The Archangel of Death - Chapter 315
315: Relieve him 315: Relieve him `Chapter 315 “Arrgghhh!!” A fat man yelled, not in pain but in anger.
The reason for his anger was simple, “Those arrogant martial artists!
How dare they treat me, the imperial prince, so carelessly?!
Was it too much asking for one woman?!” The man in golden armor, who stood next to the fat man, looked at the fat man with disgust but all said and done, the fat man was the imperial prince.
Such a status could not be so easily disregarded, even by the officials of the imperial palace.
Martial artists were, however, an entirely different story.
While they respected the imperial family, they weren’t obligated to obey it.
In simpler words, the people of Jiagnhu weren’t under the jurisdiction of the empire.
That didn’t mean they could belittle the imperial family though.
One thing the Jianghu lacked was the number of people.
Normal civilians.
Martial artists had a low birth rate due to their cultivation and even if they didn’t, martial artists were mostly interested in getting stronger than having a family.
But the world couldn’t function without the normal people and no matter how strong the martial artists were, they couldn’t rule over all of the people.
IT had happened before which caused a major genocide in Murim but it helped no one because many of the martial artists were killed in that campaign as well.
So there was a need to control the people but that would be difficult when they’d refuse to obey the martial artists and since the latter couldn’t kill the former, they had no other choice but to compromise.
The said compromise was the imperial family.
A mortal family that would rule over the commoners in return for protection.
Civilians were required by all types of factions.
Just faction, evil faction, or even the demonic faction.
Because in the end, the martial artists weren’t farmers but they needed food to survive as well.
That was where commoners came in the story.
The imperial family would arrange that, regardless of the faction, and in return, it would be protected by the factions of Jianghu and the people would also be, at least to some extent, protected by the martial artists.
With that arrangement, the imperial family was respected, even if it was forcibly so, in two aspects.
One was because they controlled the commoners and the second was because… “Just they wait.
I will make sure to let the evil faction have more workers and better metals this year.
Then we’ll see how they act arrogant against us.” The fat man said.
That was exactly so.
The imperial family did all sorts of menial tasks that were actually very important to the martial artists.
They farmed, they mined and they crafted items, items that the Jianghu factions needed because, once again, they were only good for one thing and that was getting stronger.
They were also great at fighting but that was covered in the getting stronger part.
The imperial family, that controlled these aspects, could also choose to make one side stronger which wasn’t in anyone’s best interests but it was a move to show the might of the imperial family.
“The emperor wouldn’t be happy, your highness,” The golden knight said but the fat man only laughed in turn as he said, “That old man has lost all his screws.
We need to show these arrogant martial artists how great of an enemy we can be but instead, we’re dancing to their whims.” “We need to show them how terrifying we can be.” “You sure do,” They heard a playful voice before… “What a nice day to kill.” And then there was nothing but blood on the campsite.
~~ “Wha…What happened?” An old man with a golden crown and a golden robe on his body said, his hands trembling as he tried to touch the dismembered body of his child but his other son stopped him, “Please don’t, father.
You cannot see what is underneath.” “Unhand me!” The old man said in anger before he said, “I want to see what those monsters did to my child.” The man who tried to stop the old man reluctantly stepped back, knowing it was useless trying to hold the old man back.
He turned to the physician and said, “Be ready.” “Yes, Your Highness,” The physician replied, signaling the rest of his men.
Everyone knew that the emperor wasn’t in good health.
He was close to passing away but he was persevering.
While his elder son wasn’t someone good at anything, the old man still believed that he would turn over a new leaf and inherit his place.
The younger son was everyone’s choice but he believed his younger son wasn’t actually his so he only wanted his older son, the one he knew was his, to inherit his throne.
The younger son, who cared for the old man, was really hurt over this but he loved his father more than he wanted a throne so he remained silent and just continued to bear insults.
The emperor, with his trembling bony hands, removed the white covers from the dismembered body of his son, and what he saw was enough to give him a stroke of his life.
Fortunately, or unfortunately for some, he didn’t die because his younger son had the physicians ready for him.
~~ “Is there anything on who killed elder brother?” The younger son of the emperor, Prince Hua Luo asked the members of the court.
“We cannot say for certainty, Your Highness,” One of the advisors spoke, “The rest of the caravan wasn’t injured in the slightest.
All they remember is getting ready to set the campsite before everything went black.
When they came to, everything had already happened.” “What did the physician say?
Has there been a same pattern of the same type of killing before?” Hua Luo asked.
“Once again, we cannot say for uncertainty, but there have been reports of a feud back at the just faction.
The Murim alliance offended the deceased prince when he forced himself on the daughter of the Namgoong family.” Another elder replied, shame evident in his tone because the actions he was talking about weren’t the actions of an imperial prince but a thug.
“I admit that my brother’s actions were not worthy of the imperial family but that doesn’t mean he could be disrespected like that.
And the fact that it could be a murder is worse.
Find out what happened there and what was the Namgoong family’s response.
Also, see if you can find out what they did after that.” Hua Lou instructed.
“You think they could have done this, Your Highness?” Another official asked.
“There’s certainly a possibility.
Find out about it.” Hua Luo said, dismissing the meeting but before anyone could leave, a voice entered their ears, a voice full of anger but filled with heavy grief as well, “No need for an investigation!
Fix a meeting with the leader of the dark faction.
I wish to meet with him.” “Your majesty, that would be–” An official tried to say something but well aware of what he was about to say, the emperor angrily cut him off, “My son is dead!
I don’t care if what I’m doing is right or wrong!
Fix a meeting!
I will avenge my son before I die!” Everyone turned to look at the prince, Hua Luo to talk some sense into the old man.
Hua Luo looked at his father, knowing this was a serious matter, and no matter how much the emperor loved the older brother, this was pure madness and the imperial family might end up as nothing due to this war.
“What are you looking at, you son of a vile wh***?!” The emperor yelled, calling his only remaining son with an insult that should have been a crime punishable by death for normal people but that was how the second concubine was known around the palace.
Hua Luo swallowed the words on his tongue and said, “I apologize, father.
I will see to it that your will is done.” “Do that and then get out my sight!
Your face reminds me of that wh***!!!” The emperor yelled and then left, leaving Hua Luo with his head down.
“If I may, Your Highness,” One of the elders spoke.
“Yes?” Hua Luo permitted the elder to say what he wanted.
“Do you really think that the imperial family should be ended because of one man who thought nothing of anything other than his own lasciviousness?” The elder asked.
Everyone knew what that meant.
Even Hua Luo knew what that meant.
His older brother, well, half-brother, was such kind of a person who did bad things to anyone in his sight.
No one in the palace wanted him to be the king.
“If you were to take the stand, and hopefully I speak for everyone here, we will stand with you.
Because deep down, even you know,” The elder placed his hand on the prince’s wrist and said, “This is madness.” Hua Luo had no choice but to heed that request.
So, with a heavy heart, he said, “Relieve father from his position.” “Yes, Your Majesty,” Came a collective response.
