The Archangel of Death - Chapter 77
77: New additions (Bonus Chapter) 77: New additions (Bonus Chapter) Chapter 77 “Oh, it’s you.” She loosened up once she saw who it was.
I was amused by her reaction and pointed at her chin where there were traces of her drool and said, “You might want to clean that up a bit.” She touched her chin and instantly swiped her cuff to remove her drool while her visage turned a little red indicating her embarrassment.
“Thanks.” She said.
“Rough night?” I asked while placing my bag on my chair.
“No night at all.
I was up doing this all night.” She showed me the assignment we had gotten on Friday due today.
“Done?” I continued to ask.
“Not even close.
I came here earlier thinking the atmosphere in the class would help me concentrate but I ended up sleeping.” She explained her reason for coming here so early.
“Nothing new for you, huh?” I jokingly remarked, signaling Layla’s usual sleeping behavior in the class during lectures.
“Yeah, I cannot even defend myself on that.” She said, getting back in her seat.
“You want some help with that?” I asked, seeing that we were getting along fairly well.
“Really?” Her eyes twinkled at my offer and she readily accepted, “Please, please.
I would be so grateful to you.
I can’t have another D on my assignments.” “Sure, why not.” I smiled and moved to the seat in front of her and got to work.
Although the assignment we obtained was regarding mana and I couldn’t use mana, I could still understand the theory greatly from my knowledge from the library and the imperial library.
It wasn’t anything difficult.
Just because I can’t use math in real life, doesn’t mean I haven’t learned it.
Similarly, I excel at everything.
Even at something I can’t do.
“So you just have to add and connect these two circuits with the main circuits so the main circuit doesn’t collapse on itself.
It does create problems in the delivery efficiency but it is optimal for pressure.
Without this process, the circuit would either collapse after some time or explode when a heavy amount of mana passes through it.” I explained the process in great detail and in just half an hour, we were done.
“How did you do that?” She asked, her mouth wide open which coupled with her features, was very cute.
“It’s easy.” I simply replied.
I wasn’t being humble, it really was.
“Even Sophie can’t do it so quickly let alone explain it in so simple words.” She replied with the same astonishment only this time her mouth was closed.
“Sophie?
You mean Sophien?” I asked to clarify.
“Yep.” She replied.
Wow.
I wonder how she would react if I called her like that.
“Well, you just have to break everything down, solve it, and then construct it back again.
It sounds difficult but it is very easy once you get used to it.” I replied to her earlier amazement.
“Is that so?
It does sound difficult.
I don’t know if I would ever get used to it.” She replied while overlooking the assignment once again.
“You know,” she said that garnered my attention and then continued, “You are definitely not like the rumors surrounding you.” I was amused at her remark so I asked, “What kind of rumors?” “That you often force yourself on girls and bed with wives of many nobles.” She replied with her usual expression, not the slightest hint of disgust anywhere.
“I don’t know.
Can’t really confirm that myself.” I said while pointing at my head.
“Oh yeah, you lost your memory some time ago.” She looked at my gesture and then said, “Sophie said that you forced yourself on her once too.
She said she beat the living hell out of you.” Now I realize why Sophien hates me so much.
it appears we do have some history.
Well, she and Adrian do but same thing.
She recounted my story with Sophien and then said, “But now I can’t say hers might entirely be true.
Seeing as how you are.” She isn’t saying this just because but because she truly did measure my character this quickly.
It is impressive, to say the least.
Although I didn’t put up a fake front in front of her, it was still impressive how quickly she read me along with the theories I was teaching her.
“I know it is me I’m saying this about, but Sophien is probably right,” I replied, agreeing with Sophien completely given the nature of Adrian.
“And how are you so sure?
You say you don’t remember anything.” She stated a point in my defense.
“Well, it is what everyone said,” I replied.
Everyone’s testimony so far paint Adrian as a scumbag so there might be truth somewhere in there.
“And you are going to believe others?” She countered.
“It’s not the people that I trust.
It’s what I know.
I know Rose or Alicia wouldn’t lie to me.” Rose was abused by Adrian, that much is true.
And Alicia was also forced by Adrian, which is also true provided by those who are my allies.
“Oh yeah.
There is a rumor that you tried to do the same to Alicia as well but seeing how you two are, I guess that rumor is baseless.” She moved on from the debate and took another point.
“Actually that is true as well,” I replied.
“It is?” She was a little shocked but not at me as she said, “It is a little difficult to believe seeing how you two are.” “Oh?
How are we?” I asked curiously.
“Oh please.
I know the matters of a man and a woman and I can tell when a girl is looking with love and jealousy in her eyes.” She replied, referring to Alicia.
“You sound like you speak from experience,” I replied to which instead of blushing, her crystal eyes shone with sadness.
An expression from a bad experience.
“Is it that obvious?” She muttered but it was for me to hear.
She then continued, “I did.
Once.
When I was young and naïve.” “You are still young.
And maybe a bit naïve.” I said once she said her part.
“Maybe.
But then it was different.
I used to think that love was the only mutual feeling between two parties.
Turns out I was wrong.” She replied with her tale.
I wasn’t going to pry nor did I want to dig into a sad memory for her.
Although I am a man.
I have seen, met, and dealt with men far worse than one’s imagination could allow.
The phrase, ‘You give all men a bad name.’ truly fitted them.
There were women like that too but they were in very low quantity.
Most of the time, the scums were men.
“You should be thankful that you grew up through that then,” I replied, ending the topic so she doesn’t have to remember much of that.
“I had to.
When every move of mine mattered, I had to stop being naïve.” She replied.
“I must say, you sound very mature right now.
Totally doesn’t fit you.” I chuckled while saying.
“Really?” She asked with a smile that showed her pearly white teeth.
“Yep.
I would say being a naïve child might suit you more.” She laughed at my reply and then her expression turned adorable as she said in a high-pitched tone while giving a playful addition of gestures, “Would this be better?” “Hahaha.” I laughed out loud.
Her form reminded me of Kor*an actresses who seem and sound just like her when they use the cute form of ‘Aegyo’.
“I said childlike, not playful.” She laughed in return at my reply.
Our laughter and good time were interrupted by a cough which we both seemed to have missed.
“Ahem.
Am I interrupting you two?” Turning around, I saw Sophien standing there with a scrutinizing gaze, her eyes half-closed as if questioning the atmosphere.
I chose not to reply and turned to Layla.
“It was nice talking to you, Layla.
See you later.” I stood up while Layla replied, “Mhm.
It was pleasant chatting with you as well.
And, I will bother you again when I need help with these.” “Haha,” I chuckled and replied, “Sure do.” As I left the seat, Sophien blocked my path and said, “Grandfather would be visiting you this afternoon.
I hope you understand that you aren’t doing what’s best for anyone.” I simply nodded and replied, “I will be waiting for him.” I require money and I think I have already established that I am the dominant party in this case.
Well, that is until someone can somehow substitute the ingredients of the potion which I don’t think is happening for a few years.
And this much of a time is enough for the central government to suffer some minor losses so I’m sure they will also behave.
Nothing major happened after Sophien’s arrival.
Layla and Sophien chatted a bit about random topics and soon students started to come in.
Alicia and Rose’s absence was noticed by many and some even whispered about it.
It wasn’t long before Desmond followed and entered the classroom.
While taking the roll call, he asked, “Why is student Rose absent today, student Adrian?” “She overexerted herself during training over the weekend.
I made her take the day off.” I replied.
“I see but it isn’t a valid reason so her absence would be marked.” He replied about which I didn’t care much.
Like I said, how the girls or any of my allies do in the academy doesn’t matter.
If it’s power, I can give it to them even greater than the gods the people of this world oh so believe in.
The lecture continued for a while before Desmond, half an hour before the end of the lecture started saying the names of some students.
“The following students are to stand up.
Dina Vervel, Macer Tenzer, and George Fonzer.” Hearing him say their names, a girl and two boys stood up.
“Dine Vervel, from this moment onward, you are transferred to elite class section two because of your rank drop.
As for the rest of you two, you are transferred to elite class section three.” At Desmond’s abrupt orders, many were shocked.
The atmosphere was going normal and suddenly, after delivering the lecture when everyone thought that no change would occur, he dropped this sudden bomb.
The boys were disappointed but the girl wasn’t so much.
It wasn’t such a bad news anyway.
The ranking could change at any time and they weren’t being kicked out of the elite class but only to the lower sections so there was still a chance to come up.
What I was puzzled about was that in the novel, only one student went to the lower section.
There was no student coming from the second section.
The second from the third section would be Laura but who is the one from the second section?
That part was puzzling me but I chose to ignore it.
It’s not like it mattered.
The students left the room and Desmond again said, “Pay attention.
If you don’t do well, this could be anyone of you.
Your status won’t help you anymore.” He said this line especially looking at Eric and Zefton, both of the apostle candidates who were obviously favored by their optional class instructors.
“And now, welcome Derrell Miller, Laura Ravenknight, and Sarah Georgette as your new classmates.” At his announcements, two students entered the classroom.
I knew of the boy, Derrell.
I had been keeping an eye out for him.
A special case for an apostle candidate.
A case I intended to exploit.
I had no idea about the girl Sarah and although she was competent enough to climb up here, I didn’t have anything special on her so I decided not to worry about her for the moment.
“Unfortunately, Laura Ravenknight is busy with some personal matters so she won’t be attending our class for a few days.” Desmond chose not to disclose Laura’s breakthrough.
He didn’t say anything about Alicia’s as well even though it was asked multiple times before in the exams and in the class today.
No one bothered to ask me though.
“Eric Tudor, Layla Evergreen, Asmara Hayez, Zefton Grey, and Adrian von Deus Lux.
Please remain here after classes.” Desmond said and left the class without explaining anything.
===== I will try my best but there might not be another chapter today which is the chapter of today, not a bonus one.
If I can’t do it, I will upload it tomorrow along with Monday’s chapter.
