The Archangel of Death - Chapter 94
94: Investigation end 94: Investigation end Chapter 94 I kept my eyes on Jack while he went through many emotions at once.
Pain, sadness, regret.
I kept my eye close on him, seeing if there was anything I could catch on to.
Unfortunately, all of his emotions were real.
[Unfortunate?] ‘Yeah.
He’s broken already.
I thought he would take some time.’ [Why is that a bad thing?] ‘I wanted to torment him more.’ I wanted to torture him more.
I wanted to break him more.
But now, I can only do it up to fifty.
I was planning on doing it until a hundred.
[You have torment scales?] ‘Who doesn’t?’ “Do you want me to?” When he didn’t reply for a while, I spoke again to snap him out of his frozen state.
“Stop talking.” He mumbled slightly.
“She was murdered by a man named Garder.
He first killed her.
Then when she was dead, he shaved her head.” I began and when I got to this point, he shouted, “Stop talking!!!” Of course, I didn’t stop, “Then Garder sewed hair into her head with small needles expertly, all while her body lay on the cold hard floor.” “Stop talking!!!” He shouted again and stood up to attack me.
Alas, he was once again held back by his restraints.
“Then he took off her clothes and used a small knife to harvest all of her organs.” I continued while he was rabidly trying to attack me, held by chains.
“But you should know that, don’t you?” I asked.
There was no answer.
Of course, there wasn’t when he was trying to do anything to get to me.
His wrists where he was bound were bloodied and it might be the same for his ankles too.
Since he wasn’t answering, I answered for him, “You were there after all so you should know, right?
You saw with your eyes peeled.” I said.
He didn’t stop and of course, I didn’t stop.
“But you know the funny part,” I spoke again while he was starting to lose hope and continued, “You admired it.
You admired how cleanly he did everything.
That is why when you killed Aurora and Maya with the excuse of revenge on Garder, you weren’t satisfied.” Upon further investigation, I found out that Garder had two daughters.
Garder wasn’t a simple commoner.
He was a contract killer.
He was hired by Rickston to kill Sierra because Sierra was going to leave him.
Rickston’s position heavily depended on the support from Sierra’s maiden family.
If Sierra had left him, it would have been an end for him.
So he hired Garder to have her killed.
What he didn’t expect was witnesses.
And no other witness he could simply get rid of but his own son.
Jack was an intelligent boy even then and he grew up hating his father because he knew what kind of a person his father was.
However, against his father, no matter how much he hated him, he couldn’t do anything.
But what he could do was get revenge against his mother’s killer.
Alas, Garder was bedridden by the time Jack grew up.
Garder was a helpless old man by the time he was capable of having his revenge so he took revenge on what Garder held dear the most, his daughters.
He killed them the same way Garder killed his mother.
He repeated every step the same way.
It should have been the end but as I said, he admired the artwork of Garder and when he killed those two, he couldn’t get it.
He couldn’t get satisfaction.
He couldn’t help but think that there was something missing.
So he struck again.
This time another girl with green eyes and then later on, he would shave their heads, sew blonde hair that he would have harvested from a magical monster, and then harvest his victim’s organs lastly.
The green eyes were a requirement because Garder had green eyes.
And because of that, Garder’s daughters had green eyes too.
“You killed Aurora and Maya but you couldn’t get satisfaction from it.
So you found another green-eyed girl and imagined killing Aurora and Maya again.
But again, it was imperfect so there was no satisfaction so you did it again, and again, and again.” I kept on going while he slumped back in his chair.
“And then it became an obsession.
Whenever you would see a green-eyed girl, you would want to kill her and repeat the process of your artwork.” I ended here to wait and see if he would utter a response.
Fortunately, he didn’t disappoint and said, “So what?
What did I do so wrong, huh?
What did I do so wrong?
I just wanted to complete it.
The art, the beauty of it.
I just wanted to do it.” “Is that why you killed them and continued to kill more even though your revenge was finished?” I asked.
“Yes.
That is why killed them all.
But please understand, that I just wanted to complete it.
The beauty, you should have seen it.” He said referring to his mother’s death.
“It was such a beautiful scene that even after all these years, I can’t get it out of my head.” “Agghhh!!!
I had almost succeeded.
No.
No.
I would have already succeeded.
It was father’s fault.
He wouldn’t sew fast enough.
It’s his fault!!!!” And then, he just kept on rambling while I watched in pity.
‘What a pity.
I’m not satisfied.’ [One psychopath to another] ‘I am one.
Only I am mean to those I don’t like, not everyone.’ “We’re done here,” I said and stood up.
I couldn’t waste any more time here to listen to his useless ramblings.
We had his confession and the witness was none other than the first elder of the Cortum empire.
There is nothing that needs to be done here anymore.
I came out of the room to see everyone’s shocked expression.
I was familiar with those expressions.
I had made those expressions myself when I investigated a variety of criminals that made me doubt humanity.
“I think I am done here.
First elder, do you have a minute?” I asked.
My words snapped everyone out of their shock and look at me like they were looking at a lunatic.
‘How are okay despite all of that?’ That’s what their expressions seem to be saying.
“What… what do you need?” The first elder asked.
“Before you leave, I have something to talk about so please wait before that,” I replied to which he simply nodded.
I turned to Desmond and asked, “You have the criminal’s confession.
Will that be enough?” “Yes.
It would be.” He quietly replied as if in a daze.
“And what will happen to him?” I asked.
“He will be taken to the Cortum empire.
Although a criminal, he will be punished in the empire.” Instead of Desmond, it was the first elder who replied.
“I see.” I simply nodded and left.
My payment would have to wait until Monday so there was nothing left for me to do here anymore.
====== “Are you sure he has returned?” A masked man draped in black clothes from head to toe asked one of his four companions similarly dressed as him and hiding in the shadows of a large villa.
“Yes.” His companion replied.
The first man nodded and they quietly entered the villa.
They crossed the front lawn carefully so they wouldn’t be seen.
As soon as they reached the villa, one of the masked men knelt down and the rest used him as a foothold to throw themselves to the second floor of the villa.
Their movements were quiet as the word quiet could be.
No wonder even the knights standing closer to them couldn’t notice any movements.
They entered the second floor and quietly made their way to their destination where their target was supposed to be sleeping.
They suddenly stopped when they noticed a girl with pink hair heading in their direction.
Even though they were good at remaining hidden, if noticed from up close, they could be spotted so the leader signaled his men to take care of the girl quietly.
They got ready to do so but just as the girl got closer to them, she turned and entered a room before they could make a move.
The leader heaved a sigh of relief and signaled his men to stay put and focus on their target.
The party then once again moved to the room their target was located in.
The room wasn’t guarded by any sort of knight so there wasn’t a hitch entering that room.
As soon as they did, they faced complete darkness.
There wasn’t even a candle burning inside the room.
They waited for a few seconds before their eyes got used to the darkness.
They could see a figure lying on the bed, but since the figure was covered with a blanket, they couldn’t tell who it was.
But who else could it be except for their target?
They were inside his room after all.
Besides it would be easier for them to approach if their target was covered in a blanket so they carefully and slowly, made their way toward their target.
However, as soon as they were in the strike range, a creak was heard.
The assassins hurriedly turned around because this creek hadn’t come from the opening of the door but from a chair inside the room.
Turning over there, they could see a figure sitting there in the dark.
They couldn’t make out who this person was but if he hadn’t alarmed the guards yet, then he must be a strong one.
The assassins exchanged glances and wordlessly came to a decision.
One of the assassins’ turned to their target with a dagger in hand while the rest jumped at the figure.
Just as the assassin drove the dagger through the blanket, he heard painful screams from the other side.
But his focus wasn’t on that, his focus was on the sensation beneath his dagger.
He removed the blanket only to see he had stabbed a pillow.
He panicked and turned to his companions only to see them out cold on the floor while the figure spoke, “That brat was right it seems.” Before the assassin could react, suddenly the figure who was sitting on the chair across the room was in front of him and grabbed him by his neck.
From this up close, the assassin could see who it was.
“Then I figure you should know where Rickston is?” The first elder of the Cortum empire asked the terrified assassin.
====== “It is strange for you to visit at this time of the knight.” The lady in front of me asked while covered in a robe underneath which I assumed was her sleeping attire.
The mature lady with black hair and green eyes in front of me wasn’t entirely pleased with my visit after midnight.
No doubt she was roused from her sleep to welcome me.
But I’m sure she won’t be mad after I give her what I was here to give.
“I assume you have heard of the verdict?” I asked the lady whose name was Auriella while taking a sip of tea from my cup.
“Yes.
And I thank you for that.” She replied.
Although she was grateful, she was also dissatisfied.
Many things mattered from the looks of it.
“You are worried that Jack wouldn’t be punished very harshly?” I asked.
It made sense after all.
The empire didn’t care about what happened here.
At most, they would throw Jack in a dungeon to rot for the rest of his life.
“You expect me to be happy knowing my sister’s murderer would be leniently punished?” She sarcastically asked with anger flowing through her everything.
Expression, eyes, and words.
I chuckled which seemed to have angered her even more.
She was about to say something when I said, “Well, My Lady, since you believe that to be the case, why don’t you punish him yourself?” At my question, she was confused.
She didn’t ask because she knew it wasn’t exactly a question.
