The Archangel of Death - Chapter 344
344: A confession 344: A confession Chapter 344 Matt arrived at an apartment.
He unlocked it using the master key which he was easily able to obtain by distracting the super downstairs.
Once he was in, he made sure to not make any sound and searched for anyone living inside but there was no one in the apartment.
Soon enough, he found some papers that belonged to the New York General about delivery.
Since he knew what was going on and when it was scheduled, he left her apartment and made his way to the hospital.
Unbeknownst to him, a black Sedan followed him to his destination.
As Matt arrived at his destination, he entered the hospital and immediately asked for the delivery ward.
It wasn’t long before he arrived there and knowing the name of his victim, he looked for the room with her name on it.
Unfortunately, there was none.
It meant she was in the general ward so he headed over there.
To his luck, the general ward, a room with only four beds, there was only one occupant.
There was a woman resting on the bed and near her was a crib where a baby could be seen.
“When Matt came, she opened her eyes.
Not seeing the person she was expecting, she asked, “Who’re you?” “Hello.
I’m Matt Bordeaux,” Matt introduced himself before he asked, “Are you Emily Jackson?” “Yes,” Emily replied, “Who are you?” “I was just hoping to ask you some questions.” Matt said, “I talked to the police and they said that you saw Lucy fighting with the victim.” “Yeah,” Emily replied before she asked, “Are you with the police?” “No.” Matt replied, “I’m a friend of the person who’s being wrongly convicted in this case.” “Oh,” Emily said, “Well, I already told the cops everything.
And quite frankly, that’s all I knew.
I don’t think I can help your friend.” “Of course, you can,” Matt replied, “If you’re not on the stand, then there’s nothing conclusive about this.” “What?” Emily was confused at that moment.
Very, very confused but not for long.
Pretty soon, Matt’s intentions became clear.
~~ “Stop!
Police!” Lauren barged in to find Matt trying to strangle Emily with a cord.
As soon as he saw Emily, he backed away and hurriedly threw the cord away.
He didn’t wait for the next second and took off his gloves, throwing them in a basket nearby.
After that, he raised his hand and said, “You got it wrong, officer.
I was just helping this woman.
She was choking.” “…” No answer came from Lauren who looked at Matt strangely as if he thought everyone was an idiot.
~~ “You have no evidence against me,” Matt said.
“We all saw you, Matt,” Lauren said.
“Is that so?
Do you have a recording to prove that?
Or do you just have the fact that you ‘saw’ something?
That’s not gonna fly by in the court.” Matt said.
It was true.
Since it was an urgent situation, the police couldn’t prepare anything beforehand.
All they had was a testimony of a bunch of cops.
As for the woman who was the actual victim in this case… “For all I know she could be delusional.
After all, she had just given birth.
I’m sure there would be traces of substances in her system.” Matt argued.
Once again, there was nothing to be done about it.
The gloves that Matt was wearing weren’t latex.
There was no fingerprint on them to prove they were his and once again, saying that some cops saw it wasn’t going to hold against a jury.
“We need a confession,” A prosecutor from the D.A.’s office said.
Lauren nodded as well but there was no use.
Soon, they would run out of time and would have to let Matt go.
The only silver lining was that Matt hadn’t asked for an attorney but that wouldn’t help when the guy knew more law than them.
“Call him,” A woman with an overbearing presence standing next to Lauren said.
“Sure thing, Captain,” Lauren replied and pulled out her phone.
“Hey, Aunt Lauren.
Calling so soon?” From the other side, a young cheerful voice could be heard.
“Don’t call me that, Gabriel.” Lauren said, a tinge of annoyance in her voice, “Just come here.
I need you.” “The way you say it makes me want to break the speed limit.” Gabriel amusingly said.
“Just get here,” Lauren said and cut the call.
In about ten minutes, a familiar, young, handsome man entered the precinct, his deep dark eyes looking for Lauren.
When he spotted her, he made his way over to her but soon, his expression turned distasteful when he saw the woman standing next to Lauren.
“Captain Ramirez.
Nice to see you.” Gabriel said, no niceness in voice at all.
“Lying is a bad habit, Mister Smith.” Captain Ramirez said.
“Well, then let me put it honestly,” Gabriel said before he looked at Ramirez with a smile and said, “I wished your husband divorced you and left you for a young, nineteen-year-old, Pilates instructor.
That’s how much I hate just seeing you.” “Watch your words carefully, Mister Smith.
I don’t care who your father is.
I will throw you in jail.” Ramirez said, her face as ugly as it could have been.
“Let me see you try,” Gabriel said with a smile, “You bit*h.” Gabriel’s hate for Ramirez was a story that ran too deep and no matter what, Gabriel wasn’t willing to forget her sins even to this day.
Even when all the events that happened were before he was even born.
“That’s enough, Gabriel,” Lauren interjected, stepped forward, and said, “Let’s let bygones be bygones.
Besides, I called you here, remember?
Not her.
Me.” Gabriel kept his eyes locked with Ramirez, murderous intent evident in his eyes which only Lauren could see.
Lauren held Gabriel’s hand and said, “We need to put some other bad guy behind bars.
Please.” Gabriel finally blinked.
He stepped back and said, “I’m not sure I should do this, Lauren.
It’s ultimately a favor to her.” “You share your mother’s impulses when it comes to criminals and right now, I’m asking you to put one behind bars.
Please.” Lauren pleaded.
She knew calling Gabriel wasn’t right, especially after what the NYPD and the D.A.
had done to her mother, but she also knew that only he could help in that situation.
Gabriel sighed and said, “Sure, why not?” Gabriel was led to the interrogation room and entered the room.
As he saw the man inside, he said, “So they caught you, huh?
I didn’t think they would even believe me when I said you were going to kill that woman.” “What?” Matt asked, a little confused but he was easily able to put the pieces together, “You’re the one who…” “Told the NYPD that you’re the killer and not that girl behind bars and also that you were going to take care of the only remaining witness that could incriminate your girlfriend.
Yes.
I did.” Gabriel said as he took the seat in front of Matt.
He sighed and said, “Look, buddy.
Usually, I would have done it the safer way.
A little more ethical way.
Found some evidence against you, use it against you and make you fess up the whole story.” “Confess what?
I didn’t do anything.” Matt said.
Gabriel remained calm and opened a file, “Now there have been many, many deaths around you.
Starting from your parents to your infant brother, your sister, her family, and her in-laws.
Many of your coworkers died mysteriously, with no evidence against them and certainly not a connection.
I mean, your family is a connection but you made sure to convict someone else for them, your elder brother.” “You don’t have friends yet you blend in perfectly.
Everything about you is squeaky clean.
You pay your taxes; you help out your neighbors.
Oh, and many of your neighbors have died for some reason too.
You have no crime committed against you and it took ten minutes for my network to piece this together.
No wonder NYPD could never figure you out.
Their incompetency aside, you’re actually very good.” Gabriel paused, closed the file in front of him, and said, “Now here’s what’s going to happen.
You will confess.
And I go home.” “Confess what?” Matt asked again, remaining calm as always.
“…” Gabriel remained silent for a while before he said, “You know, one other thing about you that I forgot to mention that you will also be getting the reward for the stalker of the century.” “Lucy.
I did a little digging on her.
She used to live in the same district where you, along with your parents lived.
One day, your parents decided to move out.
You didn’t want to.
So you killed them to make sure you don’t.” “Your sister insulted Lucy and pressed charges against him.
You killed her too.
Along with her family, of course.” “And so, all the killing that happened around you had another common factor among them.
Lucy.” “Look,” Gabriel leaned in again and said, “I know you did it all for her.
But…” “She doesn’t like you.
She will never like you.” Gabriel said, “I mean, even now, if I brought her into this room, she would choose me over you.” Matt remained silent, but his earlier calmness was nowhere to be seen.
He was breathing hard, his teeth gritting behind his closed mouth and his eyes spilling hate and anger.
“In fact,” Gabriel said as he stood up, “Let’s do it.” Gabriel left the room, went to the next room, behind the mirror, and turned off the one-way function.
When Matt saw into the other room, he was shocked to see Lucy there, standing as if she had seen a ghost.
Gabriel entered and without saying a word, he grabbed Lucy’s face and kissed her on her lips.
While she was even more shocked, Gabriel looked at Matt with his eyes, cold as they could have been, and kept kissing Lucy.
“NO!!!!!!
I’LL KILLL YOUUU.” Matt, like a madman, began to push everything he had near him away and ran towards the mirror.
Of course, he couldn’t make it outside the room so he picked up the chair and began to hit the mirror while saying everything he could to make Gabriel leave.
However, Gabriel didn’t.
He only dug deeper.
“Stop!!!
You’re defiling her!!!
Stop!!!
I did it!!!
So stop!!!
Please!!!
STOP!!!!” Seeing that there was no stopping it, Matt finally confessed.
Gabriel let go of Lucy and stepped back.
The next moment, Matt shook, as if he had seen a ghost, he looked at the man sitting in front of him, still looking at him with his eyes cold as he said, “I got everything I needed, Mister Bordeaux.
Let’s not see each other again.” As Gabriel left the room, Lauren stopped him, “What did you do to him?” “A simple mind manipulation.
His mental strength was too strong.
But I found a weak link.
Lucy.” Gabriel said as he left the precinct.
Leaving everyone shocked because, unlike Lauren, all they saw was that Gabriel entered the room, sat down, and asked the other person to confess, and like his order as absolute, Matt confessed everything like it was his life’s mission to do so.
And with that, he was sentenced to life in prison.
However, three days later, Matt was found dead in prison.
A shiv in his hand.
How did he die though?
No one knew.
