Chapter 349: Dream Girl
Finally, the day of Melissa’s long-awaited engagement arrived. Since she had stayed at the hotel near the venue the night before, she was certain everything would go perfectly.

“Melissa, dear, you look so beautiful!” Jasmine’s voice rang out, almost making Melissa flinch.

Seated in front of the mirror, surrounded by makeup artists, Melissa turned toward the voice. Her lips curved into a smile as soon as she saw her mother — all glammed up — walking gracefully toward her.

“Oh, my dear!” Jasmine covered her mouth in awe, reaching out to touch her daughter’s cheek. Her eyes softened with pure adoration. “You really are beautiful.”

Melissa’s cheeks flushed a rosy pink as she pursed her lips. Well, she had hired the best makeup artists in Novera, so she felt especially radiant today.

“Thanks, Mom,” she said softly. “Where’s Dad?”

“I’m here.”

Both mother and daughter turned toward the voice, smiling when they saw Lawrence walking in. The traces of his exhaustion were still visible, but at least he no longer looked like the wreck he was the day before.

“How could I miss this?” Lawrence said as he stopped beside Jasmine, who lovingly held his arm. “And your mother is right — you look especially beautiful today, Melissa.”

Her smile brightened at her father’s words. The parents urged the artists to continue, apologizing for interrupting, and stood nearby, quietly admiring their daughter.

“I can’t believe she’s going to get married soon,” Jasmine murmured, her voice trembling slightly. “Just not long ago, she was so little.”

Lawrence’s expression softened. He reached for her hand, giving it a reassuring squeeze. When she looked up, he nodded once before turning his gaze back to Melissa.

It wasn’t a wedding yet, but to them, this moment felt no different. Their little girl was all grown up — and no matter how hard they tried, they couldn’t stop the emotion from welling in their eyes.

Meanwhile, in another room…

“Huh?” Justin blinked in disbelief as he entered the nearly empty room, finding Derek lying on the bed, playing video games. “Uh… Derek, what’s going on here?”

Derek didn’t even look up.

“Shouldn’t you be getting ready by now?” Justin pressed. “The party’s in a few hours.”

“Meaning I still have plenty of time,” Derek muttered, eyes glued to the screen. “Justin, stop pestering me.”

Justin plopped down on the couch, watching him. “I’m just saying, guests will start arriving before the event. So, those ‘few hours’ you think you have are actually, what, one hour? Maybe less?”

That got Derek’s attention. He paused his game and slowly looked over.

“Also,” Justin added pointedly, “the chairman will be there tonight. So, seriously, don’t screw this up. You fought for this engagement, remember? He was against it for years until Lola finally annulled it.”

He leaned forward, lowering his voice. “If you mess this up, the chairman’s not only going to scold you, he might actually cut you out of his will.”

“Shit!”

Without hesitation, Derek dropped his controller and bolted to the bathroom. Justin sighed, shaking his head.

“Unbelievable,” he muttered. “He’s getting less and less excited about this engagement every day.”

Whether it was selfishness or second thoughts, Justin couldn’t tell. All he knew was that this wasn’t the reaction he expected from his cousin.

“The chairman is one thing,” he mused, “but if his fiancée finds out he’s acting like this… that’s another disaster.”

He slumped back against the couch. “At this rate, I should’ve bet with Caullen that this engagement’s going to end in divorce.”

A beat passed, and his face soured.

“Actually, no — Caullen already bet on that.”

Meanwhile…

“Daddy?”

Atlas paused from reviewing his documents in his study, glancing down at the little girl leaning against his leg.

“What is it?”

“Mommy’s going to a party without us,” Chacha said, her voice small. “Will she be okay?”

“Why wouldn’t she be?” Atlas asked, picking her up and settling her on his lap. “Your mother is strong and smart. She wouldn’t go if she didn’t have a reason.”

“But those people are mean to her,” she pouted. “Shouldn’t we go protect her too?”

Before he could answer, there was a knock on the door. Both father and daughter turned to see Second peeking in, his face bright with excitement.

“Daddy!” he called. “Mommy’s done getting ready! You should see how pretty she looks!”

Atlas’s brow arched while Chacha gasped dramatically.

“I want to see! I want to see Mommy!” she squealed, hopping off Atlas’s lap and racing to the door.

Without a word, Atlas followed, his curiosity piqued. After all, this morning Lola had been spinning a roulette of outfit choices, unable to decide what to wear. He wondered which one she picked.

Together, the three of them headed to the mansion’s main hall, where Slater, Baby, Allen, and several bodyguards — Izu and Duke included — were already waiting.

“She didn’t want to dress up at first,” Slater bragged proudly, “but thanks to me, she’s going to be the most beautiful woman at that party! You can thank me for calling in my stylist friends.”

Allen chuckled awkwardly. “You really take care of her.”

“Of course I do!” Slater grinned smugly. “If I’m not useful, that’s another minus point for my brother.”

Allen just smiled faintly and glanced at Atlas, who had just arrived. As expected, Atlas didn’t react. After years of dealing with Slater, he’d mastered the art of ignoring him.

“Where is she?” Atlas asked dryly, stopping beside them.

“She’s coming!” Second exclaimed, bouncing with excitement.

Their enthusiasm — and Slater’s mysterious grin — caught everyone’s attention. It wasn’t unusual for them to be loud, but today, their energy felt… different.

“Oh! There she is!” Second announced, pointing at the stairs.

All heads turned at once.

Lola descended slowly, and every pair of eyes widened in unison. Slater’s proud grin froze. Meanwhile, Atlas blinked once, his gaze fixed on her.

“Wow…” Allen breathed. “She’s… definitely something.”

Before he could elaborate, Atlas said flatly, “Horrific.”

The room fell silent. Everyone exchanged awkward glances. They’d all been thinking it, but only Atlas had dared to say it out loud.

“Sis!” Slater cried dramatically, covering his mouth as if in despair. “Why… why are you like this? You’re truly a hopeless creature!”

Lola ignored him completely and beamed up at Atlas, unfazed by the collective horror.

“What do you think?” she asked brightly.

Atlas’s eyes flicked over her face, which looked as if she’d borrowed it from a particularly eccentric mannequin. And yet… he smiled faintly.

“Good.”

Everyone stared at him, stunned and horrified. EXCUSE ME?

Meanwhile, the twins burst out laughing.

“Whoever sees Mommy today will have nightmares!” Chacha giggled. “She’s a dream girl — literally!”

Everyone looked at the little girl in horror and mentally screamed: More like a nightmare — literally!
