===== Chapter 70 ‘It doesn’t matter.

No matter who it is, I will do what His Highness has asked of me.’ Rose thought inwardly as she cut the heads of the children-looking monsters.

She didn’t hesitate a lot.

At first, she did a little but she resolved herself to carry out her master’s will.

It didn’t matter whether the people being beheaded by her dagger were monsters or not.

As long as her Master had ordered her to do something, she would do it without fail.

She finally finished cutting down the last of them.

They weren’t strong.

In fact, they weren’t strong at all.

Even if Rose was the D-rank she was in the past, she could have easily dealt with them.

Not to forget that she was now a B-rank.

Just as she had finished, she heard the sound of horses neighing and moving in her direction.

“It doesn’t matter who it is.” She finally finished and prepared to deal with the rest.

===== Slash, thaa!!!

Her whip crackled as she wrapped it around the head of a child and pulled it heavily.

The heat splattered into hundreds of pieces.

Laura didn’t care for the blood that fell on her face and clothes but again swung her whip to lash a few others closing in.

A child with a rock charged at her but she manipulated the head of her whip that moved like a serpent in water and wrapped itself around the arm of that child.

A strong swing and the child’s arm separated from its body.

She finished killing all of them very soon.

There was no hesitation in her moves.

If she did hesitate, it was because she didn’t want blood on her clothes but once she shed the first blood, she stopped hesitating.

‘It feels good.’ She thought inwardly.

It felt good for her.

Killing and hearing the screams of the children who were being killed by her whip.

‘Should I try something new?’ She contemplated but then discarded the idea.

She had already taken too long.

She couldn’t afford to waste any more time lest she would have to deal with two enemies rather than one.

===== Punch!

A piercing punch landed on the body of a child and a hole formed in its chest.

Alicia closed her eyes at the cruel scene.

But nevertheless, she swung her fist again and this time blew the head off of another.

She didn’t want to do this.

She hated how the academy was putting her through this.

But what she hated most was how weak she was.

Even though she had been repeatedly warned about the nature of these children-skinned monsters, she almost fell into their trap.

She had heard their conversation because she kept her ears open.

They really were planning to do what the book depicted their race used to do.

Even though she knew, she still allowed them the benefit of the doubt.

‘Maybe Adrian is wrong.’ She reasoned.

‘Maybe the book is wrong.’ For the first time in her life, she thought that.

But in the end, they were both right.

It was she who was being naïve.

She decided not to be and focus on finishing the job.

Just in time as well because as soon as she finished the last one, from the corner of her eye, she saw a group of people on horses appearing in her view.

She prepared herself to deal with them.

Whether they were enemies or not, she needed to deal with them anyway.

===== “Huff… Huff…” A black-haired boy stood panting heavily in the middle of a desolate ruin-like village.

Around him were corpses of children that invoked horrifying memories of long ago buried deep in his mind.

But that didn’t make it easy to swallow seeing their child-like appearances.

“They’re monsters.

They’re monsters.” He chanted in his head again and again.

That was the only way for him to justify in his mind.

He couldn’t get the image of their innocent faces out of his mind even though they were the worst of the worst monsters.

“Neigh…” While breathing heavily, he heard the sound of horses galloping.

He turned his head to see a group of people adorned in golden armor.

About thirty of them.

None of them were on foot and all of them were on horses.

The man in the lead was fully covered in armor while there was a Warhammer in his hand as his weapon of choice.

The knights of the holy empire, Arcadia.

An empire of the past.

The empire purged out heretics and evil races.

The empire wiped out not only this race but also the wretched orcs and many more races with whom peace could not coexist.

Eric, the black-haired boy was confused.

He had heard and seen the knights of the empire in another artifact in his past life but he hadn’t seen them in this test.

‘Has something changed?’ He thought inwardly.

He then remembered the boy whose golden hair had turned white, and how he was different from his past life.

He didn’t buy it and still hated him to the core but he couldn’t help but wonder, ‘Why are so many things different from my past life?’ The matter at hand was confusing, however, he had no knowledge of them appearing in this artifact.

Granted he didn’t make it this far in his past life as he had accidently found out the plans of these children look like monsters but he was killed before he could do anything about it.

“Who are you?” A heavy voice entered his ears.

Eric was cautious but contemplated his words carefully.

“I am just a wanderer.

I was passing by when I encountered these children.” Eric was interrupted at this point, “They are not children.” The man spoke in a heavy voice that pressured Eric like a heavy rock being pushed on him.

But it was strange.

He could clearly feel that the man in question wasn’t that strong.

“Yes.

But I didn’t know that.

I, however, coincidentally heard them planning something and when I tried to run away, they struggled so I fought them to death.” Eric gave a plausible explanation for the scene before him.

But, “Are you sure?” The man in front of him spoke.

He got off his horse and before Eric could even ask what he meant, his world had turned upside down.

Eric was killed.

===== The test wasn’t over yet.

If it was, I would have already been transported out of this place.

There was one more event that needed to be cleared.

Puerian.

Latin for Puer which means child.

The race of these children-looking people.

Monster would be the correct word.

There used to be many races that were enemies of the entire world not only of humanity.

There was a time when all of the races banded together and began to purge these troublesome races.

Like orcs, this was also a very troublesome race that was collectively wiped out from the face of the earth.

The race that contributed most to their demise was none other than humans and among those humans, the holy empire of Arcadia had the most contribution than anyone else.

And here they come.

The second part of the test.

The only reason I am aware of them is because Eric faces them twice in the novel.

Both times in an artifact.

In his first encounter, which would be happening in this artifact, he had his head cut off.

Maybe it was his amateurish explanation.

It was only my deduction that the other party must have a way to discern the truth.

If that was the case, there was no reason to trust Eric who was lying on their face.

“I see you mangled them properly.” The first thing the man with the Warhammer did was praise me.

“I take pride in my ways,” I replied honestly, feeling quite good about the compliment.

[…] “You would not mind if I ask who you are and what you are doing here?” It sounded like he was asking but it was more of an order.

[MP recovery potion: Cost 10000] But there was no need to cooperate.

If Eric was killed because he gave an explanation, there was no telling that no explanation was needed in the first place.

No matter what the answer is, a soldier who has a simple order to purge only does one thing.

Purge.

No matter who it is, no matter what it is, as long as it was in the way, it needed to be purged.

Whether it was important or not, didn’t matter.

All that mattered was the carrying out of the order.

Purge.

“And?” I asked.

“And?” he asked in return.

“And what if I do?” I explained.

“Then I would have no choice but to force you.” He explained.

With how quick his answer was, he was hoping that things would go just like this.

“Fu*king religious fanatics,” I mumbled under my breath.

I hated this kind to some extent as well.

They won’t ask any questions.

As long as they themselves judge someone to be a sinner, they would deliver punishment.

And the funny part was that they were forgiven under the guise that they were the soldiers of the gods.

That is how the Vatican was of the old German empire.

The massacres and murders carried out by them were in millions and people welcomed such things as they believed them to be the readers of the bible since the people themselves couldn’t read it.

That was the same for this man.

He has already decided to kill me.

There is no need to overly complicate this matter.

Whether he lives, or I will.

That is all that matters.

“Still… I’m glad I asked the girls not to say anything and just kill them.” I had no doubt that they would be able to kill these people.

Why?

Unlike Eric, the girls are already on guard.

I just hope they don’t act naïve and just kill them.

“What are you whispering about?” He asked as he raised his Warhammer and swung it in an intimidating way.

A gush of wind passed me and I moved to the left.

A cut formed on the ground.

So that’s what it was.

Air blades.

His weapon must be an attributed one.

Well, who cares?

[Bless] [Magic bullet] I used ‘bless’ on myself and then created five hundred ‘magic bullets’ from the start.

I’m going to call this guy Hammy.

So before Hammy could react, I shot them all at him and started to run.

He was too focused on defending himself that he failed to notice me move past him and arrive before his companions.

[Magic bullet] [Decay] Without mercy, I shot hundreds of bullets at them and then used ‘decay’ to kill them one by one.

They were too slow for my speed to match and I was also using bullets to distract them greatly.

Once they were all dead, another gust of wind came from behind me.

[Divine shield] The shield appeared around me and stopped Hammy’s attacks.

I again showcased my speed and before he could prepare again, I was already behind him.

[MP recovery potion] I used another potion to recharge my MP.

[Dive shield] His hammer struck my shield which shook a bit but withstood Hammy’s attack.

[Magic bullet] I shot almost two hundred magic bullets at Hammy and gravely injured him.

[Heal] Why heal?

Well, that is because I won’t gain any EXP for killing inside of an artifact.

But I do use skills here, don’t I?

Well, I found a perfect target to increase a few skill levels.

It’s a good thing he was just a figment of imagination.

That would make me feel a lot less bad.

[Bad?] [Would you feel that way if he was real?] ‘Hell naw.

I would have preferred it if he was alive.’ I would have at least gained some EXP that way.

Well, beggars can’t be choosers.

Let’s begin with something less painful for now.

[Magic bullet] I used the skill with lower damage but a larger quantity.

The fun had just begun.

There was no need to use ‘decay’ and end things early.

We had a whole day to ourselves after all.
