339: Target (1) 339: Target (1) Chapter 339 “Guard her,” I said as I left the infirmary, leaving Becca behind and making my way to the walls of the camp.

As I arrived, I saw about a number of five hundred silica running in this direction.

“Keep an eye on her,” I said.

“On who?” The captain next to me asked.

“I wasn’t talking to you,” I said and prepared to deal with the silica coming over here.

[Magic Cannon x100] At level one hundred, 100 Magic Cannon was my limit because the MP was limited to 500 at my current level.

The INT stat also wasn’t affecting the increment in my MP so I was stuck with just that much.

The good thing was that I could still replenish it using shop potions.

The bad news was… [You have eliminated an unknown entity] [Error] [No EXP can be gained from artificially created beings] Artificial beings.

Something that wasn’t born through the natural ways of the world.

In other words, no life existed in those things.

Even when I killed the converted silica of the fatty mayor, I still gained no EXP.

The bad news was that I couldn’t use this method to find out if there was silica in my camp or not because this method was only possible upon death.

Anyway, the heads of the things began to pop one after another and one cannon was easily enough to kill almost five or six of them.

In just one attack, the number of silica left wasn’t even ten percent of the original and even they were missing some limbs here and there.

The rest were taken care of by the soldiers who shot them to death.

The episode was short and precise and there was nothing to be worried about.

And unlike what I expected, no one approached Becca as well.

I kept my attention on her the entire time and in that time, no one even tried to approach her.

No one in the camp moved as well.

But that wasn’t the end of the news.

The bad news was that there were still thousands of those beings in the distance.

They were too many.

Many more than when I first observed them when I came here.

Even if it was me, dealing with all of them wouldn’t be easy because of my limited level.

I could only hope they would also rush towards this place in small groups like this one.

If they didn’t, even I wouldn’t be able to deal with them so easily.

Still, I had a lot of tricks left up my sleeve and if push came to shove, I could still somehow deal with them.

It wouldn’t be easy, of course, but I’ll be able to push through.

[Only if that number didn’t increase anymore] ‘Are you not familiar with the word ‘Jinx’?’ I left the wall and returned to the infirmary.

I asked the soldiers to catch a few of them alive because I wasn’t done examining them yet.

I still needed some information and that was only possible if there were more samples.

‘Let’s go check on Becca.’ ~~ [Are you not curious?] ‘About what?’ I asked.

[Why you’re here or where this is?] A logical question.

Ever since I came here, I didn’t even once wonder where I was or how was I here.

The question of ‘why’ was pretty far away.

However, in the end, I wasn’t curious.

The answer was right before me.

“She’s growing healthy,” I said as I examined Becca.

Her swollen stomach indicated she decided to keep the baby and I was easily able to probe the gender of the baby.

“She’s… unique,” Becca said, not really sure what words to use.

It didn’t seem like she was completely on terms with her circumstances but she had at least decided against abortion which was a pretty big step.

“How’s the pain?” I asked.

“Only slight aches these days.

Ever since you started doing that hand thing, it doesn’t hurt anymore.” Becca replied while pushing herself up.

It had been four months ever since I came to this world.

There were many things I noticed in that time frame.

First of all, was that I wasn’t aging.

Of course, I was an immortal and I wouldn’t age beyond a certain point but that was for my original body, not this one.

However, even this one wasn’t aging.

As if it was stuck in time.

I had no idea what it was and even when I tried, I arrived at no conclusion so I decided to stop worrying about it.

The second thing was this world.

I couldn’t go away from the camp for longer periods of time but [Fly] required only 100 MP and lasted for a minute, and with my control, it was easy to fly far away, though it did consume massive stamina which was very, very tiring.

Anyway, this world wasn’t a world but a dimension.

A pocket dimension, in simpler words.

If I had to compare it to my world, then its size was somewhere around the island of Australia.

This world was artificially created.

And the time here wasn’t acting on me.

[Then that means…] Yep.

This dimension belonged to someone.

Someone human.

Someone who dealt in time.

Someone… crazy.

I couldn’t be sure of it but whatever it was, it had to do with this silica thing.

If I had to guess, then this place was a factory.

A factory where something was being constructed.

What, though, I had no idea.

And then there was this mystery before me.

The child who was absorbing my powers, the powers of life, at an astonishing rate.

Only I could absorb the power of life so fast so it was a mystery.

What was this thing?

I touched the stomach of Becca and said, “I’m sure you will be pain-free soon.” “I hope so,” Becca replied and closed her eyes to sleep.

I remained close to her because I needed to guard her.

The attacks of the silica were becoming more and more frequent as days passed.

At first, there was only one attack per day but now, ten to fifteen attacks a day were the norm.

Their number still remained the same which was a relief so I could still deal with them.

But I couldn’t go away from Becca for a long time as well.

The baby in her carved my life power as she grew every day.

If it wasn’t supplied, Becca would be in excruciating pain.

Ring!

Ring!

Ring!

Bells rang which indicated another attack.

It was the sixteenth attack of today.

I sighed and made my way towards the wall.

I was easily able to deal with this attack as well.

However, just because I was able to, I wasn’t free of worry.

There was still something.

Something that I hadn’t seen.

I knew it had something to do with Becca or to be more precise, the child in her stomach, however, I just couldn’t put the pieces of the puzzle together even though the answer was right in front of my eyes.

Another problem with the camp was the morale of the camp.

The food problem was solved with me and I was also helping them with crops and cattle.

However, the increasing number of attacks on the silica was taking its toll on the soldiers and the people were scared as well.

There were talks of relocation of the camp but it wasn’t possible at all.

Ignoring the fact that this place had a tactical advantage due to it being surrounded by hills on one side and the other side covered by walls.

The sole fact that those things would follow us anywhere we went was enough of a reason to silence all the talks about relocation.

While the people of this world thought the silica were just monsters, I thought otherwise.

The attacks were too coordinated for them to be simple monsters.

Someone was controlling them.

And who that someone was… Well, that question was answered today.

“Excited?” I asked Becca.

It had been almost nine months and she was close to giving birth.

She looked at me with a smile and said, “I honestly don’t know.

But I know one thing for sure.” She looked at her swollen belly and said with an even bigger smile, “I don’t regret this.” “That’s more than enough,” I said with a smile and tended to her.

She was completely my responsibility and it even included embarrassing things.

She was uncomfortable with that at first but I couldn’t let anyone else get close to her.

I didn’t know who was a human and who wasn’t.

Since I couldn’t take the risk, I took care of everything regarding her.

“You know,” she said once I was done feeding her, and in doing so her child, my life energy.

“You never told me your name.” “Would it matter?” I asked.

“I need to know to tell her stories of you.” She said.

I nodded and said, “It’d be an honor for me to be someone’s hero.

And I’d appreciate it even more if you could make the stories only good ones.” “Not many of those.” She said.

“Haha.” I chuckled before I said, “Gabriel.

My name is Gabriel.” “Ah!” She yelped as I said my name.

“What’s wrong?” I asked.

“She just kicked,” Becca said with a happy smile, her excitement beyond what could be normal.

And while it was a big moment for her, for me, it was something else.

Something else I felt.

Something deep down.

Something… familiar.

Someone… familiar.

“Sir!” I was brought out of my trance by a soldier’s call.

I turned to look at him and all I could see was despair.

“You need to see this, sir.” He said as if all hope had been lost.

Even in me.

I turned to look at Becca who was also a little worried now.

I smiled and held her hand, “Don’t worry.

I’ll be back soon.” And that day… I was back soon.

Just not soon enough.
