62: Slime dungeon (1) 62: Slime dungeon (1) I used ‘swarm’ instead of ‘horde’ as it sounded more suited for slimes.

===== Chapter 62 A swarm.

A term used to define a collection of ants.

Of course, it could be used for other things as well but it fits best for ants.

However, in this situation, what I see before me, I can’t say ‘A lot of slimes’ because they aren’t only a lot, they are a lot, lot, and lot.

So the best word to use would be swarm.

The shield was entirely covered by slimes.

Oh yes.

Not surrounded but covered.

There were so many of them that they not only surrounded the whole shield, they were even covering all of it, not letting a speck of light in.

I could only see them after my eyes adjusted to the dark a little.

At first, it only appeared as if the room was dark but I realized soon that it wasn’t that the room was dark, there were just slimes blocking the incoming light.  I can’t even count them, that’s how many they are.

“Ad… Adrian…” Laura softly called me.

Her voice was outright trembling and I for sure knew she was scared.

“If I get slimes stuck to me, I will kill you.” Almost scared considering she can still make threats just fine.

“Don’t worry, they can’t get in,” I replied to appease her.

Rose was preparing her dagger while Alicia had already put on her gloves.

Unlike Laura, they could somewhat understand the threat.

Usually, slimes aren’t dangerous unless their acidic mucus is exposed to human flesh for a long time.

However, if they number this much, it wouldn’t be long before the acidic effects of the acid would melt our skin.

“Stand down,” I ordered both of them.

It was a proper order so they knew I wasn’t joking around.

Why would I joke?

This was a very serious thing for me.

Pleasant, sure, but serious.

Why?

Well, that’s because of this.

[Total number of slimes, 3091] At least fifteen level-ups were staring me right in the face.

Of course, it wouldn’t be easy considering I would have to use at least three MP potions if my aim was to hit right in the mark.

As for the damage, I had no doubt it would be crazily high despite the suit protecting me but I was putting my bet on ‘regeneration’ to heal me constantly.

Still, it wouldn’t be easier even then.

“Stay in here” I instructed the girls and prepared myself.

“Fuu…” I exhaled deeply and without further ado, jumped in one corner of the shield.

There was no point where the number of slimes was fewer than the rest so there was no need to overthink this.  I passed through the shield and fell into a squishy mass of blob that felt squishy at first but soon, pain exchanged that feeling.

[HP -180] [HP -130] [HP- 142] [HP -133] My HP went down all that by each second and my skin felt like it was burning.

[Heal] I applied heal but it wasn’t much different so all I could do was break through this blob so I could see properly to attack.

Gritting my teeth and pushing myself through the pain, I finally broke through the thick layer of slimes and ran towards a corner.

[HP 1271170] My eyes almost popped out of their sockets as I hurriedly applied ‘heal’ several times.

I was lucky that none of my skills had a cool down time otherwise I would have been screwed by slimes even at that.

My burnt and fallen-off skin recovered and to my horror, my hair didn’t.

Even my clothes were nowhere to be found.

But I didn’t have much time to worry about that.

[Magic bullet] Immediately, I emptied my tank of MP which was only 661 left.

All the rest of my MP went into healing myself and regeneration.

I can’t wait when regeneration would become passive.

[You have slain a slime x497] As expected, some of my bullets were ineffective against such a mass.

Still, I was successful in curbing down the swarm quite a bit.

[MP potion: Cost 10000] My MP regenerated but the sea of slimes used that small window to jump at me again.

I ran backward but was still wounded by some slimes again.

[HP -457] I used ‘heal’ again and the rest of my wounds regenerated slowly.

I conjured up a thousand bullets this time leaving only some for regeneration because there was no need to use the MP for anything else.

[You have slain a slime x613] Once again, the number went down by quite a bit.

One-third of the slimes were taken care of.

Still, the sea was quite overwhelming as the slimes flowed towards me like a wave.

[MP potion: Cost 10000] [Magic bullet] I again cast a thousand bullets leaving some MP for my regeneration which was still slowly going on.

This was a perfect opportunity to try and level up that skill.

[You have slain a slime x971] Finally, only about a hundred slimes were left.

I didn’t bother using another potion and simply used my sword to get rid of them.

It was difficult with a sword but not much since my physical stats were good enough to handle lower levels of my sword techniques and that was enough for these weaklings.

Besides, the small amount of damage taken would help my regeneration to level up.

About an hour later, I was done killing all the slimes and my MP had recovered quite a bit on its own.

[Magic bullet (high) LV: 6 (44576000)] [Regeneration(intermediate) LV: 5(1195000)] Regeneration had increased quite a bit and I was a liiiittle bit considering pulling the same stunt on the upper floor but I gave up the thought.

I almost died while pushing through the slimes.

Although I didn’t know what really would have happened but if I had died, then that would have been a pretty pathetic way of dying.

It wasn’t such an amazing gain but considering on the upper floor my level would increase by much more, I didn’t sweat it.

But there was one thing that was bothering me.

Why was the number of slimes so high on this floor?

On the lower floor at most there were only about three hundred slimes so why were there so many of them here?

I wasn’t upset in any way but just curious.

What could have been the reason for such a drastic increase?

My status was looking okay for now.

Even if there were the same number of slimes up there, my level-up requirement was too drastic but considering a pattern was going on from the lower floor, if all the monsters on the upper floor are C+, then it would be amazing for me.

I manipulated the life strand in my abdomen and nourished my entire body.

I felt rejuvenated but my main focus was my head and my eyebrows.

All my hair melted was away by the slimes.

I was lucky to have a life strand as it can cure and grow anything.

Of course, that doesn’t mean that I would recklessly use it.

It takes quite a long time for this little strand to charge.

My hair grew at good speed but I figured I would have to trim them later.

[Hartmann’s suit] I equipped a suit from the inventory and my naked body was covered.

I didn’t want to give the girls a heart attack so I covered myself up before I turned around the corner and entered the clearing where the shield was set up.

Heeding my instructions, none of the girls left the shield and were patiently waiting for me.

“Your Highness!” Rose exclaimed alerting the other two girls to my presence too.

“Are you okay?” Alicia worriedly asked while Laura straight up came to me and started touching me in places to check if I was okay.

Once she was done, I was slapped across my face which I allowed.

Then she grabbed my collar which undid my bowtie and said in a very threatening tone, “Do that again, and I will kill you.” It was sweet how she was showing care in her own way.

It was so sweet that I was far from threatened.

Instead, a smile crept up on my face.

Seeing the smile, her expression got even more ugly and she started shaking me by my collar while yelling, “Is that something to smile about!?” “I’m sorry.

I’m sorry.” I repeatedly replied while keeping the smile still on my face.

In the background, Alicia had a cold expression on her face and Rose had an envying one.

Each of them was worried in their own way and that made my smile even wider which in turn, made my shaking even more severe.

===== Once everyone calmed down, I got to the main point.

[Your party member Rose is now Level 205] [Your party member Laura is now Level 124] [Your party member Alicia is now Level 149] Rose’s level had barely increased but considering how high-ranked she was; it was still amazing that she was leveling up.

As for Alicia, she had leveled up to the breakthrough mark so I guess we should hurriedly finish up here and head back to let her finish her breakthrough before the test.

The most significant increase was experienced by Laura.

“Did you feel changes inside of you?” I asked once all three of them calmed down and were attentive.

Rose and Laura were already familiar with this so my question was pointed at Alicia, who from the looks of it, had already received an explanation.

“Yes.

I feel like I grew stronger.” She replied to which I nodded and asked, “And have they explained?” She glanced at both girls and then nodded in assent.

I still chose to explain in clearer words.

“My blessing allows me to bond with other people and increase their strength along with my own growth.

It doesn’t work if the bonded people are too far away but whenever you are close to me, you will also experience growth along with me.

However, it doesn’t work when it is thwarted by a breakthrough so I suggest you focus on that as soon as we return.” Alicia listened to my explanation a.k.a bullsh*t with great attention and since my story sounded good enough, she was very much convinced.

Anyway, now that I was done with all of this, what I needed to do was simply go to the third floor and finish things up there.

‘But….’ “No!” Laura wasn’t allowing me to.

If it was just stubbornness, then I could have dealt with it but she was too scared for me to protest.

Not for herself of course but for me.

Even though I won, the fact still remained that I almost died in this incident.

There was no telling if the number of slimes would be the same up there or not.

If it is the same, then there were chances that either I or the girls would get hurt.

And it wasn’t just Laura either, Rose was also not allowing me, and Alicia’s expression had been cold since earlier.

At first, I thought it was because of Laura but when I suggested going up the floor, I realized it was because of me.

In such an endearing and equally scary atmosphere, even a being like me had no choice but to give up and give in to their demands.  “Fine,” I said with a sigh and we started to wrap up to leave.

It was a shame giving up the Exp gain but it wasn’t worth making them angry.
