“She’s going to hurt my child, Tyler,” she tugged his hand, her voice shaky as the corners of her eyes reddened. “If I don’t do anything, she’s going to hurt my child. If not mine, she’s going to kill me.”

With these past months, Loren was certain Jasmine would have her killed eventually. And with the type of person Jasmine was — and that Mike just got released from prison — she expected the worst. If right now, Jasmine was able to make Lawrence doubt everything that Loren had said, what more in the future?

“Help me, Tyler,” she pleaded quietly. “Please.”

Hesitation flickered in Tyler’s eyes, but in the end, he nodded in agreement.

“Fine. What do you need me to do?”
