The Archangel of Death - Chapter 299
299: I concede 299: I concede Chapter 299 I was called to the emperor’s office.
It didn’t take a genius to know what he wanted from me and what this was all about.
Well, whatever it was, it wasn’t good news for me.
After all, I made sure to thoroughly break Rebecca Mikhail and that wouldn’t make the Mikhail house happy.
Especially after when I found out that Rebecca was supposed to be the wife of an heir of a duke household with the status of a Grand Duke.
The boy himself didn’t have a title and his father also only had the title of a duke, but their great grandfather, some ancestor of theirs achieved the status of a Grand Duke, making them a big deal around.
And now with the elevated status of the Mikhail household, they must think they could get what they wanted.
Especially when I was supposedly at mistake which I wasn’t but the world didn’t care about that.
All they saw was a fine me and a broken big chested woman.
No need for a trial, put me straight to the guillotine.
Damn feminism.
[Choose your next words very carefully] I forgot I had a woman by my side as well thus proving my point.
Anyway, I arrived at the chamber and the Silver Knights outside allowed me entry.
Once I did, I saw three familiar people and three unfamiliar ones who I had seen on several occasions but wasn’t ever interested in making an acquaintance.
“How can I help you this fine evening, gentlemen?” I merrily asked which, for some reason, made the atmosphere awkward.
I wonder why?
“Take a seat,” Orion said with a heavy tone.
I chuckled and made my way to my seat.
I sat in with a jubilant expression and asked, “You called for me, grandfather?” “You will address the emperor with his proper title, prince,” Bayern spoke, his tone calm and collected but anyone could tell he didn’t like the way I addressed the emperor.
“Well, he is my grandfather, is he not?” I asked.
“Enough!” A heavy dude who I saw at the court earlier in the day said.
“I don’t care about that.
What I want to know is why he did that to my daughter.
Was destroying her life not enough?” He asked.
Nothing about him suggested that he was sad about this unfortunate incident.
Whatever he was suggesting was probably related to Adrian’s past.
Whatever it was, I wasn’t interested.
I never was interested; I never will be interested.
All that mattered right now was that I was being used and I didn’t like that fact.
Was losing a son and a daughter not enough?
How many backups did he have?
“Who are you again?” I asked.
“You!!!” The heavy dude spoke.
His voice was full of anger, true one this time which suggested he cared about himself more than his children.
“This is esteemed Duke Mikhail,” Bayern spoke, informing me of the man’s origin.
“That would be Grand Duke Mikhail, Sir Bayern.” Mikhail condescendingly corrected Bayern which Bayern didn’t like from his expression which made Mikhail a little unsettled as well.
All said and done, a divine rank was still a divine rank, and an almost divine rank was just that.
“Explain what happened to Rebecca Mikhail.
Do not leave anything out.” Zarden said from the sidelines.
I nodded and began.
I told them everything about how she showed up with some guards, how she threatened me with a contract, how her guards disrespected me, how Max disrespected her, and how she called Rose a bad word which made me snap so I made sure she was nothing but an empty shell from that moment on.
Each and everything I said was the truth.
Of course, I left out how I tortured her.
They needed the truth, how the truth happened was irrelevant.
I tortured her, and that was the truth.
‘How’ was the irrelevant part.
“You monster!!!” A young-looking guy in his early to mid-twenties, I guess, stood up and yelled at me.
“Careful, buddy,” I said before I turned to the man next to him, “Don’t you know Duke Mikhail recently lost a son?” His expression turned ugly as he asked, “What does that have to do with anything?” “Accidents happen is all I’m saying.
Yesterday, it was Duke Mikhail’s son.
Today, it could be yours.
We wouldn’t want such a tragedy now, would we?
So why don’t you control him?
He says another word in this meeting, this would be his last day on this planet.” I gave a clear and concise message.
My message relayed two things.
One, a clear threat.
And second… “You bastard!!!” Mana erupted from Duke Mikhail.
Of course, it was the mana of anger.
He was angry.
Why wouldn’t he be though?
I just told him who it was who killed his son.
Of course, it was subtle and they had no way of tying it to me, and that way, the old men wouldn’t be able to tie up the mess of the capital to me but now at least they knew how crazy I was.
Almost instantly, Bayern’s mana also rose to a great limit, canceling Mikhail’s mana.
“Hahaha.” I couldn’t help but laugh, the mockery in my laughter clear to the even most idiotic ones.
My laughter only cemented my crazy image in the eyes of everyone here.
Now I knew I was the one called here for an answer but before we got to that, I wanted to make one thing clear.
“You think the nightmare of the empire was the worst threat this empire faced?” I asked.
Instantly, everyone’s gaze changed.
Fear coursed through their eyes and even Orion couldn’t help but slightly trembled as he remembered back to the man who once called him ‘father’, beating the sh*t out of him.
“Well, let’s just say I’m worse,” I finished my threat.
So far, I had shown with my actions the kind of power I held.
How crazy I was and how far I could go which I proved by inciting the fight within the capital.
I wouldn’t have had to reveal that fact, although cryptically, if not for Rebecca making me angry.
“You do know what your words hold, don’t you?” Zarden asked.
“Haha.” I chuckled.
My expression was still the easygoing I had but my tone was anything but that as I replied, “You think I don’t know that?
If I wanted this empire down the gutter, you wouldn’t have had to worry about the church, the seven kingdoms, or the allied forces.
I helped you because I thought of this empire as an ally.
If you want me to be an enemy, I’m perfectly fine with that as well.” “But before you do, do remember that the church is hiding behind a barrier, the seven kingdoms are now obeying you like loyal puppies and the damage done to the allied kingdoms is far worse than it has ever been.” I did all that.
Me.
Alone.
Zarden looked at Orion and nodded.
That was a great speech but that wasn’t enough to convince them.
However, Orion and Zarden knew what no one else did.
The supposed power of the angels.
I had it.
That made me dangerous as well as valuable.
Lose me and you lose a great chance of losing a power that was on the same level as the holy saint.
They weren’t stupid enough to do that.
But they wouldn’t also ignore what I did.
Someone had to be punished and someone had to be placated.
They just had to decide which one.
“Is it true that Lady Mikhail brought armed knights to the prince’s chambers?” And they chose me since that was what Zarden asked Mikhail.
“She was obviously worried for her safety!” Mikhail raised a valid point.
“Did she inform anyone that there was a risk to her life from Prince Adrian?” Zarden asked.
“Given the incident three years ago, she didn’t need to inform anyone.
We all know of prince’s lascivious nature.” Mikhail said.
Another valid point sadly.
“Then what was Lady Mikhail doing in the prince’s chambers herself?
Why wasn’t someone else sent instead of her?” Zarden once again asked.
“She was the only one who had the mana contract,” Mikhail said but this time, his tone was hesitant.
“Are you telling me that a contracted individual managed to harm a contractor?” Zarden asked.
No answer was returned.
Since that was the case, that would mean the contract wasn’t valid.
Now either they didn’t know about it which was very unlikely in this case, or they knew about it and decided to swindle the imperial family anyway.
That was a very serious accusation and if not a proper reply was given, then the Mikhail family would be the one to end up paying despite incurring heavy losses because of me.
“…” Mikhail, of course, chose to remain silent.
He had two options right now.
Pursue this and incur even more damage or not pursue this and incur heavy humiliation along with losing an ally because Rebecca’s future husband wouldn’t want her now.
So the option was losing an ally or pissing off the imperial family.
“I concede.” And the choice was a no-brainer.
“Hahaha.” Another mockery-filled laughter resounded throughout the entire chamber.
Only this time, it wasn’t just for Duke Mikhail but for everyone as well.
With all the odds against me, I still won.
They were all worried.
I stood true to my words.
