Chapter 333: Tea Party I
Finally, the tea party arrived, with no conditions.

All the ladies invited today were clearly dolled up, wearing the finest and most expensive outfits in their collections. Their jewelry sparkled, their handbags exquisite. Though they usually dressed up every day, it was obvious that today was something special.

Even Celestine had added extra rings to her fingers, and gems worth millions dangled from her ears.

“I was very excited when I heard Mrs. Bennet had already accepted the invitation,” one lady mused, excitement gleaming in her eyes. “I wonder what she looks like.”

“Melissa said Mrs. Bennet is young and beautiful,” another added. “It’s a shame there’s nothing about her that I could find.”

It wasn’t just the internet. They had all used their connections to learn more about Mrs. Bennet. They wanted to know her likes, her dislikes, anything that could give them a head start. But there was nothing.

There was no news of the Bennet’s eldest son marrying, or any updates on him in the past five years. The Bennets were known for their privacy. Even without news, no one assumed Atlas was inactive or that this Mrs. Bennet was merely a title.

Who would underestimate the Bennets of Anteca?

“I think this will make the tea party more interesting,” Celestine said, capturing everyone’s attention. “We’ll meet Mrs. Bennet, and hopefully… she’ll be interested in getting to know us.”

Despite the wording, the women chuckled and nodded in agreement.

“But before that, I’m truly impressed by Melissa,” an older lady said, drawing everyone’s eyes to her. “She’s new to our club, yet she’s already bringing someone so elusive—and frankly, valuable.”

Melissa blushed, sensing the satisfaction in everyone’s gaze. “I’m just lucky,” she replied meekly.

“Luck?” Celestine chuckled. “Meeting someone like Mrs. Bennet isn’t luck, Melissa. I wouldn’t even call it a coincidence.”

“One must be in the same circle—or close to it—to meet someone like Mrs. Bennet,” another lady added knowingly. “Just like all of us. It’s no coincidence we’re here at this tea party.”

One of the younger ladies smiled. “We all once wanted to be part of these gatherings, didn’t we? And we’re not here out of luck.”

The other ladies chuckled in agreement. For them, Melissa must have worked hard to reach Mrs. Bennet, because there was no such thing as a mere coincidence. Even if luck existed, Melissa would need three lifetimes of it for this.

They were right, though. It wasn’t luck that bridged the Youngs and Mrs. Bennet. It wasn’t a coincidence. It was deliberate. They just didn’t know it yet.

Melissa bit her lower lip, pleased at how welcoming the ladies were making her feel. She was usually left out of their conversations, which often drifted to other topics.

Once Mrs. Bennet arrives…

Melissa shifted her eyes toward Celestine, noticing her unusually high spirits today.

I don’t think there’s anything that will take my spot in this club.

As the ladies chatted to pass the time, the head maid approached the long table, lowered her head, and whispered into Celestine’s ear.

“Oh?” Celestine’s smile widened, immediately catching everyone’s attention. Her eyes gleamed as she addressed the group. “Mrs. Bennet has arrived. Shall we welcome her together?”

Everyone’s smiles stretched, expecting Celestine to select only one or two “winners.” Instead, she invited all of them to greet Mrs. Bennet together, giving no head start for anyone.

The ladies happily rose from their seats to welcome her.

“Oh…” Celestine arched an eyebrow, standing under the mansion’s portico with ten ladies, all staring at the cars in the driveway.

Men in suits emerged from the vehicles, all neatly groomed. Their hair was perfectly styled, their suits without a crease, shoes polished to a mirror shine. Each wore thin black sunglasses concealing their eyes, earpiece cables coiled neatly behind their ears— the silent symbols of their duty.

“Feels like I’m watching the First Lady’s entourage,” one lady murmured, impressed. “Even I don’t have so many bodyguards.”

“The daughter of the Bennet family owns one of the largest security firms in the world,” another remarked. “She now leads a top cybersecurity brand. But before that, she deployed capable men to protect the world’s most influential people.”

All of them nodded, unsurprised by the professional bodyguards. Then, their attention shifted to a car. They held their breath as the first bodyguard reached for the backseat door.

Celestine straightened her posture, stepping down gracefully. Just as she approached the car, a hand reached out to hold the bodyguard’s arm. Everyone watched as Lola stepped out.

Their mouths fell open.

Melissa had not lied. Mrs. Bennet was stunning.

“That dress…” one lady covered her lips, while another added, “It’s from MEG’s new collection. That one that’s not yet released to the market.”

Celestine noticed too, showing interest without reacting. Lola lifted her slightly tinted glasses, revealing her striking eyes.

“Mrs. Bennet,” Celestine smiled warmly, “welcome. I’m delighted you made it.”

Lola’s pink lips curved into a smile. “After receiving such a sophisticated invitation, I was intrigued to see the tea party Miss Melissa spoke so highly of.”

“I hope you enjoy your time with us and make it worth your time,” Celestine said, gesturing gracefully. “Shall we?”

Lola nodded, following her lead. As they approached the ladies, they stopped to greet her. Melissa, meanwhile, was pushed to the back as the others rushed forward.

“Uh—” Melissa almost tripped, looking at the eager ladies.

Are they supposed to be this excited? She frowned. Well, I guess they are. It’s their first time meeting Mrs. Bennet, but I’ve already attended two teas with her.

Melissa stepped aside, letting the ladies pass. She didn’t have to rush. She was the reason Mrs. Bennet was here.

*****

Minutes later, the ladies had gone inside, leaving Lola’s bodyguards behind.

“So… this is what she meant by our punishment to make her look good?” Izu rubbed his side, glancing at a colleague nearby. “Stop crying. Shaving your beard isn’t a death sentence.”

“It’ll grow back,” another one yelled. “Just knock it off.”

“I’ve been trying to grow it,” the discreetly crying bodyguard clicked his tongue at them. “This punishment is nothing for you, but I’d rather run than do this. I feel naked.”

The others shook their heads, eyes fixed on their crying teammate. Without his sunglasses, everyone would see his swollen, red eyes. But then, silence fell on them as their mouths curved down.

This was not the punishment they expected.
