409: Do Not Read 409: Do Not Read Chapter 356 “A big as* house, nice cuisines, entertainment, and something for you lechers as well.” Ximen Shu said as she glanced at the scantily dressed women serving them several delicacies while they all rested in a big apartment.

After sleeping in that heavy armored car with some women in each other’s laps, having their own beds and rooms, as well as proper rest along with good food, many in the team were satisfied.

“I can’t help but think there’s something behind that.” A soldier said.

He seemed to be the second in charge after the general.

His name was Jang Shaomen and his personality was cold and calculative.

He wasn’t impulsive like many cultivators and often looked at things with an open and cool mind.

He, the general, Ximen Shu, and Wei Jun were on the balcony from where they could gaze down at the city, along with the citadel that stood between the city surrounded by skyscrapers but still visible to almost all of the city.

“Their intentions couldn’t be more obvious.” The general said before he asked Wei Jun, “What do you intend to do if they found out about our identities?” “They’re digging into us?” Ximen Shu asked, not privy to the ongoing scheme.

The general nodded and said, “They’re treating us amicably, trying to win our trust while also digging into our identities behind our backs.

They probably don’t trust us and are trying to figure out what our motives are.” “And what do we do if they manage to find out?” Jang Shaomen asked.

Wei Jun remained silent to that question, looking down at the city, at the citadel that stood like the base, the very foundation of the city.

Like if it were to fall, the entire city would fall.

Everything would fall into chaos.

Chaos.

He was very tempted to do so but he held himself back.

Momentarily blinking, he said, “They’re desperate.

They will look into us but I made sure to buy us three days.

At the very least.

Granted I didn’t know much about this city but the dark circles remain the same.

People who sit at the top aren’t well acquainted with the darkness at the bottom.

They will be kept busy for long enough for us to get impatient.” “Impatient?” Jang Shaomen asked.

“Time is money.

We have assumed the identities of mercenaries.

Especially mercenaries who desire money.

We can keep that persona up.” Wei Jun replied.

The general nodded before he asked, “And what about actual friendship with them?” “Friendship?” Wei Jun asked.

Yes, he asked.

From the beginning, he never had a single intention of befriending them.

In the end, he was an outsider, a conqueror.

What would he do by befriending them?

The fact stood straight for the people Alanèl.

“What friendship?” Just as it stood for the people he was sitting with.

~~ “We cannot hold them any longer,” Ahmad said as he and Samson sat together in a luxurious room slowly sipping tea while they discussed different matters.

It was imperative to discuss sensitive matters with the entire council but Ahmad knew he would simply be wasting his time if he were to involve the rest.

If things could be settled by a simple discussion with Samson, then there was no need for a meeting.

“They’ve figured us out.” Samson replied before he added, “Which means we cannot hold them any longer.

Have you found anything about them?” “Not a thing.

It’s as if they didn’t even exist since two days ago.” Ahmad replied.

Samson nodded, “They probably have fake identities.

But they don’t appear to be from the liberation faction since we know all those who are strong among them.” “There is a chance they’re hidden weapons.” Ahmad argued but Samson shook his head, “If they were, they would have used them when we almost purged them out.

They’re not from the liberation faction or any faction for that matter.

Almost as if they came from beyond the dome.” “Such a thing is not possible,” Ahmad argued once again to which Samson nodded, “What is say is indeed illogical.

However, it would be wise if we don’t ignore such a possibility.” Ahmad remained silent.

He didn’t know what to say.

It was impossible to live outside the dome for extended periods of time.

The human body wasn’t strong enough for that.

Even Ahmad, with all of his power, couldn’t survive in the outside world for more than three days.

Equipment could extend that time by a week, but that was all.

Nothing more, nothing less.

“Give them what they want,” Samson eventually said.

Ahmad remained silent but in the end, he nodded and said, “I’ll prepare in case something goes wrong.” “Good.” Samson replied before their small meeting came to an end but before Ahmad could get up, Samson posed a question, “How is the heart doing?” Ahmad stopped.

The heart was his responsibility and he had jurisdiction over it as well.

If he were to will it so, no one else in the council could even know about the heart or even its whereabouts.

However, there was no need to conceal the information.

After all, they were all on the same side so Ahmad could divulge some information, although not much, “It’s reacting to it.

The heartbeat is particularly strong this time.

We’re trying to calm it down but from the looks of it, the heart’s beating way too fast.” “Is it deteriorating?” Samson asked.

Ahmad shook his head, “No.

It is as if it’s… excited.” “Since when?” Ahmad asked.

“Since six days ago,” Ahmad replied.

Samson couldn’t find the connection.

An anomaly that hadn’t occurred for centuries was happening at the moment.

Samson needed to know what the connection to it was.

Why was it so?

And if it had anything to do with their current situation.

“Extend the research on the newcomers back six days.

Explore the outer areas if you have to.

See when they came to this city at all costs.” Samson said.

Ahmad found it strange but it didn’t take him long to put the pieces together and he asked, “You don’t think…?” “Yes.

The chances are slim but they are there.

Figure it out, Ahmad.” Samson solemnly said and Ahmad nodded, sharing the same emotion.

~~ “These guns are strange.” The general said as he examined the gun in his hand.

It seemed like it was straight out of a fantasy movie with its strange and sleek black design.

It wasn’t even like typical guns that used bullets but it used energy blasts, a technology far beyond the general.

“It doesn’t matter,” Wei Jun said as he took all the guns and stored them in his inventory, making it appear like he was storing them in his spatial artifact.

Then he stored all the provisions and everything provided by the council such as equipment and details of the lair of the monster known as the Behemoth.

The general was curious about the weaponry but he decided to let it go for now.

Focusing on the mission was much more important.

They had been there for almost a week now.

They needed to make sure the dungeon was cleared before a week was up because that was the usual time before a dungeon’s barrier shattered and the monsters were let out in the real world.

Wei Jun and his team boarded the armored truck they had purchased and they made their way out of the city.

With the help of the council, they provided them with a portal that shortened their journey from three days to a mere minute and Wei Jun, along with his team, arrived at the outskirts of the city where a post seemed to have been constructed.

The portal technology was big enough to transfer the entire truck that was as tall as two fire trucks and as wide as three of them standing together.

Once they were there, they were led outside of the dome.

After getting out of the dome, they were told that it was a day’s worth of journey to the Behemoth’s lair.

“What is the plan?” The general asked Wei Jun.

Wei Jun remained silent for a while as if contemplating how to deliver the information but, in the end, all he could say was, “You’ll have to trust me on this one.” “…” The general remained silent but nodded nonetheless.

Seeing the general’s silence, the rest of the team didn’t say anything as well.

However, even if the people didn’t say anything, it didn’t mean they weren’t on guard.

In the end, Wei Jun was an outsider.

They hadn’t forgotten that reality.

He might have been there to clear the dungeon the same as them, but his loyalty was purchased.

Loyalty could never be purchased.

They followed him, but they didn’t trust him.

They were well aware of that fact and so was Wei Jun.

However, he couldn’t care less.

At the moment, he was focused on a more important matter.

{Return!} {Return, I say!} {Don’t go any further!} {If you do…} {You’ll die!}
