Chapter 325: Penny’s Sound Advice
“Sir Allen, there are a few things that Miss Scarlet hasn’t sent us yet,” Harvey called, running after Allen and stopping him near the chairman’s office. “Should I call her again to remind her?”

Conflict flickered in Harvey’s eyes; he knew Scarlet was “sick” and working from home, and that she had been handling her work remotely.

“You should,” Allen said, offering a reassuring nod. “I’m sure she won’t mind. Scarlet’s been doing a lot, so she’ll appreciate the reminder.”

Harvey heaved a sigh of relief and nodded. Just then, the phone in his hand lit up. He checked it and flashed Allen a smile.

“She already sent them,” he chuckled lightly, a hint of relief in his voice.

Allen just nodded, about to continue when he noticed Harvey was still following him.

“Where are you headed?” he asked curiously. “Going to the chairman?”

“Well, he asked me to do something, so I will report to him directly,” Harvey replied.

“I see.”

With that, both men made their way to Atlas’s office. Allen knocked once before opening the door carefully, out of habit. But the moment the door swung open, they froze, caught by what they heard.

“Let’s get married.”

Allen and Harvey’s breaths hitched, and their eyes widened. The door was already open just enough to see Lola standing in front of the desk, but not Atlas.

“…”

Slowly, Allen pulled the door shut again. When it clicked fully, Harvey gasped and turned to his boss.

“Sir, why did you close it fully?” he blurted, forgetting they were in a work setting.

Allen sighed heavily. “I want to listen too, but I also want to live.”

Who wouldn’t want to hear how that conversation would go? Atlas… getting married? So soon? Anyone would want to witness that. However, regardless of their curiosity, their lives mattered more.

Regret and frustration shone in their eyes as they looked at each other. After a moment, both stared again at the door. Just when they were expecting the other to walk away, they simultaneously pressed their ears against the door, trying to catch more without putting themselves at risk.

Meanwhile, inside Atlas’s office…

“Let’s get married.”

Atlas stopped cleaning his desk of unnecessary papers when those words suddenly flew out of her mouth. He looked up slowly, brows rising as he studied the determined look on her face.

“Now?” he asked.

She nodded. “Yep. We still have time to register our marriage today if we go now, but no rush!”

“…”

Atlas blinked. This was not what he expected from her today. If he had anticipated this, he wouldn’t have set aside all the papers on the table.

For a moment, neither spoke. They just stared at each other. Atlas slowly leaned back in his seat, tilting his head slightly.

“You just asked me to marry you?” he asked again and she nodded in return. “Why?”

Surely, Lola wouldn’t suddenly bring this up without reason. Even when their relationship was steady, she had never agreed to his proposals—not once. She often spoke about “marriage” but never treated it lightly.

Lola smiled and sauntered toward his desk, propping herself against the side. Her eyes remained locked on him as she spoke.

“Because that’s what I wanted to tell you when I came here,” she explained, a wide grin stretching across her face. “But then I remembered we had already spoken about our stance on marriage. We’ll only get married because we are both ready to take the next step together.”

“Are you not yet ready?”

She shrugged. “I don’t know. Ask me next week.”

Atlas remained silent, keeping his attention fixed on her. After a moment, he reached out for her hand, guiding her toward him. Lola allowed it, and she ended up sitting on his lap comfortably.

“Did I scare you?” she chuckled, resting her arms lightly over his shoulders. “I did, didn’t I?”

“Not at all.”

“How come?”

He shrugged, no words needed. He wouldn’t mind registering their marriage right now. One call, and she could already be Mrs. Bennet.

“And why were you thinking of that on your way here?” he asked, curiosity sharpening his voice. “Surely there’s a reason.”

“Amala called me,” she explained. “She told me that Lawrence Young has been taking out huge loans. He’s borrowed from multiple banks, and now he’s even getting funds from loan sharks.”

“She’s not worried about the banks because they follow legal procedures. But loan sharks… they’re ruthless. They’ll drain the life out of anyone.”

Worse yet, even if the borrower dies, loan sharks continue to harass the family members. Being Lawrence’s daughter, Lola didn’t want to be dragged into that unnecessary trouble.

“So I thought about changing my surname,” she said, smacking her lips and smiling at him. “But I don’t want to bend my view of marriage just because of him. Especially not because of him. He’s not going to affect me—or us. He won’t control our lives.”

“What a shame,” Atlas muttered.

Lola lightly slapped his shoulder, making him raise his brows in surprise.

“Amala wants to deal with it right now so we won’t have to in the future,” she continued. “But I told her to let them be.”

“And why is that?” he asked, tilting his head. “That could be a problem later if you don’t. She’s not wrong—Amelia—”

“It’s Amala,” she corrected. “Atlas, Amala is not just a friend of mine. She’s like an elder, like a parent, a sister who listens to my orders.”

“Okay.”

“But yeah,” Lola smacked her lips again. “What I’m saying is, I don’t need to worry about the loan sharks or what they might do to affect my business. But I do want them to affect their lives.”

“You’re not worried?”

Her smile stretched until her eyes squinted. “Why would I? My boyfriend’s going to protect me, right?”

Penny’s sound advice: use him to your advantage. My husband loved it, and First Brother liked it when I asked for his help.

“…” Atlas stared at her, expression unreadable. Yet, she could feel his satisfaction. His hand moved from her hips to a button on his desk.

Lola glanced at the desk as it slowly moved upward. When she looked back at him, a very small, knowing smile appeared on his face.

“It’s the same height as that kitchen counter.”
