The Archangel of Death - Chapter 64
64: Slime dungeon: Alone 64: Slime dungeon: Alone Chapter 64 Screech.
Another barely audible sound entered his ears.
It was so low that someone normal might have been unable to detect it.
He could only pick up hints of the sound because he was a blessed.
Jonathan wasn’t a high-rank blessed, at most an E+, the peak of human limits.
He turned around as this sound had been prickling in his ears for quite some time now.
“Maybe I should go now, or else I will be late.” Still, he dismissed it when he found nothing and got back to what he was doing.
It was then that he realized something was wrong.
He couldn’t move his legs.
He struggled but he couldn’t move them and when he tried to touch them, he found he couldn’t move his arms either.
Instead of his neck, he couldn’t move anything.
Screech.
Another sound entered his ears and he felt as if his neck was also beginning to stiffen.
He moved it constantly in panic but slowly and surely, there was no moving soon.
Even his eyelids couldn’t close, his vision wasn’t impaired though. Another perceptive organ, his ears were fully functioning.
He could see, hear, and think but other than that, he couldn’t even feel anything on his skin.
“Ultrasound waves.
Usually harmless, but target the right nerves behind the retina, and a phenomenon called REM can be caused in a person.” He heard a serene voice, belonging to someone he found somewhat familiar. He could move his eyes but the voice was coming from behind him so Jonathan couldn’t confirm who it was with his eyes.
“In simpler words, it’s a form of paralysis.” Jonathan didn’t understand what the person said before, but he understood this part loud and clear.
He panicked.
Why wouldn’t he?
It awfully sounded like an assassination.
He panicked so much that he didn’t even stop to wonder a simple question, ‘Why would someone target him?’ But he was too busy trying to move his lips to beg for mercy to think that far.
“At first I came here to kill you,” the voice came again after a few moments.
Jonathan picked up the underlying meaning so he felt relieved somewhat.
And he was even more relieved when he heard the next words, “But I decided to let you live after seeing how everything is.” Jonathan thanked his lucky stars.
Not for long though as a book was slammed on the desk before him.
His ledger.
Everything he keeps a record of.
“I was wondering why would someone keep something that can be very hard evidence.
Turns out it was because of this.
A D-rank spell.” The more Jonathan heard the individual speak, the more he broke into a cold sweat.
He had someone cast a spell on the book.
The book would burn no matter where he was in case of an investigation but there had been no need for many years.
“Don’t worry.
You won’t be able to move but it isn’t harmful.
At most, it will last until the morning.
But that is the least of your worries.” He heard the individual speak and after some time, there was nothing but silence. He tried to move his lips to speak the keyword for the spell on the book but he couldn’t move his lips.
All he could do was just sit there and wait.
Wait to find out what would be the fate of him.
===== Some cores, some weapons, a few one-time spells, and a lot of gold.
This guy had amassed quite a lot of wealth all these years.
Too bad he was going to give all of this to debt collectors.
Well, now this money will be put to better use.
An odd thirty thousand gold and something.
I didn’t bother to give it a detailed count and just threw everything in the inventory.
There wasn’t much time.
The next course of action was simple.
I would inform the authorities and they would come to check the tip.
And once they would find the ledger and a paralyzed old man, then an investigation would ensue.
However, there was one tiny bit of a problem there.
After an investigation, the quickest course of action would be to clear the third floor of the dungeon to prevent a dungeon break.
But wouldn’t it be a waste?
Since I have already taken the payment, I would gladly trim the number of slimes in this dungeon with great determination. How nice of me.
‘Are the girls asleep?’ I asked Allison. Killing the slimes would earn me a ton of Exp and I think I would easily level up quite a bit.
Since the girls are close enough, they would also benefit from it except for Alicia, so it wouldn’t be much of a no-brainer how they increase in power so easily.
Since Laura had already made a lot of fuss about it, she would definitely do it again once she found out where I was when she was asleep.
But at least by then I would have returned.
If her level increases while she is awakened, she might even run all the way over here since she would easily figure out where I am.
[They are] Allison’s reply scrubbed my worries by quite a bit.
I will face what comes in the morning in the morning.
Right now, let’s level up.
===== [EXP 19,700,00027,000,000] I went up the two lower levels.
There weren’t many slimes but my Exp went up quite a bit.
If there were only a little more, I could have leveled up before I went up to the last floor.
As soon as I entered the final floor, what appeared before me was a single slime.
I sighed in relief as I thought another swarm would be waiting for me.
[Magic Bullet] However, imagine my surprise when for the first time, a single magic bullet didn’t kill a slime.
It didn’t even enter deep enough to get closer to the core of it.
My magic bullet was high-leveled and my INT was also in the B ranks but it still didn’t penetrate deep enough to kill the slime.
This time, I lined up five magic bullets and shot them at it.
The first one penetrated about the same depth, the second one disappeared shortly after, the third one got closer to the core, the fourth one struck it but didn’t manage to kill it but the fifth one was there to finish up the job.
[You have slain a slime] [You have gained 1000000 EXP] [You have gained 10000 coins] [You have gained a slime core] An insane amount of Exp filled up my Exp bar.
The coins were the same though. [EXP 20,700,00027,000,000] ‘Can’t you just reduce the amount of Exp gain and in doing so the total Exp count?
It’s hard to keep up with it.’ I asked Allison.
Although my math and thinking speed was good enough to calculate it, wasn’t it too much to just do this?
[I will change it at 200 level] At least she didn’t refuse.
Although wasn’t in full control of the system, she was in major control and she could exercise many rights regarding my growth.
Still, in no way is Allison against me.
Instead, she is the proper controller a person on the path to getting stronger could wish for.
Done with this, I moved forward cautiously.
I was very careful since I couldn’t afford another swarm to overwhelm me like before.
These slimes are significantly harder to kill than those on the lower floor.
Just in case, I kept several health and MP recovery potions ready in inventory for direct use.
Pity there was no potion for regeneration of health so I would have to rely on natural skill.
While I was in the same spot, sorting out my thoughts, I saw a bunch of slimes slowly sliding on the floor toward me.
Without further ado, I prepared five magic bullets for each of them and shot at them.
Luckily, all of them died and I inched closer to another level up.
[EXP 25,700,00027,000,000] ‘Just two more.’ I thought as I took a step forward.
Just one step was taken by me when I saw more slimes appear in my view.
This time there were at least thirty of them.
I prepared magic bullets for all of them and shot at them without much hesitation.
Some died while some didn’t.
I had to do it again to kill them all.
[You have slain a slime x32] [You have gained 32000000 EXP] [You have gained 320000 coins] [You have gained a slime core x32] [Level up] [Level up] [EXP 2,700,00029,000,000] If, and I really hope, there are the same number of slimes on this floor as that on the lower floor, then it would be a blessing for me.
Just as I finished checking, another group of slimes showed up.
Only this time, I was a little scared.
They were at least in the hundreds, definitely more than a hundred.
One thing was for sure, I wasn’t getting out unscathed from this one.
I shot all the rest of the bullets in my arsenal which amounted to about six hundred.
I also started to run backward while I consumed an MP recovery potion.
My MP fully recovered and I prepared to shoot more as no message of an EXP gain had shown up yet.
Just as I turned around to shoot more at them, my senses tingled and just in time, I moved to the side as a slime passed me by an inch like a bullet.
Okay, new information gathered.
Slimes at this level can propel themselves toward their target.
And I wasn’t lucky enough to survive the next one.
Another new piece of information was gained as I used my hand to rip out the core of this one, these slimes can condense their acid so there is no need to expose it to flesh for a long time, it acts instantly as it comes in contact as proven by this horrifying notification.
[HP -728] More than half of my HP was taken by a slime and there were at least more than thirty still jumping at me.
Without taking any risk, I devoured an HP potion and ran to the side. From the corner of my eye, I spotted even more slimes showing up on the battlefield.
Give me a break.
I would have to take care of these as soon as possible unless the same situation as the bat dungeon would occur and the additional problem this time was the high damage delivered by these slimes.
The only blessing was that I wasn’t lacking in coins so the situation was solvable as long as enough time for HP and MP recovery was allowed.
====== “Huff… Huff…” I huffed greatly as I stood in front of the boss’s room.
I wasn’t thinking how hard this face-off was but how weak I was that even slimes were killing me.
How low have I fallen?
I used to destroy fragments with a wave of my hand and now I am struggling to survive against mere slimes.
[It’s a process] That’s right.
It is a process.
But that doesn’t make it much better to digest.
I almost died fighting slimes so many times that I never reached this stage even when fighting my dad.
[Still, the reward was good enough] Of course, it was.
Although I was a little depressed, I always was and always will be a firm believer in hard work.
The more you struggle, the greater the reward.
This ideology has always been true in my life and all of my lives inside of fragments.
As expected, there were more than three thousand slimes on this floor as well.
Difficult to defeat and I ended up using a load of potions ranging from HP, MP recovery, and stamina potions.
I even used strength, defense, and agility potions a lot.
Also, I used any skill that I could use to my advantage.
Shadowverse, decay, heal, and bless were also used in tandem along with Magic bullet and Regeneration.
All in all, the expenditure on this floor alone was massive.
[Coins -1091500] Just coin use was in a million and the potions I brewed from elven scriptures were almost all used.
Even though they all lasted for an hour, I had been here for almost nine hours.
By now, even the girls would have woken up so I was in quite a hurry to finish this before things got worse for me even more.
===== Here is the yesterday’s chapter.
