The Archangel of Death - Chapter 52
52: Mercenary guild 52: Mercenary guild Chapter 52 The host came back on the stage after a few moments.
Everyone in the auction house waited patiently for what news he had brought.
“My deepest apologies, ladies and gentlemen,” He began with an apology and continued, “But after not seeing the desired response for this product, the seller has decided to not sell the second piece.” The triumphant smiles of many people in the VIP rooms froze at the same time.
This wasn’t what they were expecting.
What they expected was to simply lower the price.
The item was bound to show up again if it showed up today.
They simply had to wait for a while or search their own dungeons for such magical items but even if they couldn’t procure it themselves, they didn’t want the prices of it to reach great heights so they decided to use this little strategy to lower the price.
What they didn’t expect was this little surprise.
They hadn’t considered this because it went against the rule.
“That cannot be done.
The rules of the auction clearly state that once an item has been put up for auction, it cannot be taken off.” A man spoke from one of the VIP rooms.
There were some agreements with him and once they stopped, the host answered, “Yes it is as you say, Sir.
But the problem is, that the seller never placed the second piece in our care.
He was waiting to see the response of his item first before he allowed us to have the second one so technically, we didn’t have the product in the first place.” Technicality.
All the nobles and royals who were involved knew that it was horsesh*t but they couldn’t speak against it since they had used their own strategy under the guise of the same technicality.
They had no other choice but to submit so a woman’s voice came from one of the booths, “Tell your seller that he can put it up once more.
We will try our best to satisfy him in terms of price in accordance with his product.” Although the wording was like they were doing a favor to the seller, what they really meant was, ‘We’re sorry.
We won’t do it again so please come back.’ ====== “It worked!” Talisa exclaimed when she heard the female noble.
“It worked exactly as you said.” She praised me genuinely.
But she was mistaken if she thought that that was it.
Only one has been separated from the group.
I want to break apart that little alliance completely.
“Go to the stage yourself and say this….” I left Talisa with some instructions.
Although she was confused and suggested doing otherwise but when I assured her that I would get rid of that alliance for her, she promptly agreed and left.
======= A few moments later after the host left, some guests waited nervously but patiently for a while.
Those who knew that they couldn’t obtain it started to lose some patience but remained quiet since the big parties were remaining quiet.
After a few minutes, Talisa Monroe, one of the housemasters of this auction house and the most desired woman by almost everyone who comes to visit the auction house, stepped on the stage.
The audience was curious as to what made her personally come to the stage so they waited for her to speak.
She, seeing that everyone was attentive, began to speak.
“Extinguished guests.
I deeply apologize for this unwanted deviation of plans.” She paused and then again spoke, with slight nervousness on her face, “I will have to apologize again that the owner of the item that was just sold, has refused to sell more of it to us but I personally assure you that I will try my hardest to get him here by tomorrow’s auction.” She again paused to assess the reaction but there was none.
They were still waiting for her to finish so she said, “Please, visit tomorrow for the item you just saw and I will try my hardest to procure it for you.” She bowed slightly at the end but the general audience didn’t know how to react since the bigger parties were still silent.
“Understood.” Finally, after some time, a male voice came from one of the booths.
“Since Lady Talisa is giving her personal assurance, we have no choice but to trust you and come back tomorrow.” Talisa again slightly bowed to that.
Another voice shortly came, “Of course, please tell the owner of the item that he won’t be dissatisfied with our offers tomorrow.” Talisa again bowed slightly but subtly smirked.
The boy was a genius, was all she could think.
Although these nobles and royals were acting calmly, they were also plotting to get that item tomorrow no matter what.
Whoever gets it, will become an outcast in this alliance and the one who already has it at a lower price, the rest would demand cooperation from him and of course, he wouldn’t which would further weaken this group.
And what’s left of it would try their darn hardest to up one against the rest so even though they would be together from the outside, from the inside, they would be keeping their eyes on each other.
She still maintained her apologetic act and left the stage after apologizing one more time.
===== 242,250 gold in one night for a simple potion with such a low effect that I feel like I ripped those people off.
I wouldn’t even call the effect mediocre since in the shop, the strength potion of the highest rank increases physical strength for about a day just for 5000 coins in the shop.
Considering it took about 1000 coins from the shop and three minutes to make one potion on average, for five thousand coins, I would only get five hours.
It wasn’t a profitable trade.
So when I made a haul for such a potion, even though the ones who bought these are di*kheads, I still can’t help but feel like I have taken advantage of them.
[Then are you going to return it?] ‘Return what?’ I asked Allison, very confused as to what she was talking about.
Anyway, it is almost midnight and the academy is quite far away and wasting money on teleportation doesn’t seem like a good choice considering I have to return tomorrow as well so I decided to head to the mountain behind the district.
I wanted to train my skills for a bit since my magic bullet was about to level up and some other skills could be leveled up as well if I spent some time on them.
===== [Congratulations] [Skill ‘Magic Bullet’ has evolved to the next stage] [Skill ‘Regeneration’ has evolved to the next stage] Heal LV: 9 (25449000) Divine Shield LV: 8 (2513000) Magic bullet (high) LV: 2 (1172000) Bless LV: 8 (2073000) Decay LV: 9(991210000) Shadow verse LV: 2(181200) Regeneration(intermediate) LV: 1(6721000) Monarch of Frost LV: Max Almost immediately, the magic bullet leveled up, and since I was shooting them at myself, regeneration picked up speed as well.
Of course, all the other skills weren’t so fast to increase.
As for decay, well, the desolated and dead mountain trees were a good target practice for this.
Still, I wasn’t able to level it up until noon.
The attack power and size of the magic bullet increased slightly.
It was now of the same size as that of a small golf ball.
The evolution, however, brought no additional effect this time like it had brought manual control last time.
As for regeneration, the HP recovery was faster now.
There was no additional change so I didn’t delve much into it.
I wore my clothes which I had taken off last night since I didn’t want them to be turned into rags during my training.
I left the mountain and found an inn, well I say inn, it was more like a place where other things happen but as long as it had a bathroom, it was fine with me.
Once done, I left the inn and traveled to the place where I needed to do one more thing before I went back to the academy.
The mercenary guild.
Oh yeah, like every novel, anime, and manhwas, there are guilds in this one too.
Different guilds for different purposes like adventuring, information, and odd jobs such as guarding, killing, and many more.
This one is like a combination of all.
Mercenaries carry out several tasks but what makes them reliable is that they are easy to sway.
Of course, that also makes them easy to snitch so some insurance is necessary.
[Simple cloak Rank: Trash Cost: 10 coins Effect: Covers your whole body.
Has no other purpose.] [Clowns mask Rank: trash Cost: 10 coins Effect: Covers your face.
Has no other purpose] [Medallion of perception Rank: D Cost: 20000 coins Effect: Makes you impervious to the perception of ordinary individuals.
Doesn’t guarantee proper concealment] These items are enough to remain anonymous.
Besides, if I am overly dressed, or to be more precise, expensively, the other person will be on more guard than usual.
“Welcome, sir.
What are you looking for?” A receptionist asked with a smile when I approached her.
The fact that my outfit didn’t bother her meant that this wasn’t a rare sight.
“I’m looking for someone specializing in information.” Now if I needed information, I would have gone to an information guild but the information guilds don’t spread information because of confidentiality.
So that leads me to this place.
She was also aware of this so she simply told me to wait while she left the counter for a few minutes. She returned shortly with a five-foot-high bald man.
From the looks of it, he has anger management issues for sure.
“This is Baldwin.
He will be catering to your needs, Sir.” The receptionist introduced the short man to me with a smile.
I nodded and handed her five hundred gold coins.
She happily took them and returned to her post while Baldwin said, “Let us change places for our chat.” We moved to a room that was empty which meant that our chat would be private.
“Alright, what do you need?” Baldwin didn’t bother with formalities or honorifics and went straight to the point.
“I need some information spread,” I replied.
Information spread was a fancy description.
What I was asking him was to spread rumors.
Of course, it wouldn’t make sense coming here to spread rumors but it would be a different story if I needed to spread untraceable rumors.
Rumors, that have no backbone and no one can tell where they started from.
Not even the information guild.
“A simple task but whether or not it is expensive depends on the scale of the information,” Baldwin replied and specified.
I simply pulled out the mana recovery potion from my inventory which surprised him slightly but he kept it to himself.
“Last night, the Wild Turtles got their hands on something like this.
But I think it wouldn’t be fair for the other gangs if they kept something like this to themselves.” I explained.
He listened attentively and then replied, “You’re right.
It wouldn’t be fair.
But of course, that also depends on the advantage they possess.” In roundabout ways, he was asking about the worth of this item.
“Do you have skills?” A demonstration was better than an explanation.
“Yes.” He simply replied, not going into details either.
“Then use them until your mana is completely depleted,” I instructed next while placing a thousand gold coins on the table directly from the inventory.
He didn’t question when he saw the money and simply closed his eyes.
Simple detection skills it seems.
Not mana taxing but his mana wasn’t that great in the first place.
It took a few minutes before he started to perspire and then it got to the point where he was breathing raggedly.
“That’s enough.” I didn’t want him to collapse from mana depletion so I stopped him at a certain point and then pointed at the potion.
“Drink it.” He looked at me skeptically since there was a danger of poison.
But seeing that I wasn’t changing my stance and after considering all of the scenarios, he decided to go with my instructions.
