338: Target 338: Target Chapter 338 “Here’s what we found after a thorough examination of a silica and a turned silica,” I said as I handed over papers to the scientists.

The core of the silica was human.

Completely human.

Why were they called silica was beyond me but I wasn’t here to judge that.

Besides, I was more stumped by what I found out myself.

The core of the silica was human.

All elements involved were found in the human body down to the last teeth.

Calcium, sodium, carbon, hydrogen, and everything to almost 99 percent of the human body was made of elements consisting of a human body.

All that was left was the soul.

However, there was no soul.

It also didn’t make any sense why they were allergic to salt brine.

It was almost as if it wasn’t… “Can we trust this?” A scientist asked.

I nodded and said, “I was shocked as well but it’s the truth.

What I can’t get my head around is this salt brine thing.

Salt doesn’t hurt then and nor does water.

However, mix them both and it hurts them.

It just doesn’t make any sense.” “It doesn’t have to.

It at least works against them.” One of the scientists said.

I get that he was scared and looking for any kind of weapon against the silica, but such irrational thinking was never wise.

Whatever, I didn’t have the time to argue with them.

I dismantled both samples yet I didn’t find anything.

The only difference between both of the samples was humanity, intelligence, or in simpler words, a soul.

Other than that, everything was the same.

Their structure was the same, their DNA remained the same as the silica.

Their bone structure changed depending on who they were biting, but there wasn’t any major difference.

And, most importantly, they were both affected by salt brine.

Salt brine was like acid to them.

It was the only way to distinguish between the silica and humans.

Only way… Fu*k.

[Whoever it is] [Is quite smart] Yep.

There was no way to distinguish the monsters and silica.

They were already in the camp.

Most likely everywhere.

And they were looking for something.

Or… Someone.

~~ “Argh!!” A woman grunted as she held her stomach.

Her stomach was in pain for some days now.

It only got severe recently.

“Becca.

Are you alright?” Another woman asked the woman who was grunting in pain, Becca.

Becca shook her head and said, “It’s probably nothing.

Maybe it’s all the food.” “What if it isn’t?” The woman asked with concern and advised Becca, “How about you visit the doctor?

The new mayor is healing everyone.” “The new mayor?” Becca asked, remembering the man who appeared out of nowhere in front of her eyes and killed an entire group of silica with a wave of his hands.

“Right.

I was also surprised when he came, giving everyone all that food.

He even got rid of the rotten soldiers and that accursed mayor.” The woman cursed the people who weren’t very ethical and thanked the man who got rid of them all in her heart.

Becca, however, wasn’t very trusting of the new mayor.

In such times, why would someone offer so much food and not just food, why would anyone simply be just kind to anyone else?

He had a motive.

Becca could feel it.

She just didn’t know what it was.

“I think you should visit him.

He’s quite handsome as well.” The woman said with dreamy eyes.

“Don’t fall for looks.” Becca said, “Looks can be very, very deceiving.” She spoke from personal experience.

So even if the new mayor was dreamily handsome, she was wary of him.

She had fallen for that trap once.

She didn’t want to make the same mistake again.

However… “Argh!!!” The pain in her stomach intensified tenfold suddenly.

So much so that she fell to the ground and began to scream her lungs out.

“Becca!” The woman with Becca yelled and then called for help.

~~ “What’s with her?” I looked at the obviously pregnant woman in front of me.

Another mystery I couldn’t seem to figure out.

She was pregnant alright and it wasn’t the same case as mine, and her child was properly in the oven.

But she was still in pain for some reason.

I checked her thoroughly but there was nothing about her.

The fetus was growing at the normal pace and there wasn’t anything wrong with her either.

Then I didn’t know why she was still in such massive pain.

Seeing there was nothing I could do about it, I placed a rune on her.

It was a magical rune that would transfer all her pain to me.

The pain that was massive to her wouldn’t be that much for me.

Or so I thought but… “Ahhh!!!” She was still in pain and nothing was being transmitted to me.

I couldn’t find what was wrong with her so I tried to directly probe her body with my life energy and heal her but suddenly, she began to absorb all of my power.

No.

It wasn’t her.

The fetus.

The life energy I was giving was going straight to it.

It was absorbing all of it.

And it was… Growing?

Now this wasn’t anything human.

This was definitely supernatural.

There was something going on but what was it, I couldn’t understand.

One thing was for sure, the woman wasn’t in pain anymore when the fetus began to feed on my life energy.

After some time, the fetus stopped and the woman settled down as well.

She was still in pain from the looks of it, but she wasn’t screaming at least.

“How long have you been pregnant?” I asked once she was well enough to talk.

She looked at me, resentment in her eyes as she said, “I didn’t know I was.” “Well, that’s bound to happen when you don’t suit up.” I joked to lighten the mood but she wasn’t laughing.

Uh-oh.

[Uh-oh indeed] I hated situations like these.

“When?” I asked.

“Two weeks ago.

He was handsome just like you.” She said before she looked at me, “Sweet just like you.” “Well, you don’t have to worry about me,” I said.

“That’s what he said,” She countered to which I had no reply.

It was a shame to admit, but most scumbag humans were the handsome ones, just like me.

I was only raised right.

Usually, rich, handsome men like me were left to their own devices by their parents and most of the time, they didn’t turn out to be like me.

Well behaved and respectful.

[…] [Even now…] Anyway, the problem was that she was traumatized and there was nothing I could do about it.

I simply sighed and said, “What do you plan to do then?” She looked at me, knowing what my question meant, and replied, “I’m gonna get rid of it.” “I have no right to tell you what to do,” I said as I stood up, “But, are you sure you wanna do it?” “Why wouldn’t I?” She snapped.

“So the same thing doesn’t happen again,” I replied.

“I know of someone.

Someone who went through the same thing as you.

She, however, didn’t do what you’re planning to do.

She raised that child.

When asked why she did that, she replied, ‘So the same thing doesn’t happen again.'” I recounted the unfortunate life of someone I once knew.

“If it’s a boy, then teach him so he doesn’t do such a thing to another woman.

And if it’s a girl, then teach her to protect herself.

But if you do what you want to do, then the same thing will happen again anyway.

Your life, however, will be meaningless as ever.” [Smooth] Sometimes, being harsh was the correct thing to do.

Besides, she needed to know what she was going to do.

The consequences of doing so, and most of all, the act of aborting a life.

In modern times, abortion was very normal.

Almost as if deciding to buy chicken instead of beef one day.

However, in some religions, such acts were considered murder and while I wasn’t a religious person myself, I believed the same.

I always advised against abortion even when the people involved wanted the very same thing.

But that was all I did.

Give advice.

Because in the end, everyone was accountable for their own actions.

They didn’t answer to me nor did I answer for them.

“Decide,” I said as I stood up and prepared to leave, “Whether or not you want your life to be meaningful or not.” She seemed conflicted about her decision.

Deep down, she didn’t want to do it as well, which was a few words like that seemed to have worked.

Whatever decision she made, I just didn’t want her to regret it.

Also, the child in her belly was not really a child.

It was something else.

Something beyond human.

And I needed to know what it was.

“Sir!” A soldier barged into the infirmary while I was taking off the surgical gloves.

“What?” I asked.

“Silica.

Hundreds of them!

They’re coming here!” I turned to look at the woman and then turned to leave.

It was her.
