The Archangel of Death - Chapter 72
72: Training 72: Training I don’t know what gave the readers the impression that Mc is a slave to the system but even if you think so, he is not.
Sure restrictions are placed on him but they aren’t forced by the system if you think that.
I plan to cover a little bit of content in the future regarding this but given the risk of spoilers, I cannot disclose any information regarding that.
All I want you to understand is that the Mc isn’t a slave to the system.
That’s it.
Enjoy.
===== Chapter 72 “I hope your history test went well,” I said as I and the girls met Monday afternoon for training.
Since none of us had taken any optional classes, we also didn’t have any tests.
“Today’s training is very simple.
What we are going to do today is change the nature of your mana.” I told them my plans for the evening.
They looked at me strangely.
Of course, they would.
What I was saying was that bullsh*t has never been attempted before. At least not by the people of this world.
The thing is, no matter what power it is, mana, qi, or even just basic elemental power, having an attribute makes things easy.
It also means sacrificing your other fields such as a person whose chosen attribute is ice, might not be able to perform fire-attributed attacks.
But the solution to that is very simple.
One simply has to excel at what they have chosen.
So strong that nothing can beat them.
And that is what I plan to do today.
“I know what you might be thinking.
What is he talking about?
What is he saying is even possible?
Has he gone crazy?” When I said the last one, all three girls went a little awkward which proved I had hit the mark.
“But it is not impossible!” I exclaimed loudly.
“Nothing is impossible if mankind puts their minds to something!” The girls would jump at my every exclamation.
It was fun so I continued like that.
“Today, we will be making history!
We will be doing what hasn’t been done before!
We will be doing the impossible today!!!” The girls were embarrassed by my speech and didn’t know what to say so simply, starting from Rose, they started to clap awkwardly.
Conclusion.
They don’t understand the power of speech.
[They simply think you are crazy] Or, they don’t understand the power of speech.
[Uh…Right] ===== For Laura and Alicia, I have something that will be very helpful for them.
As for Rose, since my attribute isn’t lightning and I haven’t awakened an authority related to that either, so I will have to train her the old-school way like how I was taught.
Shock therapy.
As for the other girls, Laura requires darkness and I have death to compensate for that and as for Alicia, she requires divinity and light, both of which are lower branches of life so that problem is solved as well.
Of course, if it is assumed that the process would be easy and without pain unlike Rose, then the assumption is sorely wrong.
===== “What… what is this, Your Highness?” Rose warily asked as tendrils of electricity formed around the lightning array.
This array was a simple array that could be created using any power.
Since I had a sh*tload of mana crystals and slime cores, I could easily compensate for the power part.
“This, my dear Rose, is the path to power,” I said with a smile while admiring my perfect work.
Even though I couldn’t use mana, my calculation was top-notch.
As tendrils of lightning emitted from the array, Rose and I felt the slight shock deliver by them even though we were standing a little away from it.
“What… What do I have to do?” She asked me nervously.
“Simple.
Just stand in the middle of it.” I said nonchalantly like it didn’t matter at all.
“I… I see.” She couldn’t reply with a comeback.
“Well then, go ahead.” I nudged her slightly.
She stumbled at my slight push but resolved herself to move in after a little while.
She stepped into the array and immediately, she was shocked slightly but it wasn’t to the degree she couldn’t take it.
Considering her rank, she would somewhat be able to endure it.
At least she won’t be harmed permanently. “When lightning travels through you, try to move your mana with it as well.
Lightning is fast, it isn’t unpredictable.
Predict where and how it would exit from and use your mana in tandem with it.” I instructed.
My instructions were easier said than done.
Lightning is fast.
Very fast.
On par with light.
Well, not really but it is just a comparison.
So following its movements would be very difficult even for Rose.
I mean it took me two months.
I can only wonder how long it would take for her.
Still, once she gets past this, her potential will be near infinite.
===== Life and death.
Two beginnings of everything.
One cannot exist without another.
When I researched life, except for the difficulty of making it coexist with death, there wasn’t any particular difficulty for anything else.
It took time but in terms of difficulty, it wasn’t much.
However, Laura doesn’t need life.
She doesn’t even need death.
She just needs a sub-element of death, the element of darkness.
Darkness has many unique properties to itself and it can do small things that other sub-elements of death can as well.
Such as the health attack Laura dealt me before in my room can also be said to be a form of necromancy skill of deterioration.
But what darkness is most known for is its attack power.
It is slow compared to light attacks but it makes up for it with its heavy damage.
“What you need to do is decide on an appropriate price,” I informed Laura as she sat in front of me cross-legged.
“However, if we do that, then it would be very difficult to use it.
Another option is converting your mana to darkness completely but it has a drawback as well.” I continued.
“What drawback?” She asked.
“It would turn your mana to darkness so whenever you would use it, it would be clearly seen.” I pointed out the simple fact.
If the people of this world find out that she can use dark mana, then she would either be branded as a heretic or a demon spawn.
“So we don’t covert my mana into dark mana?” She asked.
“Oh no, we will,” I replied.
She was a little dumbfounded so she asked, “How?” “Simple.
We will make it so that you don’t need to display mana.” Body enhancement.
She will use darkness to make herself stronger.
It would be killing two birds with one stone.
She wouldn’t need to pay the price since her mana would be completely turned to darkness in other words she would be becoming darkness herself, and there would be no need to show her mana when all she would do with her mana is the empowerment of her physical body.
In essence, she won’t get caught and she won’t get hurt.
“Okay.” She said, sounding unsure of my intentions.
Well, she will understand soon enough.
People tend to learn and understand better through pain.
Tremendous pain.
“Very well.
Then let’s begin.” I held both of her hands and we entangled our fingers.
“Now, the most important part,” I stated and she listened closely given my serious expression and tone.
“This is going to hurt very much so focus on your mind so it doesn’t end up broken.” My instruction was simple yet for some reason, she failed to understand as she asked, “What?” I smiled and circulated the strand of death in my abdomen.
Even with the killing I had done, the strand was still single but I could tell that it would soon multiply but for now, it was still one.
For this, one was enough.
As soon as I did, the inherent darkness inside of her resonated with the superior element. Since I wasn’t focusing on mana but her inherent quality, it wasn’t much difficult.
Her darkness started to travel inside her body and I directed it towards her hands from where it would flow into me.
“AHHHHHH….” A tremendous shriek left Laura’s lips as she tried to snatch her hands from me but I held her strongly.
Her body crackled as the darkness traveled through her.
Darkness is quite erratic so it does that but it won’t kill her.
The pain from her muscles reforming.
She kept on screaming and finally, the darkness started to flow into me.
Of course, in me, it was very calm like a meek wyvern in front of a dragon.
I had death in me after all.
It didn’t take long before a circulation was complete among us.
For Laura, however, this small circulation was hell.
Figuratively.
What I was doing was smoothening the element of darkness inside of her.
Smoothening it to the point of it being smooth like mana.
Then what we would do is mix it with mana and it would be done.
It’s kind of like the dual cultivation often discussed in Chin*se manh*as.
Only this one wasn’t fun at all.
Let’s not talk about the pain part.
Be optimistic as they say.
Yay!!!
It won’t be done in a single day and it would take at least a month or given Laura’s talent, a few months.
So all she could do today was hold on and then I will have to convince her to do it again tomorrow.
There is another person I need to convince now that I have demonstrated it a little.
And she was looking at me deathly pale and horrified.
===== Gulp!
‘Gulp, indeed.
But that won’t save you.’ I thought as Alicia nervously held my hands.
What I didn’t tell her was that she didn’t need to worry because we would be turning her mana into a light attribute which is very smooth compared to darkness so the pain would be a lot, lot, lot less.
“So, are you ready?” I asked her to make her nervous further.
Being nervous was good.
Being afraid was good.
Fear keeps one on their toes.
I needed her alert.
“Ye… Yes.” Even though she wanted to refuse, she knew that the path to power wasn’t all honey and sugar.
She would be in pain a lot and there was nothing she could do about it.
But whether she believes me or not, I am saving her a world of pain by delivering her physical pain.
If Seraphina was mentally tortured by the imperial family members and their followers, then Alicia was mentally tortured by demons.
Only Alicia didn’t become strong from that.
She would only become weak which is a whole volume ahead.
But the strength that she would obtain through me would help her deal with those demons.
“Now, breathe,” I instructed and the same procedure with Laura began.
Only in Alicia’s case, I wasn’t pulling darkness from within her to me but I was instead pushing a small, very small amount of life from me into her.
It may sound wrong on so many levels but it was a completely pure process.
This was actually a gamble.
I didn’t know if I could turn her mana into the light attribute.
Unlike Laura, Alicia didn’t have any pure light and divine attributes.
Instead whenever she would use mana, her skills would convert the mana to the nature before being used.
So I had no idea if I could do it or not.
If not, then we will have to try another method which would involve doing something like Rose, which is actually a very difficult method because, unlike lightning, light is unpredictable and Alicia isn’t a genius like Rose.
[It is working] A half hour into the circulation, when I didn’t feel any change, Allison kindly informed me.
When I focused, and really focused, I did notice some slight change.
It was so small that it was almost negligent.
But it was still there and this was working.
It will just take a very long time.
“Umm… Your Highness.” Alicia called me and I turned my attention to her.
“Yes?” I asked.
“My status window is behaving strangely.” She replied.
“How so?” I asked curiously.
“It is flickering.” She replied.
Since it wasn’t an urgent matter, I ignored it and asked her to do the same.
She nodded and we continued.
Laura was still out cold and Rose was still busy.
We had time on our hands since we had nothing to do so I planned to stay here the whole night and work with the girls on their progress.
