The Archangel of Death - Chapter 343
343: The past 343: The past Chapter 343 “Hey Matt,” A cheerful young woman greeted a good-looking young man.
The young man had blonde hair, deep dark golden eyes, and his signature mark, a stubble to finish his handsome look.
“Hey, Sara,” Matt replied to the cheerful girl with a cheerful smile, a dimple on her left cheek, and deep auburn hair with hazelnut eyes.
“What are you doing tonight?” Sara asked, “We’re all going to the club after we’re finished here.” “I don’t have any particular plans tonight.
I’ll be there.” Matt replied.
“Great,” Sara replied giddily and left to greet the others in the room.
Matt, however, remained in his spot, drinking his coffee, and enjoying the bitter taste.
While he remained in his spot, he also looked at others in the room, his colleagues.
The people he worked with every day.
He wondered… ‘Would they see me the same if they knew there was a dead body in the janitor’s closet?’ Matt thought.
A truth about him that only he knew.
Or his victims also knew in a way, just that they weren’t alive to do anything about it.
‘I need to take care of that as well.’ Matt thought as if his thoughts had reminded him of a task.
With that in mind, he excused himself during the lunch break and cleared his traces from that morning.
~~ “Hey Lucy, your boyfriend is coming too, right?” Matt stopped typing when he heard another one of his female colleagues ask Lucy the question.
He turned all of his attention to that and listened to their conversation.
“I don’t know.
I can’t get him on the phone today.” Lucy said, a little worry in her tone, “Maybe I was too harsh yesterday.” “The man cheated on you,” Lucy’s friend replied, “You have every right to be mad at him.” ‘You’re absolutely correct, girl whose name I don’t know.’ Matt agreed with Lucy’s friend without even knowing who she was.
Lucy remained silent to the remark which made her sigh, knowing she had said something complicated and she shouldn’t have steered the conversation in that direction.
“Come on.
Let’s find you someone else at the party tonight.” Lucy’s friend said, trying to cheer her up.
‘Yes!
Me!’ Matt replied instantly in his mind, hoping his thoughts would be heard by Lucy’s friend.
“I know a guy who is also single.
He’s definitely your type.” Lucy’s friend said, making Matt a little angry.
Okay, very, very angry.
However, only on the inside.
On the outside, he remained as he always was.
“I don’t know, Betty,” Lucy replied, as if conflicted about this decision, “I don’t know if I want to get back into dating so soon.” “Who said anything about dating?” Betty said, “Just meet him.
And if you like him, then give him a chance to blow your mind.
Then you can decide whether or not to date him.” “Really, Betty?” Lucy asked, “A one-night stand?” “Maybe that’s all you need right now in your life.
A relationship free of all these ties.” “I don’t know.” Lucy was still very, very conflicted.
‘That’s right Lucy.
Tell her.
Tell her you don’t need anything like that.’ Matt said in his mind, over and over again.
“You know what.
Why don’t you just meet him?
If it doesn’t work, then it doesn’t work.” Betty suggested.
‘No.
Don’t say it.’ Matt instantly said in his mind, as if he knew that Lucy would be convinced this time.
“Fine.
Call him tonight.
But I’ll decline the moment I find him uncomfortable.
I’ve had it with creeps.” Lucy replied, finally agreeing to her friend’s suggestions.
“Great!” Betty replied.
‘Haa…’ Matt, on the other hand, sighed and said in his mind, ‘Goodbye, Lucy.’ ~~ “Hey,” Matt said to Lucy, who was standing alone at the bar, “What are you doing here all alone?” “Waiting for Betty,” Lucy replied, “She’s almost never late on such occasions.
Yet there’s no sign of her today.” “Maybe she’s stuck in traffic.” Matt speculated.
“She takes the subway,” Lucy replied.
“Oh,” Matt said, “I didn’t know that.
Have you tried her phone?” “I have.
It goes straight to voicemail.” Lucy said.
“I’m sure she’ll be alright.
She’s an adult after all,” Matt said.
“Yeah.
I’m sure it’s just me.” Lucy said, still a little worried.
“Miss Diaz?” A voice interrupted their conversation from the side.
“Yes?” Lucy replied.
“Detective Simmons.
NYPD.
May I ask you a few questions?” A tall but beautiful woman approached Lucy and showed her the shield of the NYPD.
Lucy became a little tense and asked, “What is this about?” “Do you happen to know a Betty Sanchez?” The detective asked.
“Yes.
She’s my friend.” Lucy replied.
“Is that all your relationship is?” The detective asked.
“No.
We’re also work colleagues.” Lucy replied.
“What is this about?” Matt interjected, seeing that Lucy was clearly unsettled.
Also, he had a personal agenda at hand.
“We found an unidentified dead body earlier today.
We managed to pull some prints.
They tied back to some juvenile records.
They belonged to one Betty Sanchez.
The time of death was put between noon today.” The detective explained her reason for coming, shocking everyone around who could hear but the one who was most shocked was none other than Lucy.
“No.
That… That’s not possible.
She left early today to get ready for the party.
She needed to run some personal errands and she told me she’d be back.” Lucy was distraught and didn’t know what to say.
Whatever she was saying didn’t hold any sense of reality to her because she was still finding it very hard to believe that her friend was dead.
Especially when she was with her exactly until noon.
“When did you see her last?” The detective asked.
“I-I don’t know… I don’t really remember…” Lucy couldn’t come up with an answer to which the detective replied, “Maybe you’d like to follow me to the station where I can properly take your statement.” “I’m sure she’s not under arrest, is she?” Matt interjected once again.
“And you are?” The detective asked.
“Matt Bordeaux.
I’m an assistant manager at my firm.
I knew Diaz.
She was a work colleague.” Matt replied.
“Well, currently, she’s the only one who knows the victim better than anyone here so unfortunately, I’ll have to do with her.
As for her being under arrest, then you can be assured that she isn’t.” The Detective replied.
“Then I’m sure answering questions in the presence of a lawyer wouldn’t be a problem.” Matt was unrelenting about it.
“Not unless she has something to hide.” The detective replied, her demeanor not so friendly at the moment.
“It’s okay.
I’ll come.
Anything I can do to help.” Lucy hurriedly said, ending the battle of wits between Matt and the detective.
“No, you don’t get it, Lucy.
These people know how to trap you into saying things that could incriminate you.
Being in the presence of a lawyer is better.” Matt suggested, giving a good reason that couldn’t be argued against.
“Well, then,” The detective said, “You can call for one.
However, right now, you’re interfering with an ongoing investigation.
Would you like me to ring you up on that?” The detective was also unrelenting.
Seeing no other option out of it, Matt could only arrange for a lawyer but Lucy once again declined and left with the detective.
Matt remained in his place, cementing the image of the detective in his mind, making sure he remembered who she was.
He needed to remember his target.
After all, if anything happened to Lucy, someone had to pay.
~~ The next day, Lucy didn’t come to work.
When Matt asked the manager, the manager replied, “Didn’t you hear?
Lucy’s been arrested.” “What?!
Why?!” Seeing Matt so unsettled, the manager was taken aback a little but he still replied, “Sh-she was convicted of double homicide.
Apparently, the police found her boyfriend, Nathan’s dead body as well.” Matt couldn’t hear the rest.
Everything blacked out.
He didn’t know what to do.
“How… is that possible?” Matt asked.
“A woman saw Nathan and Lucy fighting the night before he went missing.” The manager replied.
“What woman?” Matt asked.
“Some pregnant woman.
The body was also discovered from a dumpster two blocks away from Lucy’s apartment.” The detective replied when Matt asked her.
“Are you sure?” Matt asked, “She could be mistaken.” “Yes, we have evidence.” The detective replied.
“What evidence?” Matt asked.
The detective didn’t reply to that because she looked in a certain direction where a young man, immensely handsome, with pitch-dark hair and dark eyes, entered the precinct.
She raised her hand to wave at him, “Here.
Gabriel.” The young man turned to her and made his way to her.
He stopped next to her and said, “Hey Lauren.
Mom said you needed my help with something.” “Yes, let me just deal with this first.” Lauren turned to Matt and said, “Look, the witness is in labor so she cannot be questioned at the moment.
Once she has given birth, we will make sure to proceed with this case then.” “But could I have her contact information?
Please.
Lucy’s a friend.” Matt said.
“I’m sorry.
I cannot give you that information.” Lauren replied.
“Please!” Matt yelled, standing on his feet and smashing the table in front of him.
It looked like he was about to attack Lauren but Lauren remained in her spot, unfazed.
She calmly looked at Matt and said, “Do that again, and I will throw in that cell over there for quite a long time.” Matt calmed down, seeing no other option, and he left.
“If you didn’t want to tell him, you should have hidden it better,” Gabriel said.
“What do you mean?” Lauren asked.
“He saw the info when he shook your table,” Gabriel replied.
“What?” Lauren checked and it was right.
The paperwork shifted a little, allowing some information on it to be visible.
“What was he here for?” Gabriel asked.
“He was here for her friend who we found connected to a double homicide.
We’re still investigating but it looks like she’s going away for a long time.” Lauren replied.
“She didn’t do it,” Gabriel replied.
“How do you know?” Lauren asked.
“Cause he did it.” Gabriel replied, looking at the back of the leaving Matt, and added, “And he’s going to kill the woman in labor as well.” CREATORS’ THOUGHTS Bad_Wolf_7811 Creation is hard, cheer me up!
