The Archangel of Death - Chapter 90
90: Another mission 90: Another mission Chapter 90 “It’s a dump.” If one expression or a sentence could describe what I was seeing, then it would be this accurate sentence.
“Where am I?” That might be the correct question to ask in this situation because even I was confused about where I was.
Whether I was in a dump or in a teacher’s office.
That’s right!
The teacher’s office.
To be more precise, Michelle’s.
You rarely find women like this these days.
Elegant to the word elegant itself and dirty to the word dirty itself.
AT THE SAME TIME!!!
Now as to cover how I came here in the first place?
Well, that is my own fault.
Sometimes, I shouldn’t be a smartass and just try to go with the plot.
===== “And that is how a circuit is complete.
If you want to change the mana output, you would have to attach similar nature circuits.
Opposite nature circuits would either dispel mana or explode on the spot so be careful when dealing with different nature circuits.
The most common mistake is made when a fire blessed makes a circuit but the mana provider would be ice blessed.” Michelle explained a lot which I conveniently listened to from one ear, stored and processed the necessary points in my head, and threw out the unnecessary parts.
It was useless to me in the practical field, but it was important to know all of this for the theoretical tests.
It was once again only me in the class today from my group and today was the last class of this week.
In the first place, it was my honed patience that I was even sitting here.
Although I don’t care about this academy life, however, anything but the first place is a disgrace to me.
If any of the girls had shown the same enthusiasm, I would have never asked them to skip classes.
[You’re quite competitive] ‘Yeah, a bad habit I developed in childhood.’ Been trying to get rid of it since adulthood but no matter what, I can’t.
It just rubs me the wrong way to be second.
“There must be something more interesting over there than my lecture, correct?
Student Adrian.” While I was remembering the old days, a gentle voice rudely interrupted my reminiscence and that voice belonged to my lovely teacher, Michelle.
“Well, the ceiling is quite well done.
I was just admiring that.” I replied honestly.
Of course, she didn’t know that I was also listening to her lecture even though with zero interest.
“Then you weren’t paying attention to my lecture?” She asked next with a pouty face.
Someone, please tell her it isn’t cute for her age.
It only concerns me against her.
“Oh no.
I was very interested in what you just said.” I replied.
Technically, I wasn’t lying so it was okay.
“Then you have no problem with coming to the board and repeating to the class, do you?” She asked, with the same expression which I wasn’t the only one to find concerning.
“Would it matter if I said no?” I asked with a straight face.
I wasn’t making any kind of expression in front of this woman.
Who knows what kind of intentions she has against the innocent me?
“No, it wouldn’t.” She simply replied which meant I had no choice but to go up there.
But do I seem like an amateur?
Ha!
I have read enough novels to know where this is going.
The genius student doesn’t pay attention, so the teacher, to teach him a lesson, calls him to the front board to solve the question.
But despite the expectations of the teacher, the student brilliantly solves the question which leads to the student becoming under the radar of the teacher.
But NOT ME!
I won’t be fooled.
I won’t go by the script!
This is why I won’t be solving this to cement myself as a potential candidate in Michelle’s eyes.
[It’s because she has a modest butt, isn’t it?] ‘Now, now.
You are saying that as if I only care about women’s appearances.’ [Is having a big behind, not your must criteria?] ‘So far yes.’ Anyway, the cusp of the story is, that I won’t be doing anything that would make me stand out.
This also means that I won’t be solving this question which looks so easy that even an eleven-year-old could do it.
NO!
Stop it.
Don’t get swept away with it.
Remember the goal.
Remember to defy the plot.
I’m the one who defies.
[…] [Drama queen] ‘In this instance, it would be king.’ “I don’t know how to solve this question,” I said after looking at the board while bickering with Allison.
“You don’t?
I was just teaching it.” She replied with a little frown.
“And I was admiring the ceiling,” I replied sincerely.
“Is that so?” She asked skeptically and then said, “Since you can’t solve it, you will have to be punished.” She said while throwing me a bunch of keys.
“These are the keys to my office.
Clean it up before the lecture finishes.” What?
Why would I do that?
“Don’t leave a speck of dirt.
If there is any grime found when I come after this lecture, then you will have to clean the toilets too.” She said before I could complain.
I was still going to complain when she beat me to it, “Hurry up, student Adrian.
There is not much time left before this lecture ends.” This flat-butt wench.
Huuu… Deep breaths.
Don’t get swept up in it.
It is your own fault.
That’s right.
No regrets about your own decisions made.
===== [No regrets, huh?] ‘Shut up.’ If this was a rom-com anime, this would be the classic beginning of the student-teacher shenanigans.
Funny word, shenanigans.
Expresses a lot of things in one word.
But what I can’t get is how can a girl be so dirty.
Girls are so clean that they even write clean.
No use whining about it now.
Should have just solved that question.
[But how could you?] [You’re the one who defies~] ‘You’re loving this, aren’t you?’ I started cleaning everything.
Since I was here, I wasn’t going to do a half-assed job but going to do it perfectly as perfect as it can get because that is what suits me.
In just ten minutes, three garbage bags were filled, one with trash from her eatery, one with trash from her documents, and the last one may have some important things in it but I definitely didn’t do it to get back at her.
Anyway, then I cleaned the whole office and since I was done in half an hour and there was still time before the lecture ended, I took a bath in her office bathroom.
They have everything, don’t they?
Once I was done, I changed to a new suit and sat in the guest chair to pass the time.
I started practicing my healing skills because I had nothing to do.
Ever since it was upgraded to a new form, all sorts of new things were added to the ‘heal’ skill.
Such as one of its applications was a minor regeneration effect along with heal.
It wasn’t possible to regenerate an entire limb but it was enough to regrow rotten flesh or a finger at least.
Maybe at higher levels, it would have better effects.
[But you don’t need that, do you?] Actually, I do.
Using the life element for that is a waste in my opinion.
It would be better to use heal than waste the element of life since it is quite difficult to grow.
Recharging it is not that difficult but even that takes at least a month so it should be saved for emergency purposes only.
While I was practicing, the door opened and Michelle walked in.
As soon as she did, she hurriedly turned back to check the name on the door to make sure she hadn’t walked inside someone else’s office.
“Shocking, isn’t it?” I asked with the same smile she had before.
She didn’t reply but hurriedly masked her shocked expression while saying, “Good job.” Ahh… Would you look at her?
Acting as if everything was completely normal.
She didn’t say anything but walked up to her seat.
I stood up to leave when she interrupted, “I haven’t permitted you to leave yet.” ‘What now?’ I thought annoyingly inwardly and sat back in the chair.
She grabbed something from her drawer and slid it across the table.
It was a file.
When I opened it, it seemed to be a mission.
I quirked my eyebrow questioningly at her and she replied, “I need you to solve this.
It was a mission given to me but I am giving it to you.
Of course, you will be adequately rewarded.” I had no problem with that.
I just had one question, “What kind of reward?” She didn’t seem surprised and said, “Anything from grades to skills or crystals.” “Money.” I replied which surprised her a bit, “Give me money.” What use did the grades have for me when I was already number one in the ranking?
As for skills and crystals, I had no use for skills and I already had a lot of crystals.
She got over her surprise fairly quickly and said, “Very well.
If you solve this case, I will reward you with two million gold coins.
Is that enough?” Daughter of a major noble family indeed.
She is saying that amount of money so nonchalantly that a common man wouldn’t even see it in his dreams.
“We have a deal.” I didn’t need more since it wasn’t needed.
Never be greedy when it comes to someone you know.
“I’m sure you will be able to work on it during the weekend.
Since it isn’t an official academy mission, I can’t grant you leave from classes.
I hope you can adjust your schedule.” She said while I was giving the case a read.
It was fairly simple actually so I doubted I would need more than two days if all the factors were available.
I nodded and simply stood up to leave.
“I would like to be paid by a quarter up front,” I said because I needed to deliver 500,000 gold to Balder by tomorrow night and I hadn’t made any sales.
She simply nodded and replied, “I will have a servant of mine deliver it to your manor by this evening.” She then waved her hand which would often be used to shake away pests.
And I would be the said pest.
Well, anything for a paying customer.
I left Michelle’s office and then the school building since Michelle’s class was the last class of the day.
Straight away, I went to the eastern barrack because once again, that was the territory where the crime had been committed.
Now the case was very simple.
A guy killed three girls but upon investigation, it was found that the number of victims was up to 29.
The problem was that there was nothing tying this guy to the crime.
The bodies were found but no matter what, any evidence regarding it wasn’t found no matter what.
Who killed them?
How they died?
Nothing.
The only lead tying them with the guy is that witnesses reported him having seen with the murdered victims.
The only reason this case was being investigated despite the guy being a noble was because his last victim was also a noble.
The same ranking noble as him.
Anyway, since there is no evidence no matter how hard they tried, they tried making the guy confess.
That’s where the second problem popped up.
Since the guy is a noble, they can’t use physical violence and have no choice but to resort to making him confess by interrogating him.
That is where the third problem is.
Whoever goes in to interrogate that guy, comes out crying.
Multiple reports say that he uses the investigator’s words against them and then links them to their lives and slowly breaks the investigators.
“Sounds like a good psychologist to me,” I murmured while giving the file a detailed read.
Now there are two ways that I can solve this.
One is by finding evidence and the second is by making him confess.
The former is a bit lengthy but the latter one is fast, however, I like to be thorough, and besides, a perfect case can only be solved if all scenarios are covered.
I will find evidence and make him confess at the same time.
And since he likes breaking people so much, I might do that on the way too.
Just a tiny bit.
[Your inner sadism is surfacing] ‘Is that what it is?’ No wonder it felt good when I thought about it.
