353: Tower of regrets (2) 353: Tower of regrets (2) Chapter 353 If I had to describe the scene around me in one word, it wouldn’t be described best.

Still, I tried my best to put it all in just one word… Death.

But like I said, that wouldn’t describe the scene best so I had a proper sentence to describe it.

‘Like death had passed by.’ Around me, all I could see was burning buildings.

Fallen, crumbled to pieces, all around me everything was like that.

The fire raged and smoke rose across the city.

The city was punished for something it had done.

All around the city, the rivers of blood flew towards one spot, the middle of the city.

In the middle of the city was where a giant castle stood.

Bigger than the palace of the Cortum empire, the castle was so big that its top almost met the clouds.

Now the strange aspects of this scene.

Blood comes from bodies yet there was nothing like that around here.

No body, not one, even of a bug.

Yet the blood was enough to drown a small-sized city.

The strangest aspect of this scene was also that.

Blood.

Typically, it should have flowed down the stream but it was flowing towards the castle.

The castle was higher than the sea level so it didn’t make any sense for the blood to flow upwards.

Well, who cared?

The point of this entire thing was to find out the reason behind this scene so there was no need to know what all of this was as long as I could understand the core of the problem.

So, I started making my way towards the castle.

It took me some time because it was very far away but the blood guided me where I needed to go.

All of it was flowing towards the inner castle where the royal court was supposed to be.

The blood was vanishing once it reached the door so when I opened it, the insides of the room were clean.

Well, if one didn’t count the nineteen or some bodies, it was very clean.

At the bottom of the staircase to the throne, stood a man with a sword in his hand.

Both the man and the sword were difficult for me to see but I could see the man on his knees next to the standing man on his left side.

He was standing there, looking at the throne, while the bloodied man on his left side was huffing and panting, bloodied all over.

“We didn’t know,” He kept on saying, on his knees, his expression full of regret.

There was not an ounce of willpower left in his being.

He had given up all hope.

All that was left was to beg.

Beg so the man standing next to him might find some mercy in his heart to forgive him.

“Of course, you didn’t,” The man said, his voice… hurt.

I could pick up remorse along with regret.

Now that wasn’t a nice recipe for sure.

It makes men do bad things, that combination.

And looking at the state of this city, I was guessing what I thought really happened here.

That man killed everyone.

Yet oddly, there were only bodies in this room.

Only these people mattered.

All the rest, however, were just the target of his anger.

A man who couldn’t his emotions, huh?

[There’s a word for that, isn’t there?] I suddenly heard Allison’s voice.

No something was going on here and I wasn’t stupid enough to guess what.

“Why are you showing me all this?” I asked.

[I’m not the one showing you] [You’re the one seeking] While I was having that conversation with Allison, the man on the other end was having a conversation of his own with the man on his knees.

I couldn’t hear any of it because I was busy, but it had something to do with revenge.

Just as I returned back to the scene, the man finally cut off the injured man’s head, and then, finally, he turned to me.

Now the scene before me was a little strange.

I felt like I had seen this man before, just like the younger prince.

Maybe they were the same but that wasn’t how I knew them.

It was something else.

Something deep.

Deep down like my… soul.

Realization soon struck me.

I looked at him, my eyes a little heavy.

I couldn’t believe everything I had seen up until this point.

But most of all, what I couldn’t believe was the massacre around me.

“Dad?” ~~ Just as I uttered the word, the scene around me changed once again.

I was in a different room now.

This one was a typical boss monster room.

With pillars around the room, a giant pedestal on one side, and the open sky even though there was a ceiling.

Unlike the first room I appeared in, if one could call it a room, the graveyard of regrets, there was nothing even close to negative in this room.

It wasn’t desolate for one, but there wasn’t anything cheery about it either.

It was just… neutral.

[You have reviewed the three fragments that make the Tower of Regrets] [Please answer the following questions] ‘What?

Like a quiz or something?’ [What was the first regret?] ‘Why should I answer?’ I asked.

[Answer incorrect] [You have two tries remaining] [What was the first regret?] ‘…’ I remained silent this time.

I didn’t know what Allison wanted but this wasn’t just about Allison.

This was more than that.

More than about me getting that heart.

“He didn’t return soon enough.

He returned, the man named Bryce when the pregnant woman called for him.

But he felt like he should have returned sooner.” I replied.

At first glance, it looked like the regret of the woman but it wasn’t.

It was the regret of the man she was calling for.

She didn’t want her child to be born in the middle of a war and looking at her state, her pregnancy was due.

By the time he returned, she had already given birth and my guess was that she didn’t survive.

Had the man arrived sooner, maybe he could have saved her or something like that.

So it was Bryce’s regret, not the woman’s.

[Answer correct] As soon as the monotonous voice of the system fell in my ears, the pedestal on the other side of the room began to move and after shaking a little, one torch in the room burned bright.

It illuminated the left side of the room but only the left side.

The strange part was that there was no torch there before and other than that, there wasn’t any other in the room as well.

[Please answer the second question] [What was the second regret?] “Not taking the crown,” I replied.

From the looks of it, the younger prince was happy when the elder one was granted the crown but it wasn’t meant for the elder brother.

The king wasn’t happy giving it to the elder brother.

He wanted the younger one to have it but the younger one denied it, probably because of his love for his elder brother.

He regretted making that decision.

He should have taken that crown.

Something bad wouldn’t have happened then but it did and he regretted it.

[Answer correct] Just as I answered, another torch burned behind me.

It illuminated the backside of the room and only that, nothing me.

Not even a ray of light illuminated the right side of the room even when it was right next to it.

[Please answer the third question] [What was the third regret?] ‘…’ Now that question felt like a cheat.

Allison distracted me at that moment so I didn’t know what it was.

I knew the man on his knees had done something bad.

Taken something from the other man, but I didn’t know what it was.

Whatever it was, the man was there for revenge.

Something had been taken away from him so he was there to destroy everything.

Take everything they held dear.

Allison didn’t let me hear so I didn’t know what it was about but… “Allison.” Only one word came to my mind.

Something deep down in my soul compelled me to say that word.

Say that name.

[…] [Answer correct] The torch on the right side burned as well, illuminating the right side of the room.

As I looked at that area and turned back to look at the pedestal, that was where I saw him, standing there, with the usual weapons in his hand.

[All answers correct] [You have earned the chance to meet and face the inheritor of death] [The Prince of Death] [Please defeat him to clear the Tower of Regrets] An unknown man, an unknown face.

The man standing before me was someone I had never, ever seen before in my life.

Not even in my dreams.

But, one look at him and I instantly knew who he was… “Dad.” CREATORS’ THOUGHTS Bad_Wolf_7811 Creation is hard, cheer me up!
