The Archangel of Death - Chapter 80
80: Making dresses 80: Making dresses Chapter 80 I had no problem with giving Sophien what she demanded.
She didn’t want it in the first place anyway.
A girl like Sophien only cares for her research and I have no doubt that she is going to use this in the future to ask for something else in return.
[A recipe for another potion would be my best guess] Or something of similar research value.
What I am trying to say is that she doesn’t have an interest in money.
She just wants a card for the future.
If I don’t comply with her demands, she can use her right as a shareholder to hinder my business until I meet her demands.
It’s a good strategy I have to say.
Impressive even.
[But she doesn’t know that there would be no other investors] Exactly.
Thirty percent would have been a major share if there would have been other investors.
But in this case, there are only five shareholders.
For now.
[Five?] ‘Rose, Alicia, and Laura.
Including Sophien, that’s five.’ But the major shareholder at fifty percent would still be me.
So their opinions would be accounted for and if all the other shareholders are against me, only then it would lead to a vote.
But if even one shareholder is with me, I would be the dominant party.
There would be nothing Sophien would be able to do then.
[You’re smart] She’s not the only one who can think of the future.
I am who I am because of my foresight, not because my father handed me the seat of the CEO.
===== After the Vermillion party left for the good, I asked Rose, “Get me the head butler.” The business was set up.
It was time to set the wheels in motion.
Rose shortly returned with the head butler with whom I didn’t have much interaction.
I need him now though because he is familiar with the people of this city.
I am not.
“You wished to see me, Your Highness.” He asked, properly bowing and stuff I didn’t bother with.
“Yeah.
Get me tailors.
They have to be good.
Very good and they have to be honest.
Also, get a few mages who are good at handling mana crystals.
And some smelter blacksmiths who can smelt cores and crystals without mana leaking out of them.
and Before heading out, construct these in the backyard.” I instructed in one breath and he listened to every word of it.
He nodded and replied, “It will be done in an hour, Your Highness.” He left after replying and Rose, who was standing on the side, looked at me curiously.
“It’s for a business Rose.
We are all about to be merchants.” I spoke, quelling some of the curiosity that Rose had.
===== “These are the chosen experts in their respective fields.” The head butler, whose name was apparently Hauser said while a collection of people with different professions stood in front of me.
The mages were almost all women with some men mixed in.
The tailors were the same, mostly women but some men as well as for the smelters, they were all men with one single woman with a large build and buff body.
However, that one woman was doing an amazing wonder at standing among all those men.
‘What do you think?’ I asked my trusted companion.
[It would be better to interview them] [Even though I can measure potential, experience is another thing] She was right.
Although the blacksmith old man back in the empire was far too low in terms of skills in comparison to the other blacksmiths, his skills were more patient than many others.
In other words, he filled my requirements.
I don’t want talented people but those who fill my requirements.
“Welcome.” I began.
“You must all be curious why people of all different professions are gathered here together like this.” My beginning speech attracted everyone’s attention and once all eyes were on me, I continued.
“I will today, start a merchant company.
A company that would make a fortune for sure.
A fortune so vast that those who are here, won’t lack anything for the rest of their lives.” First a little honey.
Then the hatchet.
“But, it will be only for those who are selected here today.” When I mentioned a competition, they all turned to stare at each other.
[No 17, 22, 2, 13, 29] Mhm.
“But being selected,” I once again continued and the murmurs stopped and I was once again the center of attention.
“Doesn’t mean that is all.
You don’t do well; I have no need for you.
So if you want to swim in gold for the rest of your lives, an equal hard effort will have to be invested in my company.” I ended my speech here.
Now all I needed was for an input and then test each of them one by one.
[No 9, 7, 23, 12, 15, 6] ‘Are you sure?’ The number sixteen Allison was pointing at was a skinny man for a smelter.
Even though I hadn’t considered him, Allison was recommending him.
[Blessing: …] My eyes widened at the blessing that Allison showed to me regarding the skinny man.
I quickly masked my expression and said, “Now I will interview everyone separately.
We will begin with the mages.” The interviews began and the numbers that Allison mentioned were 2, 17, and 22.
My focus was on the three of them especially.
Two of them were talented but the last one was doubting.
Her blessing wasn’t special as well.
‘Are you sure about her?’ [Hint: Novel] That was strange.
“Miss Stephanie, you said that you have experience regarding enchantments.
Can you tell me what area that is specifically?” “Defense, Your Majesty.” She replied, even slipping the appropriate title due to her nervousness but I wasn’t interested in that.
What I was trying to remember was even an acute detail about the novel regarding this woman but I found nothing.
Still, Allison is a hell lot of annoying but her trust can’t be doubted.
“I see.
Except for Miss Terrell, Mister Tanner, and Miss Stephanie, everyone else can leave.
You can receive the payment from the servant before going out for your troubles.” I instructed and although many mages were disappointed and some were outright dissatisfied, seeing my status, no one expressed any kind of emotion verbally.
“You three can wait in the next room.
Wait there.” I instructed the three I had asked.
Numbers 13 and 29 were tailors and both were women.
Their skills were good but there was no plot interest about them.
Still, seeing as they were very talented in their field, I decided to hire both of them while excusing the rest.
Numbers 9, 7, 23, 12, 15, and 6 were the smelters.
Number nine was the buff woman while number 6 was the skinny man.
“How should I call you?” I asked the sole woman.
“I am Beatrice but I am Berta, Your Highness.” Surprisingly, her voice was very soft contrary to her threatening appearance.
Her skin was mostly exposed with only her chest and waist covered in tight clothes.
She was wearing long boots to covered almost half of her legs.
Her skin was bronze in color and her long black hair and black eyes constructed a woman of certain tastes.
[Pervert] I chose to ignore that and said, “Well, Berta, you said that your skills are not that great.
Why say that when everyone else is trying to flatter me?” Maybe that was her point that attracted Allison.
Honesty.
“You are a man of power, Your Highness.
Any mistakes would lead me to a lot of trouble.” She replied.
I chuckled at her reply.
Like I said, hard-working.
I would give them a lot of wealth but that wealth also comes with a lot of risk.
Any mistake would not be forgiven easily.
“Do you see yourself as a hard worker?” I asked again.
She nodded and replied, “If there is one thing I am proud of, it’s hard work, Your Highness” I nodded in return and replied, “Well then I am sure most of your mistakes can be overlooked.” The rest of the men weren’t interesting but just experts so I didn’t waste much time on them.
I was, however, immensely interested in the last one.
[You are?] ‘Shut up.’ “State your name and your purpose in coming here,” I asked the skinny man.
“My name is Skinner.
I’m not much talented but I always dreamed of following in my father’s footsteps.
I am only here because no one elsewhere hired me.” He replied.
‘I’m having mixed feelings about this one.’ [In the end, it is you who have to make a decision] It was a difficult decision.
My gut was telling me this guy wasn’t worth it but Allison’s opinion couldn’t be ignored that easily.
“Very well.” I replied and said, “Except for Miss Beatrice aka Berta, Colter, Stinson, Terence, Boyle, and Skinner, everyone else can leave.” The rest left with a disappointed expression.
The reason why there were so many smelters was because they had the most work.
“Welcome, you eleven individuals are the first ever to be the employees of my company.” I spoke and then addressed the objective at hand, “Our task is to create enchanted clothes that have defensive and other aesthetic properties.” “For that, the smelters would expertly smelt slime cores and fashion them into threads without wasting mana.
It will be difficult but I am sure the people I have selected can do what I have said.” I described the task of the smelters but they didn’t ask questions.
The reason, most of them could do it.
Only Skinner was troubled but I had plans for him.
I decided to go with Allison’s advice after all.
“There will be mana in those threads.
That’s where the mages would come in.
You will enchant spells of different kinds on the threads.
There will be a variety of enchantments to be cast and all of them will be cast using mana crystals provided.” I next discussed the job of the mages.
All three of them nodded as it wasn’t much difficult for them to do.
It would have been if they had to use their own mana but since mana crystals would be on the house, their task was very much easy.
“And as for the tailors, I don’t think I have to tell you that you will be making dresses using those threads.
I am sure you are both expert enough to do it without damaging the enchantments.” I started the tailor’s tasks who also nodded since the task seemed easy enough.
In the first place, the mages would make sure that the enchantments aren’t so easily volatile that scissors can cut them.
“Now, you have a night to work in harmony, if one person makes a mistake, everyone’s work is destroyed so if I see any discrimination because of professional differences and even status, I would not take it very kindly.
I want you all to know, you are replaceable.” I told them harshly.
They needed to be aware.
I was sure the biggest problem regarding this would stem from the mages so I had to warn them sternly.
They all nodded and I nodded in return.
I pulled out about a hundred C- rank slime cores and said, “This is for the trial attempts.
It should be enough to make a few dresses.
The setup has already been completed.
I need three dresses of this design ready by the morning.” I gave them dress designs that I had designed myself and instructed.
All of them nodded.
I had already instructed the head butler to construct all the necessary setup hours ago before he even went to get the people.
“Keep an eye on them.
Make sure there are no mishaps.” I instructed Rose who nodded and left with the workers.
I don’t expect them to make the dresses on the first try but I am sure that after some trial and error, they will succeed in making the required dresses.
As I said, the only problem that there was because of the difference in status.
For that, Rose is sufficient enough.
After all, in the olden days, workers were disciplined with a stick.
Literally.
